disarstar - I have never heard of one getting confiscated (well except Zen's but that was a different reason). Many have recommended taking out the juice for the security line so it does not leak in the bin or in your carry on bag. You will want to have a very small "stealth" device though if you will need to vape on the transatlantic flight - I don't believe vaping is "allowed"

Depending on where the coil was broken, it's possible that you had a lead making it's way to the wick (which is SS) and maybe due to a short the MM test made it's way back onto the wire that was attached to the positive screw. Doesn't seem to make total sense cause the wick was oxidized but it's about the only thing I can fathom.

Even Zen himself has said that he wick is still conductive with proper oxidation. That is why he highly recommends the use of the insulator. I can see how the open ends of the coil could be shorting to the wick and giving a reading on the MM but not enough to fire the coil.

The Cobalt, Pchela and BAM are shipping with 3.5mm wicks and the insulator not installed for those that prefer thinner wicks. 3.5 lowers the resolution of the adjust-ability... an extra coil is a LOT more resistance as ooppsed to a minor change with a wider wick.

I knew I had read that dearme, so I had to go back and find it.

Thank you, kev. I missed that post, but I'm glad to hear that the Cobalt, Pchela, and BAM all have anodized wick holes.

If the Sidewinder is anodized also, I wonder if that means it also has an anodized wick............or was the SW a different process?
