How long did it take you to get used to not having a cigarette?

For me... it was a few hours. I tried a cigarette around 3 or 4 hrs after I started with my DSE 901... it was SOO gross!! I also had been diagnosed with pleurisy in May and have had incredible pain when I inhale and even MORE pain when I exhaled. (and yes I STILL couldn't just stop smoking) I got my PV and there was no more pain... at least not when I was actually using it. I still get some pain when I lay down but I figure that'll go away in time Doc said that pleurisy takes a while to clear up. So extreme pain when I smoked an analog... no pain when I vape. Didn't take me long at all.... but then pain is a great motivator.

i'm on my first day of no cigs (been vaping for awhile). ever since i started vaping i haven't had much of an urge to smoke unless i'm drinking though. today has been no big deal for me. the only time i really wanted one was the drive in to work this morning but that passed rather quickly. i also want to quit this time which is helping. every other time i "quit" i didn't really want to.

honestly, i think quitting drinking is going to be harder. i was having anywhere from 6-18 beers a night, every night. i'm on day two now of no drinking and it kind of sucks.

without smoking and drinking i don't know what to do. :lol:

To be honest it took me a couple weeks. If you have some different ejuice flavors this will make your transition to ecigs much smoother.

I got rid of all my tobacco flavors for that reason. Vaping tobacco flavor juice will only make it harder for me to transition to fully quit status.

How 'bout cost. Don't know what cigs are going for in Medford, but I remember OR being pretty cheap - like $45/carton. Assuming you're a pack a day smoker that's ~$1650 per year ($4.5x365). That'd pay for a decent trip somewhere! Reward yourself on your one-year anniversary.

Helped me to set a firm date. And don't hang with smokers after your quit date.

I think it also helped me to get into mods and start piecing together a nice setup. When I'd get the urge I'd go make some little knick-knack for my ever growing kit of stuff. The extra energy and spare time I have makes for some good tinkering.

I still get the urge, but it passes quickly as I get a dose of nicotine.

Good luck. Everybody's different on what makes them a successful non-smoker.

Don’t give up smoking. Seriously, you may be putting too much pressure on yourself with this. When I started e-cigs I was not planning on giving up smoking, just incorporating an alternative method into the rotation.

Two months after starting e-cigs, during which time I found myself naturally reducing the number of cigarettes I was smoking, I actually skipped cigarettes for an entire day and didn’t realize it until the end of the day. I haven’t had one since, by choice, as the few times since that I’ve had the urge I pictured lighting one and somehow the urge just disappeared. I still wouldn’t beat myself up if I did smoke one (of course I’d have to buy a new pack, because the only one I have left is well over a year old now). I still associate with smokers, and cigarette smoke still feels “friendly” to me, yet I’ve completely lost any desire to have one myself, which after over 38 years smoking still amazes me.

I think the journey away from cigarettes (if that’s the journey you want to take) is definitely different for each of us, and sometimes we put too much emphasis on giving up cigarettes immediately, or in three days, or some other arbitrary measure. Relax, find the pleasure in your e-cigs, and eventually you may find yourself simply dropping away from the cigarettes as your enjoyment of e-cigs increases.

So quit beating yourself up if you have a cigarette, it doesn’t have to be an either/or proposition, because even decreasing your intake is a good thing. Much good luck whatever you decide.

definitely agree. unless there's some serious health issue, don't worry about having an analog. honestly, after you might realize it's not as great as you thought, and it's always good to go back to one just to see how many misconceptions you have about how good it will be.

the transition back to vaping is immediate if you have the right juice flowin'. one cig won't make much of a difference in the scheme of things.

I'm at about 20 hours since my last analog cig, the longest I was able to go when I tried quitting cold turkey was like 7 or 8 hours. I haven't even cheated and tried to find any butts with a puff or 2 left in them in the ashtray. I'm a tad antsy and part of me would really like a cig but I physically don't have any so that's helping me alot. Except for a mild case of the shakes and some excessive sweating even though I have the AC on I'm actually feeling good. I'm really not even vaping that much.

that was the hardest for me to get used to when i switched to vaping. that initial "always warm' feeling. the increase in oxygen makes you lightheaded and feel dizzy and you're constantly hot from the better circulation.

that took about 2 weeks, now i don't have a problem with it.

1 year unfortunately - but this was because I didn't have backups when stuff failed or I ran out of liquid. Just keep with it and you'll soon kick the habit - also you might want to consider other smoking replacements such as nasal snuff or snus (avoid American-style dip because it's not as safe as the above mentioned). What I notice too is that I need a BIGGER nicotine dose to compensate for the other drugs in cigarette smoke (MAOIs, etc).

Getting used to not holding a cig seems to be worse than not smoking them - does that make sense?
I dont really miss smoking cigs to be honest - perhaps after eating chocolate is the only time now, and I dont eat chocolate that often lol. There's jsut something in it that triggers my smoking desire reflex. As i said, I did miss holding it between my fingers, which doesn't mean I found holding my various JOYE models odd but I missed my 'scissor grip' on a smoke for about a week or 2. Now I dont think about it (except just now lol)

It took less then a week to quit, but a few before I got used to not having a cig. I just kept the PV with me at all times and bought as much juice as I could. I also spent a lot of time on these forums. That helped a lot. Once you're lungs start feeling better, you won't want to smoke as much. It does get easier. i smoked for 30 years, so I do know what you're feeling. Hang in there and know that it gets a little easier everyday. Remember that all of us are pulling for you.

Aaaargh. My reply was too short to reply, so just adding some filler... If it was 20 hours before - is it 22+ now? That's almost a whole day. All downhill from here...

When I first started, I was using tobacco/menthol ejuice only and kept picking up the odd analog.

I got another PV along with a variety of flavors, and putting those flavors in rotation definitely worked for me... I now have a 40-day old half-pack of analogs somewhere in my desk (I think). :)

It took me over a month to quit analogs. I still crave them from time to time. I'm not sure if that will ever go away. But my PV makes the odd craving much easier to get through. Today I was around somebody smoking Kool Menthols. I really felt like I wanted one. But there was my PV. sitting on my shoulder sporting a little halo saying "You don't really want that do you?" :laugh:

Took me a total of... well the first time I got my 510 i vaped all the carts dry and wasn't getting my juice in till the next day so i relapsed there but as soon as I got my juice, I've been analog free ever since. The first 48 hours I kept getting cravings like I should be lighting something on fire.. and then inhaling, but I would just pick up my 510 and the craving would be gone as soon as I took a vape. I carry my 510 everywhere with me, I ninja vape in stores when no one is looking, when i go to the bathroom, its right next to me, it sits on my night stand right before I go to bed. it's like my own little buddy lol. And it keeps me from wanting an analog so I'm grateful to have it. I find that if you distract your self, and don't think about it. And I mean some heavy mental distractions like starting to read something or watching a movie that will distract you from thinking about it, and u pick up that e-cig instead of a real one. I found it helps. I also removed temptation away from me. Hid my ashtray and lighters, swept up all the ashes, picked up all the butts, extra cigs i mean anything that would remind me of an analog was gone. Out of sight, out of mind. ^^ It's really helped so much that I was around a chain smoker yesterday and didnt get one craving for an analog.
I have been getting mild headaches recently.. but nothing 2 tylenol won't cure ^^
