I really want to incorporate a touch switch into my next mod. I have a few questions.

1) Is the 2-4M resistor the same as a 2.4Ohm resistor?
2) Also, I use a 4 pin 5v LDO regulator available at madvapes....is it possible to use the control pins on those to create a touch contact switch also?

Part: TO-220F-4L
Spec Sheet: http://www.fairchildsemi.com/ds/KA/KA378R05.pdf (PDF Link)

If the TO-220F-4L chip is capable of being used is a touch sensor setup....what parts/resistor values would be needed?

Big thanks to anyone who can answer this for me!

I have 4 IRL3103's getting delivered tomorrow and cant wait to wire em up just like this and hope they work good because i'm sick and tired of getting "it should" or "try this" or"it might work" bull..... responses to a simple circuit. If this works tomorrow I will video the entire process from unpacking a IRL3103 to firing the atty and vaping away. Not one second of construction will not be documented on video. Can't believe the LOSER who came up with the saber touch mod took his video down that would have helped everyone whos looking for a touch sensor mod.

look at this video.
i also use the electronic and dont have problems. i use a 18k resistor and a 2.2mohm resistor.
also it seems that bigger nails get better contact(for me)

you also might have to dry fingers, just lick little bit sometimes :p

Hello does your touch sensor use the IRL3103?

No, its a 2 to 4 Mega ohm resistor.
The resistor between the Gate and the source is a "pull down" resistor. Feel free to google it. In short, the pull down resistor ensure that when you turn the switch off, it goes off and stays off.
The resistance on a pull down isn't a specified value generally. I haven't seen the spec sheet on the mosfet, but in my experience resistors as low as 200K ohm will work fine. It will vary based on the mosfet though.

The 1K resistor between your finger and the battery is there for your safety. It reduces the current going through your hand, or face for some mods.
I personally feel that 1k is a bit small for a touch, but that's me.

Yes.

Meh. You should be able to figure this one out on your own. I'm going to be lazy.

Thanks for this Raidy! I have been looking for an easy to understand touch switch configuration for those of us learning (or re-learning) the electronics side of modding. Your posts have been great and given me a lot of information and new approaches. This one is a big help though. It will be great to not have a mechanical switch in my mods. So far, none of my mods have been brought back to me except when switches fail. I only use switches rated beyond what is needed, but even then, they fail because springs wear out or whatever. A touch switch should fair a lot better (I hope). I will have to make at least a couple of these before I let anyone take them so I will make at least one with a 2.2M and one with a 3 or 4M for the pull down and see which I like better.

Question though, have you made any touch sensors with the Darlington pair method?

Everyone knows the problem. They want to use small switches, but could not withstand the current. This little circuit for much the same as $ 2 solves the problem. It is so sensitive that even a not too dry enough fingers to turn the atty. Or any small switch. The current on the switch is now less then 1/1000 mA.

Is it possible to use the irfz48v , in stead of the irl3103 ?

Not for a 3.7V box. The problem with the irfz48v is that it requires at least 4 volts to guarentee a saturated MOSFET gate. Even if your running 2 batteries, if one of them fails, it will fry the mosfet. There's a reason why he posted this and stated a specific part #. Yes others should work do to specs, but this one does work. The problem is these things like to be on, or off. Anything else and it turns the MOSFET into a resistor, and POP.

Hi,

I'm looking for jensb, I want to know if he can show to us, the scheme of his touch circuit, I don't know if his circuit is the same as raidy, or a different one, cuz here in Mexico there's no place where I can find an IRL3103.

I wonder if this scheme could work for our 3.7v mods, even in our 5v+ mods.

This works with 2 IC4011. What do you think guys.

The circuit you show looks like one IC using 2 of the 4 NAND GATES. It has 14 pins. The Data sheet is here: DataSheet

Is it okay to use 1/4 watt resistors for this or should I be looking for something else? I never understood the watts part on resistors as it relates to our uses in ecigs (or anything else for that matter).

Hey Gummy,

I know you understand electronics, circuits, etc. Can you answer my question about those circuits some posts above, what do you think about it, tips and sugestions? please dude, I'll be grateful.

Cheers
Mojito

P.S.: Forgive my childish english, I'm mexican and never been in the US, I'm lerning english in a DVD curse, so you can figure it out.

I wouldn't put much stock in my limited understanding of electronics and your english is just fine (you should hear my Spanish). I cant advise you on this as I have never made one I just don't like a touch switch. You have to take your gloves off in the winter time to make it fire and even tho I'm in Fla at the moment, I have and do travel all over the world and it's damn cold out there sometimes.
Post your questions here so everyone can see I'm sure someone like WillyB or Raidy can answer it.

since there's no way to get some ic3103 here in MEX.
Mojito

if you can't just order one from the internet perhaps one of the good members here on the forum that has some can work out something to get you one.

But if you just want to use a small switch the diagram in post 38 will work just fine.
