I did because I was addicted to cigarettes . I found out about them on the net and I was going to buy one of those starter kits but I did not . I researched a bit more and found out that rebuildables are cheaper and better so I bough a rebuild-able together with a unregulated mod . I watched a few tutorials on youtube and my first build was pretty decent so I stuck to rebuildables . Funny thing is up to this day , I still dont have a ohm meter . My 18650s have always been 35A so I was never worried safety . I have never built a coil ( I use 24G ) with less than 4 wraps and never had any problems . Just a week ago I ordered a istick 50w which I am really exited about . I was going to buy the God 180W but it turned out that it can not be charged though USB which is a necessity for a VW/VV mods .

i would like to hear your stories

I also did because I was addicted to cigarettes. Funny thing though, I had zero interest in vapeing. A friend bought me a starter kit. I remember smoking watching the battries charge thinking, I'm going to hate this. That day I switched for good! It's been a long journey learning from there, but I never regretted it or have looked back. So glad someone pulled me into the best decision I ever made!
Just my opinion, do yourself a huge favor, pick up an ohm reader. It's an absolute must for anyone building their own coils. :)

I was way addicted to cigarettes and it was getting out of control. I was only 24 and I already was chainsmoking cigarettes in my room, 2 pack a day smoker. Got disgusting with a bunch of tar buildup on the walls when I had to clean out the room, and the smell that absorbed into all the furnature just made me sick. It was an expensive and unhealthy habit, as I woke up regularly coughing and hacking, I also still coughed throughout the days it always felt like something was in my throat. I forget exactly how I got into vaping, but I know I ended up joining a small vaping community forum and ending up buying a joyetech 510 cigalike kit. moved onto ego's a few months later then vaped that for 2 years or so. then eventually upgraded to vv/vw/rda's towards the end of last year.

It honestly just got to the point where death was staring me in the face, and it started effecting how people looked at me because I was basically smoking whenever I wasn't sleeping.

I was a 20+ year p.a.d. smoker, tried my neighbors ego and thought it was decent. My wife came home with a set up for herself, went and grabbed my own a week later. She doesn't vape or smoke anymore, I vape like a mad man! Started with 2 vision spinner II's and a few kanger t3s tanks, few weeks later I got an iStick and a nautilus mini. Last month I got 2 mechs and 2 rda's. This month I got a sigelei 100W+. I started mid September 2014 and had my last smoke 5 days later. I love vaping.

To get off cigarettes. It was started to become an issue. I ran out one afternoon. After an hour or so I started to get withdrawals so I started cruising to see anyone on a street corner. I finally saw a little old lady that was pushing a little shopping cart smoking. I drove down street and pulled in a dark spot. The street was pretty empty at that time, so it seemed my best opportunity. Not that it was that cold, but I had ski mask beanie and, at the right moment, I jumped out and smacked her in the face. When she hit the ground, I search her pockets and found a full pack.

I realized that I needed hep and the next day I went a vape shop and bought two complete system, so that I would have spare. Never smoked another since.

My signature quote says it all. Nice to hear other's stories.

I'm surprised no now has mentioned this, and I'm not trying to get on your case but... You're lucky you haven't had anything happen with no ohm meter, and estimating your builds. First, there is no such thing as a true 35A continuous discharge battery. Second, you have no idea whether you could have a short or not. Third, you're using thick gauge wire with very few wraps (with an unspecified coil ID) meaning that your resistance is likely very low. Very dangerous. I'm happy you're fine, but please be careful. Nothing has happened, yet.

I woke up one morning and asked myself, 'what are you doing? You're in high school and you smoke cigarettes.' Had my mom take me to a vape shop New Years Day two years and 3 months ago, picked up an ego and never looked back. Made my way through various CE4 style atomizers unhappy, and switched over to cigalikes. Then went to a vape shop and got ripped off for a cheap Chi You clone and ohm reader and started down the path of rebuilding. Now, I'm as happy as I could be with an iStick 50W and a Magma at 0.6Ω.

You will enjoy your iStick 50W and it will be much safer than what you're doing now.

Advise - buy a lottery. You are very very lucky.
Another advise - buy a multi meter on the way home.

I smoked an average of 4 packs a week, so saving money didn't seem all that important to me. My PAD neighbor was in his third or fourth vaping month, and my interest was sparked. The money I would've spent on cigs and everything related minus the money I've spent on vaping the past six months equals at least $500.00, so the saving thing is important to me now. I'm pretty positive that vaping is healthier than not as unhealthy as smoking, so that's a bonus too!

I do not see how its funny to not own an ohm meter. I have four. They can be had for relatively cheap. I mean, IMHO no matter what you wrap you should meter it, sub ohm or 3.0 ohm. I don't even consult my boxes cause I have more faith in my meters, they all line up with steam engine (how I make sure my meters are essentially accurate.) I REALLY am not trying to be a jerk man, I believe its 100% essential to own at least one meter if you wind your own coils, I have to voice that no matter how I come across.

I began vapeing on a fateful day almost four years ago (on the 25th of May its four years) after my then girlfriend quit smoking instantly via cigalikes. I also stopped right away and as my girlfriend progressed more and more into vapeing I just stayed with the crap until I got a SB from my wife for my birthday almost two years ago and from there the rest is history. Provape 1, ProVari then DNA 30, 40 and a SLEW of Sig, IPV and other boxes. Started building many moons ago and hadn't used a pre made coil till the Atlantis. Liquidated all my lowerish end gear+sub ohm clearos and started playing with mechs. Now I simply now what I want and own multiples. I run two Flasks and a Hana DNA40 as well as SMPL, Praxis, Four9 and Stingray X mech mods. I use a Kayfun 4 and a Hana as my primary mod when I leave the house and always drip with a mech at home. I just started to DIY, I have a variety and large amount of quality batteries-new and in use, my nic stash is large enough to last five years and I have a few of my favourite mods and drippers stashed away waiting to be broken out in an emergency. Thats my story, vape life has ALWAYS been good to me and I have met some amazing people and learned a lot. I have a ton of fun putting in hours at the shop as well. I love vapeing.

LOLOLOL maybe I am lucky , I dont understand how a short can occur though ? I am proficient at building after 1 year . The only thing that i had happen was when my 510 pin broke , basically i got a new kayfun , and it wasnt tight enough , i made it really tight , but it wasnt working , i took it apart to find out it broke . Well the istick 50w is gonna have a built in resistance meter so we will see .

Currently i have a 5 wrap 24gauge on my kayfun and no problems and my orchids have 2 of these coils each .

Also i always wrap the coil 2 times around the screw then after i cut it , i push it towards the screw if there is any exess wire that cant be cut .

i never use fully charged batteries on the orchids though cuz the vapor is as hot as the vapor coming out of boiling water , thats why I bought the istick so i can lower the wattage but 5 wraps is ideal for them because its really easy to wick them that way

After smoking for almost 20 years and quitting every day for 20 years, my friend gave me his VVT and Kanger tank for a week.

At first i thought he was a fool for squandering money just to try every brand of juice and flavor. After a month of vaping same juice, I got hooked and I too started spending money on various juice brands and flavors. Shortly after i bought my own vaping hardware.

If anyone wishes to quit smoking and start vaping to healthier life, this is the best imho time then ever. There is a lot of great vaping hardware that will accommodate anyone regardless of experience or technical knowledge.

My partner came home from Vegas with a starter kit she won while attending a conference. It sat on my desk for a week.

One day I read the instruction manual, (thin and inscrutable) charged it up and pushed the button. Nothing. It had two plastic needle tip bottles in the box. They looked empty. I thought perhaps, that they were filled with some type of gas. I squeezed one into the tank. Tried it again. still nothing. The light was pretty.

A few days latter I started Googling around, found ECF. Ejuice. Everyone was talking about it. Went to the local tobacco shop and bought a pack of American Spirits and a bottle of Triple 7 classic. It smelled like bacon cooked over a burning tire. Loaded up a tank, took a couple of MTL hits of singed silica, thought, this could work for me. A few minutes later, after the wicks had saturated, I tried it again, in the bathroom with the light off. The blue light in the tip shining through the vapor reminded me of a Pink Floyd concert. It took me 15 days to smoke that last pack of cigarettes. I haven't had one since.

I never go in to the bathroom with lights off after watching a movie "The Thing".

Even though I'd used the gas station cigalikes off and on for a few years, I didn't even know what Vaping was until I stumbled across a YouTube video about a month before I started vaping.

For about the last ten years that I smoked I hated it. I tried almost everything - Zyban, Chantix, gum, patches, inhalers, lozenges, and disposable e-cigs. Until I started vaping, I had no long-term success with quitting. The longest I made it was two months.

I saw the video, that led me to this forum, and I bought my first setup and e-liquid, and haven't looked back since!

I smoked for 42 years. I got to the place where my lungs wheezed when I breathed, and I knew I had to quit or it was going to kill me. I quit cold turkey once in the '80s, and what I didn't realize at the time was that I came down with a debilitating case of the flu at the same time I was kicking the habit. I've never been so sick before or since. I thought the week in bed, immobilized, was part of the withdrawals. It was a terrible experience. Then, as so many smokers do, I relapsed, in less than a month. I never tried to quit again because I was terrified of getting that sick again.

Fast forward to where I began to feel my mortality, and I'm not ready to die. I began to read about vaping, and thought that since it isn't inhaling burning poison, but it is a nicotine delivery system, I might give it a try. Maybe it would help me cut down or even quit. I had no idea what to expect. So I did a bunch of research and ordered a vaporizer. I quit smoking on the first day of using it. I am amazed at how non-traumatic it was. I experienced almost no withdrawal symptoms and didn't get sick. I'm completely over my addiction to smoking and nicotine now, and have stopped vaping, too. I stopped inhaling the vapor into my lungs, and just take some into my mouth and blow it out again, because I like the flavor of the liquid. I've gone several days in a row without doing even that, with no ill effects, so I'm just using up the liquid I have left for the nice taste, and then I'm done for good.

My Students in Japan complained that I smelled. I figured I needed to quit smoking due to that.
plus i would wake up weezing and whenever I got sick, it took months for the cough to go away. And sometimes I would be lying in bed and forget I had a cigarette in my hand and ash all over myself. plus I worried about my pet snakes inhaling all that bad stuff. and one of my schools didnt like me smoking during working hours, because i needed to go a little far away. So I decided it was time to give vaping a try. I did. I was on my last pack when I got my vaping gear. Had 15 left. And went from PAD to 5 to 3 to 2 to 1 to 0 in that many days (still had 4 left). Since then I have not had a full cigarette. I had a few puffs here and there, but never liked it. never enjoyed it. always stopped after a few puffs.
