I loved reading this, I'm sure it happens a lot, I know it happened to me but on a smaller scale, it can be very overwhelming at first that's for sure. Old school vapers had the learning curve where as these days with the new tech, it's very different..kind of jumping in head first.

Yes, I wish I could have gone to a local vape shop but I don't have transportation so I'm lucky I found helpful videos! :D

Been vaping since December 2014. With no guidance at first, and not even considering knowledgeable forums like this existed, I started with a cigalike that was given to me (unused). I figured out how to pull off the end cap and resoak the cotton. That pretty much sucked, but it didn't discourage me. I looked online, and the first site I saw was Totally Wicked. I bought a Tornado 3 starter kit, and I was very happy with it. Then I bought a cheap ego set up from another site. I managed to quit smoking the stinkies with those rigs. After I ditched the coffin nails, I felt I needed an upgrade, and now I have an iStick 30w and a Nautilus tank. Of course I want to upgrade again some time. For now, I have ordered a MELO tank. I have a Vicious Ant Phenom staring me in the face right now that is brand new in the box. I won it in a raffle. Not sure if I want to get into mech mods ( I do, lol, but don't tell my wife. Vaping was gonna save me a TON of money :) ) . So I guess if I decide to use the Phenom, I will need good batteries and a charger, a good RBA, and rebuilding supplies. Other than that, I am happy with the iStick, tank combos for now. The juice journey is a whole different adventure, but I'm sure yours is a similar story. I am still pretty green with that, but am seriously considering DIY.

I started sometime in April of 2012...

Bought an eGo starter kit with CE4 style clearomizers. It was cool til I figured out that every time I burnt up a clearomizer I was going to need to buy another one... LoL

I joined ECF in December of 2012, and learned that there was a whole big huge world of vaping outside what was being sold at mall kiosks! Through here I found out about the plethora of online vendors, and bought myself a kGo-V variable voltage eGo styled pen with CE4 clearos that had replaceable heads. What a concept!

Needing more vape time from a charge, I graduated to a Lavatube V2 from Volcano Ecigs. Pretty nice device at the time... It was a VV device that operated from 3-6V. I was using it with a carto tank and Smok cartomizers. Quickly switched to Boge cartomizers.

Soon afterwards the Vamo (Rev 1) came out, one of the first reasonable priced VW devices. I loved the idea of VW. Still sticking with Cartos at this point, and amassed a nifty collection of tanks and drip tips.

Around Jan 2013 I got my first Provari used from the classies here on ECF. That thing rocked my vaping world... I loved it... Also started to do DIY, and making a few videos here and there. Started to toy around with Genesis RBA's and various other rebuildables (Odysseus) and dripping atomizers like the HH.357 (RDA's weren't real popular back then)

My next adventure was my first mechanical, what was called a Chi-Chi (A Chinese knock off of the original GG) and my first RDA, which was a Phoenix. That thing was decent, but I was using silica wick... We were just starting to experiment with cotton wicks back then.

The I got a Poldiac... What a flipping nice mech! I pretty much used the Poldiac with Genesis atomizers til I stopped vaping around the June or July time frame of 2013. I had weened myself from nicotine and decided I didn't need to vape anymore. So I stopped. And like a big dummy I sold off all my gear...

It was probably around November'ish of 2013 I had a stressful time at work, and decided I was either going to start vaping or smoking again. I chose vaping. Went to the Volcano store and got another Lavatube, this time a 15W VW device. Got myself another Mechanical, a Smok Magneto, an IGO-W, and an RSST. Soon after I got myself another Provari, and then a Provari Mini a couple weeks later... LoL - Went through a boat load of new tank systems like the Protank series, and eventually landed with the Nautilus, and then a Nautilus mini. Things really started to settle in when I got a Kayfun Lite+, and I used that with my Provari's for a long while...

A couple of months back I decided I was tired of trying to suck my eyeballs out of my head to get a good vape and wanted to try a new style dripper. So I took my Magneto to a local shop and got a Doge V2 atomizer to try out, along with some LG HE4 batteries. WOAH what a change... LoL HUGE clouds! But I wasn't too thrilled about the Doge and it's monster drip tip. It was more akin to sticking a robot love muscle in my mouth every time I took a vape. HAHA!

So I got myself another high end mech (Stingray X) and started experimenting with new atomizers... Tried the dark horse, and eventually settled with a Marquis. That gave me nice amounts of vapor and flavor, and was really happy with that set up. The Provari's were getting little use at this point, but I missed the ability to tailor my vape with buttons rather than coil builds.

Sooo... I went looking for a high power box mod. I was thinking maybe a DNA40, but that didn't have enough power to make my new found low resistance dual coil builds shine. Lucky for me, that was around the time I noticed a couple of new mods on the way... The IPV4, and the SXmini M Class.

I ended up getting the SXmini M Class because temperature control intrigued me... And once again, my vaping world has been rocked!

I'm now using the SXmini M Class with a Subtank Mini, Marquis, and Pyrex RSST, all with Temp Control builds, and it's FAN-FRIGGIN-TASTIC.

Wow, that was a lot of stuff... I'm afraid to scroll up to see how long this is, so I'm just gonna post it... LoL

So much has changed since 2012! Vaping is SO much better now than it was then!

August 2011; my brother started my out with Joyetech 510s and those little cartridges;
In 2012, went to Vision Spinners and ViVi Nova's;
then I went through the VAMOs (got a V5 as a backup);
and I recently made the switch to mech mods (the Poldiac is my favorite) with Fogger V6, and Orchid, and the Goblin V2.

I almost can't wait to see what comes next...

A fellow member on a renewable energy forum posted about his positive experience with his cigalike and I ran to wally world and bought every kind they had. May 2013.They lasted a day and a half. In searching for better prices, found ECF. Oh God, THANK YOU, people. Joined up, posted in the newbies and Baditude showed me the light! Joye ego's and TC3's. Quickly away from those to EVOD's. Great clearomizers.
Needed a longer draw time and not wanting to waste money on stuff that don't last, bought a Provari 2.5. Started rebuilding EVOD coils, DIY juice, and shinyitis hit. Protanks, kayfuns, Super T Workhorse, Istick 20, 30 and now am currently using a Vapor Shark rDNA 40 with a Lemo.
Vape heaven!

I went for the fast track progression. Started 8/1/14 with Ego twist/Kanger pro 2 mini by August 20th i was on a Vamo 5/ Kanger Hyper tank and by September 15th i was sporting 30W Segelei. 70W IPV2S, and 100W Arrow box mods w/Kayfun 4's, Orchid 4"s, Taifun GT, Krackan & M16 and Stingray Mechanical Mods w/Vulcan. Mutation X V3, and Mephisto RDA's.

I went from a no nothing vaper to doing constant research on these forums to become a total DIY"er doing my own wire and wick as well as e juice. Guess you could say i've come full circle in 9 months with much more to learn and apply.

My first setup was an MVP2 and a Nautilus with the bdc coils...I almost killed myself. Went thru most of the clearos, than the RTAs then the RDA's and more advanced mech and vvvw mods. Now mostly RDA's and mechs and 1 or 2 RTAs in the rotation along with diy and some favorite jooses. It's been a great ride and coming up on my one year vaperversery.

My first kit was a 1000 mAh Joyetech pass-through battery, a disposable CE4, and one bottle of Halo tobacco juice at 2.4 mg. I didn't quite grasp the idea of coils going bad, and when my first tank started tasting like crap, I panicked and went to my mentor. He hooked me up with a Joyetech 510 lo-res dripping atomizer, and I dripped for 5 months. Then I almost caused a car accident and it b-slapped me into a new delivery device. Back then they were carto tanks and Vision Vivi Novas. I ended up swearing by carto tanks and absolutely LOATHING anything top wick. The Kanger MT3 came out and poop got real. Silica. Cotton. Rebuilding. Then came the Evod and the T3S. Busardo suggesting removing flavor wicks. The iClear series. Stuff was going nuts. Then Aspire showed up with BDC coils. Then BVC coils (essentially mini cartos). Batting material changed from silica and polyfill to organic cotton (Kanger subtanks), and ceramic paper (Alantis). Things have changed at a break-neck pace and they will keep doing so.

Buckle in for the ride.

I bought a cheap gas station thing that looked like a cigarette two years ago. Threw it away and kept smoking.

A year ago, I went into a decent vape shop, where a patient and knowledgeable fellow answered all my questions and earned my slightly overpriced purchase of a SMOK SID, some clearo's, battery and charger. After a month, it landed in a drawer for a year. Kept smoking.

Health matters convinced me to dig it out this year and I'm smoke free since 1/31.

Since then, I've acquired my first RTA and some DIY juice supplies. I've also gotten "backups for my backups" as we say here...

    When I first started vaping (2011) the FDA was involved in a law suit, customs was seizing shipments, and the end of vaping was looming over our heads. (sound familiar) So I figured it was in my best interest to become "self reliant". That meant at least learning how to make my own mods & atomizers, and mixing my own liquids. So my advancement from that first little eGo starter kit to mech mods & RDAs. and DIY liquids happened fairly quickly.

    The unexpected side effect of that was that I found that after a little up front expense, I could vape literately for free, and that has allowed me the ability to buy just about any vape gear I would like to play with.

    add;
    The unfortunate side effect of what I learned is that making a fully functional mod & atomizer is so simple that just about any grade school kid could do it.

    Began my vaping journey three years ago, walk to the only store in town at that time VaporShark, since then there are countless
    others, bought an vivnova and a ego 900 batt, a week into it, i saw a video on youtube on how to rebuild the tiny little heads, and
    so it began my rebuildable madness, from vivnovas i saw Psuardo's videos on different tanks, Genesis and Odysseus, got those, then
    moved from silica to mesh, AGA T's, Hybrids, then got my first RDA dripper IGO L, started dripping and it was so much better flavor
    it was unreal, bought tons of mech mods, box mods, bought the first VV/VW mod, then the first DNA mod, had the first HANA DNA20
    mod, found out about REO mods and now i drip at home and use my REO's for work and going around town......

    June 21st 2013: "I quit!"
    June 27th 2013: "Yay my new vape smoke thing came! eVix is neat! and iTaste VV v3! Whats a cartomizer? Plastic tank? OMG that stuff tastes like hate! (cheap relabeled 36mg chinese juice) But this one is ok... at least I get my nic and no longer want to kill everything."

    Last week: "Oh noes! Washington state hates vapers! Felony for shipping in vape stuff? Why did I move here? Quick, NudeNicotine, I need a liter of 100mg VG Base!"

    These days: "Hmm... been dripping a long time, lets see whats new. That Goliath Tank looks like it has potential. Wonder if it'll match one of my mechs? Maybe I'll put it on the Sigelei 100watt v2. Yep. Needs a different juice though, something brighter to go with smaller coils and I gotta bump up the nic a bit... off to the DIY lab!"

    I knew I would like vaping as I tried one of the first generation Blu E-ciggs back in '09? '10? Anyways, I kept smoking pipes, and cigars up until February this year (2015), and I went into a local vape shop and gave the guy a $100 budget to get me the best starter setup he could. I ended up getting a Nautilus Mini, and an iStick 20w with a couple juices. ALL of which I still use to this day. My daily setup is an iStick 50w with an Aspire Nautilus... I use the iStick for the stamina, and the Nautilus for the capacity. I occasionally use my Atlantis, but since getting the Kanger SubTank Plus, that has been living on my M80-Plus.

    Since that, I've gotten into rebuildables (MutationX v3), Sub-Ohm Tanks, 2 shoe boxes of premium juice, and quite the collection of tiny blue screwdrivers.
