How long did it take you to learn to build?

After a week of reading and watching stuff i built my first coil last night.

I went for 1.8 ohms as a starting point for safety etc and used cotton.

To be honest i was really happy with the coil it was a piece of cake... i actually struggled more with threading the wick i found it hard to get the cotton thin enough to go through my coil then into my genesis tank etc.

First impressions, VP isn't very impressive but that wasn't the plan, the flavor of the 100% cotton is amazing compared to what i had been using in clearos. I just need to find a better way of dealing with the cotton... maybe a wider coil i dunno.

Good luck.

v1ck.

it took me a few days. mostly because i would get mad and just walk away from it. This was all before i read something here that told me to use a drill bit. seemed like every video i had watched did it free hand or with a sewing pin and that was just not cutting it for me. once i learned the drill bit thing it has been easy. If you keep the drill bit in the coil while you try and loop the legs around the screws it really helps. Once you get everything in place take the drill bit out and fire it up. I use yarn as a wick cause it is really easy to get it through the coil. i dont have to guess as to how much i am putting in there.

I think threading the cotton was the most frustrating thing about it, this time. I think it was a pretty clean build

I watched all sorts of videos, spent months convincing myself I couldnt do it etc etc. Made a thread the other night to ask for help putting together a little kit of supplies. Got them the next day and within 15 min of sitting down had a protank 2 head recoiled at 2.66 OHMs and producing great vape. The next day, attempt 2 ended up at 2.1 ohms and vaped even better! Now ive got 250 feet of wire coming and a taifun GT just sitting at home awaiting experimentation. Id tell people if I can make coils that work and outperform stock coils ANYONE can.

Ohm meter a few different drill bits a torch 28 kanthal tweezers organic cotton balls kayfun lite plus and a steady wrap. With little practice a caveman can do it. Oh yeah lots of videos by rip trippers.

Anyone else getting out of practice because of how long 28 kanthal coil last?

My first RBA was the kayfun, and I had the build down on my 2nd attempt. I had some wicking issues on my first attempt due to using too much wick. I watched quite a few videos, and have previous electrical knowledge from some high school level electronics courses and past experiences with modding. It was pretty easy for me.

My first attempt to build a coil for my Kayfun Lite didn't work out well. The trouble is ... I can't see good enough (even with my reading glasses) to do a good job putting together those itty-bitty coils.

So, here is my solution ... I just ordered a cheap ($5.79 to the door) set of these silly looking "Eye Jeweler / Watch Repair 20X Magnifying Glasses" ... I bet with these crazy looking glasses on, I will be making excellent coils faster than you can say "Eagle Eye"!

Please don't ask about my first attempt, trust me, you don't wanna know.

Coils were still kind of basic coils when I first started building them, and it was a learn as you go type of deal.
I still remember the first time I saw a RBA, and thinking "now how stupid is that!" My little 510 atty would vape circles around it.
It took a while for them to catch on, and then it took a while for guys to figure out how to get them to perform. So learning how to use one was a process, not an event.
New and more advanced RBA's, and more ways to build good coils these days than you can count has shortened the learning curve a lot. But, it in some ways has made it more confusing because the coil that works best in one RBA might be your worse nightmare in another.

In time I settled in with one type of build, and I probably only have to replace it every three months or so.

Hahaha this is perfect, today I walked into a local vapor shop just to check it out (every person reading this knows where this is going), and I saw they had kayfuns. Asked to see it and so on, and the owner was there and it ended with him saying in 10 minutes, watch me once and this is all you'll need to know. Right after he was done I took his off did my own And it was perfect first try. I've been so intimidated by yhe thought of Rebuildables and I just did it no problem. Got home and starting looking into coil videos and I saw this one in particular that completely mimiced what I was taught in the shop. I'll post the link at the bottom. It's a 30 minute video where I believe he shows muliple coils but after watching this guy and seeing he said this is a solid coil I was sold. The only things he leaves out are the size of the drill bit (3/32) and you should check your ohms lvl after pinching your coil to tighten it with the tweezers (since were just starting I doubt our wrapping skills are anything close to theirs). I hope this helps pm me if you end up using this and it works!
