Have a quick question about the pre-made Zen wicks.

They are quite soft and I actually find them easier to work with then a stiffer wick. I've watched his videos and I know he doesn't quench which makes them a lot stiffer. Yet I can't quite come up with a thicker wick that is this springy even from just torching and adding VG an then lighting on fire they seem to get a lot stiffer.

Is it just not possible with a larger diameter wick? Using 400x400 mesh. Torch no quench. VG soak and burn x3. I've always done them like that but I'm intrigued by the softer wicks. For me anyway, seems they are easier to work with. I can avoid the dreaded top coil pop because they don't press into the side of the tank and can be moved in close to the centre post. Insulator removed for thicker wick.

Zen~ has the Midas touch from what I have heard. Imagine all those wicks! JEEZ-US! It's similar to the touch of a musician-->I can play those exact same notes, but that touch is hard to learn without a ton of practice. I don't know, I am just rambling...

I was just thinking, I wish I had asked Zen to engrave Toby's name on my BAM. With the date of his passing 9/3/2012. Not like Bradsbrotherstu's BOOMSTICK engraving, just nice and small like ASH did on his ASH edition with his daughter's name. I would have loved a Toby memorial edition. He was my little black furball, and my BAM will be my little black vapeball. Don't know if he would have done it, considering how swamped and busy he always is, but it would have been neat...

Perhaps it is he midas touch lol. I find I can get one almost as soft with a thinner wick but ideally i'd like to be able to get somewhere close with a thicker wick. Logic is telling me it might not be possible due to more material used and a larger diameter centre hole.

I know all the pros are using the really thick wicks. Maybe it's just the nature of the beast and the thicker ones have to be more stiff.

Just found that my coil success rate with a thin wick and no insulator is pretty much perfect. Thick wick...meh, hit or miss.

She got it going, then while nudging, she poped the coil and had to rebuild....i think she is ok now

It's working more than not....I had to wrap a new coil after all. The top was loose and when I tried to address only the top coil, I broke it..LOL. It still takes an awfully long time to heat and it's hit and miss as far as firing.

I don't know what "method" Zen uses, but I personally use most of the Jack Frost method.

I cut a piece, and using needle nose pliers, turn it over an open flame on my gas stove.
For about 5 minutes.... turning and turning. Quite boring actually.

Then I roll it up around an allen wrench, unroll and make it tighter around a paper clip until it's the rights size for the unit I'm using it on.

Wrap my wire, turning the device instead of pulling the wire along (as in the BBQ clip posted here of Zen wrapping).

I don't quench, I don't douse in pg/vg and burn off.
My wicks are quite pliable, and if I take the time to nudge my wire around, I can vape without shorts/hotspots.

I suck at making wicks. Am going to pay Zen for some of his, lol. That was helpful, Unfettered Soul, but no gas stove. Will try with torch.

Yea maybe a really good cleaning on the threads and switch.. should take it apart and clean it.. how many coils?

I can deal with the hotspots. The problem that's always plagued me on units without insulators is the hotspot between the top coil and battery post. Even on a brief pulse fire I sometimes get an instant coil pop. I know it's something simple I just can't get my head around it no matter how much research I do. Was thinking with a more pliable wick I could avoid this random pop on new coils because I'm relatively sure it's a short through the tank hole. I can take the same wick I just popped three coils on throw it in an insulator and it magically works every time.

I'm still a relative newb to genesis coils. Any advice is appreciated.

What doe you mean line the wick? With cotton? With rolling paper?



Thicker wire = more electricity can flow through it making it a hotter vape. Think of a water hose. Thin hose wont let the water flow as good as a thicker hose. Same with wire except water=electricity. If you know what I mean. Physics professor taught me the best anology to compare electricity to water pressure .... Anything more from me on the subject would probably not be appropriate for this thread.
