Three packs the day before my PV came. 1 pack the first day, 1/2 pack each of the next 4. None after that. After 5 1/2 months I still reach for a cig if I'm not thinking. Then I remind myself I don't do that any more, grab my Chuck and vape away.

It's different for all of us. If you need to do both for a while. Do both. Don't think of it as how many cigarettes you still had -- it's how many you didn't have that matters. Maybe you used to smoke a pack a day and, thanks to your PV, you only smoke half a pack. That's 10 cigarettes you didn't smoke each day. It's better to go at your own pace.

Today is my 24hr mark with vaping. I think I have had 2-3 regular smokes today. Other than the first thing in the morning smoke, when I finished them I thought to myself, WTH did I do that for? I already feel better, smell better, breathe better. I really feel that this will be my last pack of analogs, if I even bother to finish it. I am awaiting some ms t's yummy sounding flavors to come in any day now. if they taste as good as they sound, it's over. no more burning leaves for me!

One reason I tried ecigs is that I read about a guy who took 7 months to fully quit smoking analogs. I figured I could probably do that.

The first week I had so much trouble keeping 2 batteries charged I just decided I wasn't gonna' get too serious with vaping until I got more supplies. It was just too hard switching back and forth between ecigs & analogs. They seemed too different, though I enjoyed each.

Day 7, I had more batteries, chargers, etc and told myself I wasn't gonna beat myself up over smoking an analog - I'd just relax and vape if I wanted to or not. That's when I really begin to prefer ecigs to analogs.

Day 12, I didn't smoke any analogs and decided I'd try seeing how long I could go without since I'd smoked 2 packs a day for 25 years. I removed the ashtray near my bed and gave my emergency pack of analogs and lighter away. I was loving it until again I had supplies issues.

Day 16, I ran out of cartos and had to borrow from my wife. I got so frantic and angry a shipment had been delayed that I thought I'd go back to analogs, but I slapped on a Nicotine patch instead. This almost made my cravings worse as I realized I was more addicted to puffing on something than the Nicotine, it just made me jittery!

Day 18, my supplier messed up and sent me one of those tuiti-fruiti flavors everyone's raving about. I was ......, but since it was all I had I used 'em. To my surprise I liked them and started trying other flavors.

Day 22, I realized I'll never smoke analogs again. I'd begun to see them differently now. My wife still smokes and doesn't know why the dogs won't come near her. I see analogs differently now. They really are a stinky, messy, expensive, dangerous habit!

My suggestion is: RELAX. Don't push yourself into quitting, just give ecigs a try and see if it happens for you.

It takes as long as it takes - seriously - don't have any expectations - just do what feels right for YOU at your own pace. Don't compare yourself to others, don't worry about the ones you DO smoke, pat yourself on the back for all the ones you DON'T smoke.
Enjoy :)

Was just catching up reading threads that I haven't and came across this brilliant pearl of wisdom. Perfectly written and absolutely sums up the attitude and approach that all newbies should adopt, IMHO.

Why saddle yourself with guilt and the pressures of fixed expectations. Just enjoy the journey and know that it WILL happen.

CaptJay, you always give awesome advice. I enjoy reading all of your posts.

I was a bit hesitant to post since I had read so many "first day" switchers...but I've had my e-cigarette since Monday (roughly 3 days now) and I've smoked 2 analogs since then. Previously, I would have had at least half a pack a day. I'm trying to feel like I'm making progress but sometimes I think it's lame that people on here with much worse habits than me were able to switch to instantly!

The vape tastes better, it feels better, etc. The only thing I miss is the ritual of a cigarette, the interval. By that I mean, the specialness of nicotine has lost its sheen with the e-cig, because now I can get it anywhere, any time. Before, having a cigarette was like that ritual, where I sit outside and just think, and for a solid 10 minutes or more (thanks you Natural American Spirit brand) I was doing nothing else but having my cig. With the e-cig, it never gets any shorter, so all the aspects of ashing and cigarette movements sort of go out the window, and I miss them greatly! Not to mention, sometimes I strangely feel like that "dirty" cigarette taste of real burning tobacco, and not some sweet vanilla or fruity vapor...

That said, I feel better having only smoked 2 cigs in the last 3 days, the e-cig has been great. I guess it does help, even if I feel like a failure, I'm still smoking a lot less than before. Hopefully I can cut the analogs out completely soon.

That's the thing that all the do-gooders who want to regulate e-cigs to protect us from the evils of propylene glycol don't get.

Yes, I'm addicted to nicotine. But it's minor compared to my addition to the act of smoking itself. Wellbutrin, Chantrix, the patch, gum -- none of them help with that side of the addiction. PVs are the only product that give me the nicotine I need and, more importantly, let me enjoy the act of smoking while avoiding all the garbage in tobacco cigarettes.

I stopped smoking real cigarettes the same day I received my first kit in the mail. I'm amazed at how easy it was for me to switch over since I've been smoking about five packs a week for over 17 years. I've never even tried to quit before because of the fact that I've always enjoyed smoking. It's funny but the ONLY reason I decided to try out e-cigs was so I could smoke in the house. I had originally planned to use the e-cig during those times when I didn't feel like going outside, and smoke regular cigarettes while at work or otherwise out and about. I had half a pack left when I received my starter kit and after it sat around untouched for three days, I ended up throwing it in the trash. Granted, it's only been about two weeks for me so far, but I don't plan on buying more. I much prefer vaping. :)
