How long did it take you to quit smoking?

I have been vaping for about 3 weeks, still have not been able to totally quit smoking cigs. The first few days I was able to go from 1.5 packs per day to about 5 a day, now I am back up to a half a pack a day. I think i am addicted to something in the cigs aside from the nicotine possibly. I am not giving up however I am determined to quit.

It's taken me months to quit. I used to smoke 4 packs a day! I had tried to switch several times, but just the PV just didn't take. I was using a Joye 510 that I got back in December. Then I was ordering earlier this month, and bought a 510 LR atty. And couldn't believe the difference it made! I finally was getting real throat hit. Over the course of this month I've been steadily cutting down.

Now I still smoke an analog occasionally, but no more than 6 analogs a day. I let myself do it to feel like I'm not living under Marshall Law or anything. But, I really don't crave it anymore. In fact, I much prefer the non-tobacco flavors. Here's a couple of tips I've seen that might help you:

1. Experiment to get the best throat hit with your equipment. For me, I get the best flavor when I use my 510 passthrough cable with a standard resistance 510 atty. So, say I'm vaping Peach Cobbler. That's where I get the best flavor.

But, if I'm really having a tobacco craving, I smoke Dekang Cuba Cigar off my standard 510 w/ an LR atty and Delrin Drip tip. Believe it or not, the drip tip improves the throat hit without the poly-fill of a cart getting in the way.

2. Try menthol flavors. When I first went to quit, I had never been a menthol smoker. But, when I vaped Dekang Nport it felt like I was getting away with something. Plus, the menthol adds a "kick" that seems to quench the crave. You'll get off the menthol in no time. I have 3 bottles of Nport that I'll probably never use, because now that my taste buds have bounced back it seems way to strong.

3. Last one I can think of. Amass as many flavors as possible. Buy yourself off with flavors that are too good to pass up. I'm finding right now that the juice I like the best is from gourmetvapor. My favorite flavor is "cinna-mint-thol". It's 40% cinnamon, 30% peppermint, 20% menthol, and 10% nutmeg. Just enough mint and menthol that it hooks my taste buds AND gives my nose a little bit of a tingle the way the analogs used to.

Hope this helps. And, like a lot of people have said so far. Don't be hard on yourself. Quitting is hard. I know -- I've tried 20 times before this and not succeeded. A couple of analogs a day won't hurt you, and you'll soon find yourself saying "this is sillly".

I received my Joye 510 on Thursday afternoon. We put the contraption together and I can say without a doubt that the 'Salem' flavor was awful. But, I'd gotten other e-juice (menthol) and I liked it better. That Thursday, I smoked one every hour. That in itself is almost a miracle. On Friday, I smoked one every 2 hours. On Saturday, I only smoked 2. I had said that if I only smoked 2 within a 24 hour period, I could put them down.....and I did. This board encouraged me greatly with a thread like this and I kept thinking that if so many people could do it, then I could as well. I was shocked! I couldn't believe I was me, and not someone else. I enjoyed smoking sooooo much. But, here I am.....almost a year later, next month. If I can do it, then there is great hope for everyone! I was smoking 2 pad and a little more. I'd smoked for 42 years, thinking I'd never get off of them. The e-cig has literally saved my life. I love my Joye 510.

I am on day 2 of smoking my e-cig and still smoking. Yesterday I only had 2 smokes and today I plan on having just one. I am having a hard time giving up the morning smoke.

I had cravings the first day or so while I tried to find a voltage level that matched smoking close enough, after a week or so now I have no desire to smoke even when drinking.

Voltage is the key. I had known for a while that when I smoked at the computer I got a better hit, but couldn't figure out why. Well, it's because the passthrough cable is 5v. Duh! And the 510LR atty on my battery makes it vape as if it was 5 volts. Overall, I'm getting much better throat hit now.

Two things I had forgotten to mention in my last post.

1) First, gourmet vapor is have a %50 off sale though July 4th. Enter the coupon code "giveme50" when you checkout. I ordered about $200 in e-liquid last night and got a ton for the money. Plus, it only cost me $92 with the discount!

Also, please check out their website for the quality of merchandise they offer. All of thei e-liquids are made from quality products and made to your specifications. You can choose from recipes other people have created, or you can create your own e-liquid by specifying the ratio of 4 different flavors. Enter in the PG/VG mix level you want, and the amount of nicotine. Boom, you're done. All the fun of DIY with none of the hassle!

The second thing I wanted to share is that the FDA is forcing tobacco companies to put graphic ads on their packs of cigarettes. Check out the pics at this link:

well, towards the end of my smoking career, I was smoking near a pack every time I went out )Which was about three .. four times a week.).

When I got my 510, the first drag of it wasn't the experience that I had with normal analog cigarettes; and the nicotine wasn't satisfying at all. I guess the main reason why I smoked cigarettes was that 'high' feeling you get when you take a long drag off it. But I'm sure that's from all the carcinogens creating a lack of oxygen to the brain, or something.

Anyway! The transition was easy. I stop smoking analog cigarettes the moment I started vaping. It was that easy.

I remember when I got my first pv kit, I only lasted about few hours and had to have a cig. The kit was really bad. So when I ordered Joye 510 and an Ego, I quit straight away. I went from smoking a pack a day to none in one day and didnt find it hard at all. Never had any withdrawal symptoms or mood swings or anything like that, its amazing. I did have one full cigarette on the night out though, when my battery died on me, doh! Im surprised I didnt smoke more, as I usually chain smoke when I drink. And thats it, I went back to vaping the next day without any difficulties.

There's a pool for this question:
How long did it take you to stop smoking? - View Poll Results

The pool results show that the majority quit the day the pv arrive.

I'm vaping for a month and still smoking cause I had a 2 pack of cigs when my ego arrived.
I didnt want to trow my packs away and neither wanted to smoke them all before I started vaping, so I'm smoking about 4 cigs/week. For me its good this way cause I see how much vaping feels better than smoking.
I dont want to miss smoking and remember it like something that was great, so I smoke a few analogs just to remember how awful they are =p
I was an alcoholic and been sober for 7 years, I cant have 1 beer or I will not be able to stop anymore.
If I was quit smoking without ecig I'm sure I would have the same rule, if I smoke just 1 cig I wouldn't be able to stop.
But with an ecig its not the same, I vape all day long and ocasionaly smoke a regular cig in the end of the day with my system already full of nicotine, when I do it my body isnt crazy for nicotine, for me there is no pleasure in smoking a regular cig when u're already full of nicotine.
So my point like some plp said is to not make a big deal of smoking 1 or 2 regular cigs, in time their "magic" goes away.
