How I clean my cartos (vid)

* Turkey injector? It’s a new toy, heh. Actually, the place where the needle would attach if I hadn’t removed it is the same diameter as a carto, so you can just use a carto condom (top trimmed off so it’s just a tube) to seal the carto on. However, that does result in cartos shooting around the place from time to time. I’m sure some of you handy types can come up with a much better nozzle idea than my pen-grip.
* Oven-drying? Been testing for over a week. I do them 15 mins at a time, if they’re well blown out, 15 mins is enough, I haven’t had to go longer than 30.
* Don’t have a turkey injector or a syringe? You can still soak the cartos in boiling water, then run them under a very hot tap for a bit, & blow them out/dry & refill. If they’re not that gunked up, you can skip the boiling water.
* Really gunky cartos but you don’t wanna deal with boiling water? You can get the same results from soaking/circulating with everclear, vodka, or another clear/tasteless/drinkable alcohol. Dry in the oven at your own risk… haven’t tried that one yet, myself. They air dry relatively quickly, though, since alcohol evaporates so fast.

kid, you can run them under a hot tap, it's just not quite as thorough.

Lol I cant even find a pencil grip anymore. I used to have a place by my house that sold them. But the place closed down a while ago.

the ones i have work *awesome*--they're a bit stiffer than the silicon version (actually, they're from some pens on clearance i got that kept breaking, lol) cause the carto-end is a bit narrow. so the cartos don't... become bullets when discharging the water, lmao. i cut a 'band' from a carto-condom to tighten the grip onto the syringe, if you need to tighten it up, i'm sure any rubber band/decent water proof tape would work. i'm equally sure that there are like, actual tubes/etc that would work as well as a pencil grip. but i'm a writer, not a plumber, and used the tools at hand, lol.

garble--i bake them 15 mins at a time. if they're blown out well, 15 mins is plenty, i've never had to do them over 30. i think it's really, really effective at getting -all- the moisture out, not leaving some in the well at the battery end.

kid, cvs & staples have pencil grips, or get a pen/mechanical pencil with a built in grip of the right size & break the pen/pencil and take it off.

Great vid Belle, thanks! One thing to add for those with a syringe instead of the turkey baster: Maxx had shown in his "Incredible Condom" thread that a cut condom works great as an adapter between the cart and syringe. For those who don't want to track down a pen grip, they can simply twist the cut condom (a simple rubber tube after cutting off the closed end) onto the end of a syringe, slide over the open cart end, and use in your procedure as well.

BTW, I think the wife cleaning carts with good dishes is much easier to accomplish than the husband; I was told to keep that junk out of her kitchen

jamvector--that's what i started with! the only issue there is that the carts *are* likely to shoot across the room/into the uck-water-depository, lol. you just have to hang on to them when emptying, but i am clutzy enough as is.

Good call, I was hanging on to them pretty well when I used the cut condom. I did however blow one out of my hand with the air compressor! Had to reclean it after it rolled across the garage floor

Right you are; the stickies have multiplied again back to the way they were in Feb! Sawlight did a great job, but the welcome mat could certainly be updated.

i might submit it to the contest if i clean it up some, add sound. or if i think it has a chance at contending, lol. but it's really a very novice effort, i just had a lot of people at the blog inquiring about my methods, and a vid is such a simpler way than starting with "first you get a turkey injector" and writing it out.
