How Does Zero Nicotine Affect "Flavor"?

I'm a pipe/cigar smoker. I never liked cigarettes because the buzz is too intense.

I only vape 0 nicotine juices.

I hear a lot of people talking about the "flavor" of various juices, but I cannot help but wonder how much of that has to do with throat hit and nicotine satisfaction. In other words, if you have a tobacco flavor that you "love" and tastes just like a cigarette, would you still like the FLAVOR even if there was no nicotine?

I'm vaping now to cut down on my tobacco consumption, and so far it's working-- it satisfies the hand-to-mouth aspect and the sensation of spewing clouds of "smoke" in front of my face. The nicotine is not a factor for me. It's more about the habit. The tobacco flavors I've tried so far are ok, some better than others, but nothing has quite 'hit the spot' so to speak. I've tried a few NETs as well as some lab-made tobacco flavors from V2.

I've had nicotine from three different sources and unflavored nicotine tastes terrible, like the poison it is frankly, sort of like an extract of an ashtray filled with already smoked butts. I doubt nicotine enhances anything but buzz, which is possible if you get a device to wick fast enough without burning.

In the same boat as you, Calam. I work as a tobacconist, so I can't get away from cigars and pipes (have to know my product, but I'll never touch a cigarette. Bleh) But I would like something to enjoy at home that ISN'T tobacco related, so, vape.

From what I've found, hit up Vapenstein's blends, particularly "London" and I think another is called "Louisville". Re views are good, so I'm going to pick some up very soon myself. They have 0 nic options available, and they're supposed to be VERY close to pipe tobacco in taste.

4 days after you start vaping 0 nicotine it is completely out of your system. 2 weeks after that you are no longer dependent on nicotine. 22 days at 0 now. with no throat hit flavor is all you have. it is weird first couple of weeks minus the drug reward. up side?- if I forget to bring my PV?, no big deal.

I tried to go down to zero nic but it was too flat.
The flavor was there but I didn't get the feeling like I was "smoking" anything.
Just like breathing tasty air.
On the flip side, my young partner only gets 36mg of nic in his juices and I might as well suck on a pepper shaker with all that.
I've been hovering around 9-13 mg of nic now.
Currently mixed/dilluted two strengths to get to 13 and it looks like that's the high point for me.
11 and 12 is where i'll stay.
9mg might be cool enough but the 9mg I got was my first menthol juice so the experiment needs to be run on a non-menthol to be sure.

I'm down to 2 mg form 36 mg and during the week vape flavorless. On Fri. and Sat. nights I vape flavored juice and my experience has been it's smoother and more flavorful. Higher nic juice seems more harsh as sometimes I switch over to 8 mg. Thinking back Gawd knows how did I ever vape 36 mg without getting the twirlies.

OP,
I'm not sure what device you are currently using but I would suggest you try a Dream tank BT804/ Kayfun pretender.
The device delivers a great hit and the flavor is very intense and clean. I had to drop to 0.6% from 1.2% because the nicotine hit this thing gives makes my head spin.
Point being, even with low/no nicotine juice, the experience is still super satisfying. Plumes of vapor, bright clean flavor and a 0 nic throat hit that will make you cough.
Overall very happy with the device (can ya tell) and even happier with the painless reduction of nicotine content.

I am finding most Zeros to be light in color and missing the pepper/burning sensation.
Some juices seem to NEED that nic to make them sparkle.
Maybe I am just used to the flavor of "my" juice with nic because when I vape the zero version I actually notice the difference.
I experience something missing or the flavor being incomplete for the first ml or so but after that, I really have a hard time telling the difference without looking at the color of the liquid.

I was only a cigarette smoker. Use Janty RY4X, Joye TOB, Hangsen RY4. 0-1.2%

Good luck
Have fun

I've tried London Blend. I will say it DEFINITELY tastes like a pipe tobacco, but it's so heavy on the Latakia it's hard to enjoy. I let it steep for a few months, and that mellowed it out quite a bit, but since the liquid is so thick it tends to ruin my cartridges really fast. I basically just condom-fill empty Sahara V2 cartridges with it (have a ton of them) and for the first 20 puffs, tastes JUST like a pipe. Then it starts to taste weird as it gunks up the coil.

I'd like to find a lab-made tobacco flavor that is at least decent...

Nic actually changes the pH of a liquid slightly, making it more alkaline (opposite of acid). When it contacts your mucous membranes it interacts with the slightly acidic pH of your saliva and mucous generating the tingly sensation ie Throat Hit.

Adding some PG to 0 nic and decreasing airflow will still give a decent Throat Hit without the chemical reaction caused by the nic in the first place. If you have an RBA, try adjusting the air hole to be a tiny bit off center of your wick. You'll see what I mean.

As far as flavor goes, to me it's the same on 0 as it is on 12. Above 12 the nic starts to change things a bit, sometimes good, sometimes bad. The fruity flavors seem to go better with lower nic, and the tobacco flavors seem to go better with higher nic or increased TH changes to the device. Fruity flavors tend to give a fairly strong TH on their own.

I love, I mean absolutely ADORE latakia. I've smoked it straight and enjoyed it. I'm definitely trying the London now, haha. Just have to worry about the gunking of my cartos... can I cut it with anything to reduce that risk?

Nicotine adds a sort of pepper flavor. People say that it's the "main" source for TH. I don't know about that, really. I started with 24 mg. back in 2011. I'm now vaping 3.5mg. Practically no nic at all. I get TONS of throat hit, but then...my juice is mostly PG and I do vape menthol with koolada added. I don't miss the nic at all. Whatever flavor it imparted didn't enhance my vape flavor, really. It was something I vaped because for awhile I thought I "had" to have nic. Found out difference, eventually.
