I mix unflavored juice by weight using 100ml bottles on an electronic scale. I add the nic first, then PG and VG, then I use a battery powered frother to homogenize the mix in the bottle.

I seldom mix flavors, but when I do I just pour up a 30ml bottle out of my PG, VG, Nic base stock and add the flavors followed by the use of a frother to ensure that the flavor mix is uniform. I vape unflavored most of the time, but when I want flavor I just add the flavor to a small bottle of premixed nic base.

I have a collection of beakers and syringes that I never use and a set of graduated glass cylinders and only use the 10 ml size for flavoring. My kitchen scale is more than accurate enough for the other ingredients in 1 liter batches. Mixing directly into the storage bottle saves cleanup time. Finally I use an all in one flavoring. Put together mixing is may be 90 minutes a year at most. My cost of ingredients is about 1 cent per ml, probably less than $30 a year. I'm amazed that so few vapers seem to be mixing.

I use a 10ml cylinder for flavorings. I do use 1ml syringes if I'm making small bottles like for new recipes. But the cylinder is accurate enough for 100ml mixes.

To me, at least for those who say they measure by weight with scales....that method above doesn't support the claim that "measuring by weight is more accurate than by volume." ;)

Many flavorings are in a PG base, some are in VG, some in ethyl alcohol. Also, every recipe doesn't call for the same total amount of flavoring. So, how "accurate" can the resulting eliquid actually be, doing it that way?

I started out worrying about accuracy. Not any more. I make 7mg base in large quantities and add flavoring to it. So the final juice is something like 6mg depending how much flavoring I have in that recipe. And the VG/PG ratio is approx 70/30 depending on what the flavoring comes in. The flavorings are kind of approximate too since I measure them in a 10ml graduated cylinder which is accurate to maybe 1/4 ml.

My theory is that my tasting skills are kind of approximate too, so I wouldn't be able to tell any difference between what I mix and another bottle that was mixed with total accuracy.

Oh, I've always been in favor of whatever works best for each individual when doing DIY. Doesn't matter to me whether someone mixes by volume or by weight, or...by another method altogether. We can all still end up with DIY that we like.

I was just questioning how using a pre-mixed base, with flavoring(s) added later as the base is used to make eliquid batches...could meet the longstanding "by weight is more accurate than by volume" claim, that many state. If the people using a pre-mixed base are happy mixing that way...it's all good, IMO. :)

I make my unflavored base mixing by volume (120 ml bottle with a spout top) Marked lines on it with a sharpie pen (every 10 ml... total 100 ml... leaves room to shake it) I have other marks for the nic that I put in first. I often use unflavored for different purposes so like to keep it handy. For the flavors I use a scale (finally got one and love it) then add the base. Then I...

I was wondering if you folk mix any differently to how I do it and if so why?
I make my mixes all in one go i.e add nicotine, then flavour concentrate, then PG and then VG. Once done, give it a good shake and then steep.
I've heard that others pre mix the PG, VG and Nic then store until your ready to add flavour at a later date.
How do you do it?
Imix up my base about 600ml at a time. saves a good bit of time. I use 250mg pg base salts, dw 8%, vg. My only pg comes from nic & flavors. Mixing by weight only.

Thanks. I have come across those sub forums and wasnt sure where I should put it.
I mix by weight only now, have done for quite a while now. I've never pre mixed but read that some people do. Wondered if there was any advantage or benefit of doing it that way.

It probably helps save time.

I do pretty much what everyone who already posted does. Always have premixed nic, vg, pg ready. Pour what I need into bottles and add flavors as needed per recipes. I also vape flavorless. Use a scale.

I don't shake manually. That is a royal PIA. Found the Badger 121 Mixer works best for me. One to two minutes w/the mixer, cap it and let it sit. The Badger mixer can be had for ~10USD, shop around. There are other decent mixer's out there that will do the same.

Will the Badger fit into the glass 60 and 30 mil bottles that come with a dropper top?

I got a miniature paint mixer. Works for 15 and 30ml bottles. Sometimes you have to tilt it slightly to get it into a 15ml, and it's not long enough to reach the bottom with anything bigger than 30. I'm planning to get a larger one for 60 and 125ml bottles, I have to shake those now.

I've not premixed before, just didnt enter doing it that way in my head. I'm guessing the main steeping process is done with the premix so can be vaped quicker once the flavour is added.
Once you add flavors it may still need steeping depending on flavors used. Some flavors require a good long steep while others don't. I do have some recipes that get vaped right after mixing (SnV). All depends.

Pre-mixed nic, vg, and pg base can be vaped right away if you like flavorless. I always have a few 100ml's ready to go. Having base pre mixed makes mixing up flavored recipes quicker.

Don't recall if anyone previously posted this and you may already know this.... always shake your juices before vaping. There are flavors that can/do settle and/or separate. A good quick shake will bring everything back together. :D

If VG is the last ingredient you add when making DIY...you'll never get a cloudy eliquid. Some people think something's wrong with it...when one turns out cloudy. It's actually just a reaction caused by some flavoring(s) and the VG. Citrusy ones will cause it especially, but there are some others, too. Add VG last, and it won't happen. That's another tip of Bill's.
Thanks @JCinFLA, that's handy to know, I didnt realise that.

Oh, Richard. You don't want to know how I mix my eliquids. I'm the world's worst mixer and I don't use recipes; well, I'm more like @sofarsogood and @Jebbn when it comes to mixing. I started my DIY with Bill's famous 100 drop method, where each drop represents 1% of the mix. So I would have tiny bottles filled with 95 drops of my base, then added my "recipes": 3 drops FA cucumber, 1 drop FA black pepper (that was only 4%, so I would add another drop of base).

Nothing much has changed. I rarely exceed 3% flavoring, 2 or 3 flavors, 4 when I feel reckless. I like my 2% FA black tea (FA) with any combination of 1% Fresh cream or 0.5% Vienna/0.5% Fresh Cream; or 3% Green (or White) tea with 1% something sweet like Pear or a touch of honey, and so on. I even use single flavors I like, e.g., FA Custard (again, I may add 1% of Lemon, or Lime, or Forest Fruit, or whatever I feel like). So I use the same base flavors (mostly teas and FA custard) and just create variations on the theme, if you will.

I shake and vape. The rest sits and does its thing. Sometimes it gets better, sometimes just different--I hardly notice at those percentages. :D
Nice variations of mixing @Katya. I normally mix single flavours but have dabbled in some multi mixes.
Think I will have to experiment a bit more with multi flavours, sounds like it could be fun.
