How many you all rocking the rm2 single coil ? I see all these new bf attys from Rob and even from other places ..Are any worth the price of admission ? - any game changers ? I'm not a guy who likes to build lots of coils and experiment hence Rm2 has served me good but one always thinks grass is greener..... Anything worth looking At?

I usually get my coils pretty close to how I like but not quite and it frustrates me like Crazy to have to tinker with it. :) ...
Don't know why it took me so long to remember the possibility of a Kick (which I'm sure has been discussed for years). Do any of you all use one? --last time I checked they only go up to 15 watts though
Or
Should I just dive in and learn to make coil with my exact ohm rating to my taste and juice (but juice changes sometimes hence the kick be handy?)

For you non cloud chasers do you usually shoot for .9-1.2ohms?

Hi,

Great question! So, here is my experience...

I am newer to REOs, but not new to vaping or to coil building, dripping, etc. However, the Woodvils with RM2s (single coil), have been the setup that pushed every other device/setup to the bottom of my vape drawer.

I do have a Derringer BF and while I think it is outstanding, it has a tad too much airflow for me. Combine that with just really liking the look of the RM2 with the Woodvil, sadly the Derringer does not get that much use. However, I do think it is an outstanding atty and I have a couple of them (one BF from Catfish and two others just from my dripping days). I think the Derringer is a great investment, should you simply want to try something different.

I am sure that others will chime in and hopefully, you will get some good feedback!

Flexsr, I still rock only RM2s with single coil. Well, it depends on what you mean by single coil. I wrap a parallel coil in my RM2s, but not dual coils (one on each side of the atty) I use 28g Kanthal A1 and do 3 or 4 wraps on a Q-Tip shaft which takes 3mm ReadyXwick perfectly, in my opinion. I want to try all of these other attys that we are all reading about, but lack of cash squashes that. I haven't owned a kick since the days when I rocked my first REO. Nowadays, I just build what I know will come in at about .4-.5ohms and the coil I mentioned above gives me that.

I DO want to try some of the mouth-to-lung atomizers and I will some day.

On the derringer there is just enough room left on the ACF ring is one is good they can drill there own sized air hole. ;)

You'll only get one shot though so something to mark your starter hole and start a small hole and work your way up from there so you don't go too big buy accident.

Oh and I'd say try a rm8 from rob or a rm4!

They both will do single or dual coil and ha e air flow control.

When JC Okie sent me a surprise package I got a single coil RM2. It was different to say the least. I'm more of a lung hitter.
With dual coil atty's though. Getting to 1.0 ohms or so wouldn't be difficult. Dual coils with 28g kanthal with 11 wraps around 2.4mm diameter would roughly be at 1.0 ohms. That many wraps with 28g isn't very long.

I never used a kick though. I also have no suggestions for Mr. Rob's other atty's. I want to buy one of each so I can do videos on them, I just can't justify buying so many atty's and having them sit around in a drawer. I will say though, I'm liking the RM8 as a possibility

On the kick front, I wouldn't really recommend it. I set one up for the wife to try and entice her into the 'Ville and it's drawbacks are that it requires using a smaller battery (so it will fit), is a bit fiddly to balance on the battery, produces PWM (rattlesnake) power, and restricts your range of allowable resistances.

Really, other than letting you be less mindful of battery charge, it doesn't get you much.

As for other atties to try, there are a lot. The past year has seen about 20 different models pop up for bottom feeding. I'd suggest you watch a few videos to get acquainted with some of these before diving in. Dual coils at <.5ohms with wide open air, wide bore dt, etc. is a significantly different thing than a RM2 with a single coil. For starters, here's a suggested list to get you thinking...

RM3 (dual coil version)
RM4 (Atomic)
RM7 (Rogue)
RM8 (Derringer)
Manta

Still using the RM2, and Single coil. Have no need for change. Have used many coil sizes, but found the 3/32 to be the best overall that allows 4-5 great tokes before squonking. You can get great vaping using a 1.0 thru 1.3 ohm coil as the battery drops to 3.7v.

My RM2 set up:
  • 28g Kanthal
  • 6/7 wraps on 3/32 bit
  • 1.25 ohms
  • AW 1600
  • Cellucotton
Also, you can order spare parts from Rob if you ever need them. That's something else I like about it.

I'm a single-coil boy too, both in my RM2s and in my Chalice III. Usually build to .7ohms-ish, and still using silica to wick. I'm just too inattentive to keep cotton from burning with that occasional shoulda-squonked dry hit. Silica's forgiving.

I can't use cotton, but have had great luck with rayon, and it is also forgiving on the occasional dry hit.

Been around the block and back but still banging with my RM2s. What I was looking for was something else i could turn to instead of 2 1/2 to 3 packs of smokes a day, after months of experimenting, a .7ohm coil in my RM2 produced just enough nicotine and heat I needed to beat the nasty addiction I had developed over the years. A lot depends on what you are looking for, the RM2 worked for me and so did dual coil attys but is there a need for the extra nic and vapor, for ME no. A REO/w .7ohm coil, 24mg slightly sweetened nic. and being around a few extra years with my grand kids (maybe) life is good!

I still love my RM2's after nearly 2 years! I've come to the conclusion
that I'm a small atty kinda vapor. I also have an RM3 (single version and IGO-S. Very similar to RM2 IMHO). I made the airflow larger in all 3. Single coil, running from 1 - 1.4, depending on the juice. (Minty, menthol higher, more tobacco lower). Have only tried an Odin but re homed it. Great atty for lung hitters. I'm all about flavor and this seems to do it.

I am presently on the cello bandwagon but a couple months back I was grooving with the KGD.

I'm curious. I usually at best get 2 hits off one squonk. (I'm ok with that. Easier to remember). I use a ton of cello. Barely able to get thru the coil. Am I the only "frequent squonker" in the whole wide world of Reoville?

I squonk after every 2, maybe 3, hits. I like the KGD, but one bad dry hit gives you 'dry cotton aversion' syndrome, so I err on the side of always wet wicks.

Squonkito ergo sum - I squonk, therefore I am, I always say.

ETA: In fact, I just changed my sig to it.
