I appreciate all the people that helped me with deciding on a good glassomizer to start off with, but how often will I have to change the coil heads? What is the difference between 1.5, 1.8. 2.2 etc.. and which type of coil head gets the most life out of it? Which coil heads can be manually cleaned to extend life? Do certain coil heads burn more liquid? And where can I get the best service, and price with fast shipping? sry about all those questions but I'm too thorough for my own good sometime.

Well as a former user of the Kanger Protank I can tell you the following:

The numbers you asked about are the resistance in ohms of the coils in the heads you are buying. 1.2 ohms is lower resistance that 2.2, obviously, and some like that lower resistance as it means a hotter coil that heats faster and they like the flavor they get from that. Resistance in ohms has a definite effect on flavor.

How often you will have to change the coil heads depends very much on how much you vape. If you are a chain vaper like me, that might be fairly often. If you are instead a normal person they might last you days. When I was using a Protank it got so I was having to rebuild coils constantly, which got old pretty quick. I had 24 Protank heads on hand at all times, some being rebuit, others waiting to be used.

Some coil heads can't be rebuilt, but I've heard that soaking them overnight in cheap vodka works. I don't know firsthand, as I never tried that. I can't say where the best service is on those items since I haven't used them in quite a long time now.

Hey. Personally, I like the Aspire BDC a lot with Evod as a close second (havent tried a glass evod, but I'm sure the plastic compares well). The resistance doesn't make a whole ton of difference on a stick battery, IMO and a VV/VW battery or mod allows you to adjust. In the Aspire, the choices are 1.8 and 2.1 I believe. YMMV.

They say most coils last about a week. I think you get longest life out of them by having two or three in rotation, with the ones not in use soaking in alcohol or water (I go alcohol, dry burn, water (boil or soak) dry, use). The problem seems to be that if the coil gets too gunky, when you burn it, the smoke flavors the wick (Or the gunk gets burned into the wick). Going a couple tanksfull and cleaning seems to give me real good results. Aspire coil heads are a bit more expensive than the evods. MBV has the best price that I have casually observed for Aspires. Evods in my experience burn out during dry burns, Aspires just get too burnt tasting to use.

Let's see.

Change the coil when you taste a difference. Usually a bad difference. For a pack a day smoker this is about 1-4 weeks but the real thing is change when you taste it.

The numbers is the resistance of the coil in ohms. In general the lower the ohms the more vapor and the warmer it will be. If you have a variable voltage or variable wattage mod you can turn it up as the ohms go up to get a similar vape. You should try different values to see what you like best. Some people like different resistance for different juices.

I have no idea which coils last longer.

Cleaning will probably extend the life of any coil. Rinse in hot water and soak in alcohol, vodka or denatured or whatever the higher the proof the better. Then let it dry, probably will take 2 days.

Some heads do appear to burn more juice. A hotter head will use more juice as it produces more vapor. Some atomizer designs use more liquid at the same resistance as other heads. I am not sure which.

You can not get the best service, best price, and fast shipping. Fastech generally has the best prices but they are in China, where most of the vape gear is made, so shipping is 2-God knows weeks and service is across an ocean. Look to the companies that sponsor this web site to find vendors that meet some standards. Shop around cause relative prices will vary based on items. Google will help you find what shops sell what you are looking for.

Good luck on the vaping road.

Twicehorn, I am 12 days analog free but my coils are taking a beating. I am using about 4.3v and several different carto tanks but I can only take drags about every 3-4 minutes without it turning into a dry burnt taste. Have you found a way around that being a chain vaper? I need to have this thing in my mouth pretty much all the time to keep me away from analogs. I'm also at 24mg so you can see I need it all the time. Any insight will be much appreciated.

Stonefree, I am using iclear 30B, Nautilus Aspire (till I killed it) and lots of Kanger protanks and they seem to do okay IF you're not a chain smoker. I am and am changing coils every 2-3 days and on particularly rough days everyday. My favorite so far is the Boge 17, it seems to last longer and give really good hits. It has the slotted cartomizer. I am buying 2.5ohm on all cartos and coils because the smaller numbers seem to burn and give me trouble faster.
I am new to this so my answers are only what I have found is working better for me but it's still not working great.

Well I did find a way around that, a mech and a genesis RBA, but if you are just starting out that's a bit of a leap for you in just 12 days. I feel for ya, I really do, cause I've been there and I was pretty frustrated with the ego rigs and clearos, they just flat didn't cut it for me. Neither did the Protank. Some of us just need more than that equipment can deliver. I was five weeks into vaping when I rolled my first mesh wick and coiled it. I never looked back and have been loving my genny on my mech since. It's been nearly a year now.

The voltage isn't the issue, it's the atomizer not being hardy enough to take it. A genesis RBA can, especially if you take the time to learn how to set it up RIGHT.

Wow, that's quite a few questions there!

I think most pretty much clarified the resistance questions, but I'd argue that it difficult for most users to tell a big difference between say a 1.8 and a 2.2, it's just not going to make that big of a difference to most people. The theory is that lower gets hotter, higher is a bit cooler...but again, my experience is that it's marginal until you start looking at 1+ ohm difference. Also, the lower the resistance, the more liquid that will get used. Dual coil systems will also use more liquid.

I'll also touch on your issue with dry hits. This, in my perception, was the main reason I hunted for the right setup. Honestly, when I started, all of the various clearos I tried experienced this problem. It wasn't truly until I started doing my own custom builds that I found the issue largely solved. I settled on the Kanger Mini-Pro 2 setup and do custom 28GA microcoils with cotton string and haven't had a dry hit since. Some tips, to help though would be to make sure you're priming the wicks (dripping liquid straight on the wick) and if applicable to your tank, you create a vacuum by allowing excess air to escape.

Many coils can be cleaned with OK results, but it's not usually the most effective method. You can try to soak in Everclear or Vodka, let dry and try again. Most times, though, when a coil goes it's because the wick is shot...which no amount of cleaning will fix. That's another reason I got into rebuilding...was to save the cost of buying new coils. I have about 40 or so that I rotate through and spend a Saturday morning rebuilding a dozen+ every few months.

As for vendors, there's many out there and you probably couldn't go wrong with any of the approved vendors here on ECF. I don't like to play favorites, but a couple of the vendors I'd recommend for hardware are GotVapes and Discount Vapers. There's many others to consider, though, and all have their niches. Good luck!

This is me temporarily worshipping at the altar of Vaslovik! I am using an eVic but my Provari should be here tomorrow! I realized I needed to do something to keep this up. I am going to find a genesis right now if I can. Can you please point me in the right direction?

Well gosh, I'm flattered, but please don't do that worship thing

A Provari is a magnificent device, as regulated mods go, but I've never used one. I skipped over the regulated mods and went straight to the mechanicals. The genesis RBA's I build will not fire on a Provari, you need a mech for that. Regulated mods won't let you go sub-ohm, and I build my RBA's for .7 ohm.

Not to worry, you can still build an RBA that will work on a Provari, it's been done by many people, you just can't go below 1.0 ohm, I'm not sure of the actual number not having owned a Provari, or any regulated mod. It can be done, though I can't really advise you on that being that I've never done it, but PBusardo can, and it pays to watch his videos on YouTube. He taught me a lot.

You don't have to go sub-ohm to get a good vape, it might not be for you at all, and you might be okay at 1.2 ohm or higher. You will find out as you go along.

As for which genny to get, I personally favor the RSST. It's a great beginner RBA, simple to set up, and has some very nice features. It's my full time vape and I'll probably buy a second one soon.

Here's the great PBusardo sharing his Genesis Epiphany with us:

Thank you for the great answers and the boost in the right direction. I am on the hunt for my RBA now, does it make any difference if I get a clone or the real McCoy? I think the clone may be the only way I can get one right now. This is costing me more than cigarettes at the moment but at least the stuff will last.

Thanks for the link as well I subscribe to him but sometimes find watching the whole long video a challenge. This time I'm going to have to though.

Well, the RSST is pretty darn cheap, I got mine for $26. It's basically a clone of the Vapinaze AC9, though not completely, and the AC9 will run you $140, if you can even get one. Bear in mind there are some for whom dripping is a religion, and genesis RBA's are heresy. Even well known YT reviewers cannot get a genny right, Grim Green for instance. I honestly don't know why. He seems like an intelligent guy, but he just can't build a genny right.

Some just cannot ever build a genny right, and end up doing the cotton/microcoil thing instead. They will come after you and do their best to convert you to their religion. Count on it. If you want to go that way fine, I just wanted to share what was my own solution to the ego rig frustration, and it worked beautifully for me.

1: How often to change coils?
Probably 3 days to a week.

2: Difference between 1.5, 1.8, 2.2 etc .
If you have standard eGo batteries, the 1.5 will be hotter than the 2.2
If you have a VV battery, you use lower voltage with the 1.5, and higher voltage with the 2.2
If you have a VW mod, you won't need to adjust when you change from 1.5 to 2.2

3: Cleaning heads.
You can clean the coils.
You can rewick with cotton.
You can recoil with kanthal wire.

4: Do certain coil heads burn more liquid?
Coils that run at higher power will burn more liquid;
example: the dual coils that come with the protank3, aerotank, nautilus, aspire BDC.

5: ...

I wish I knew what you guys were talking about. I guess I'm not adventurous enough. I just don't know what RSST's are. I bought a cool fire and the thing came without holes to draw on then I forgot to get the battery, then I forgot the charger....I could go on but it's too embarrassing. Anyway I'm still using the Kanger tanks, 1 million coils and a variable EVOD battery. I just need someone to tell me where and what to buy. I've tried to read but I just don't get it. I am hopeless.

What are your goals? People need to understand what end result you want before they can give opinions.

I dont know what i am doing wrong(right?) But.
I am using the same coils that the damn tanks i have came with! 3 Months now. I bought packs of replacement coils for them and havent even opened the packages.
And DO I CHAIN VAPE! I have
2x Pro tank minis
2x Kanger Aero Tanks
4x EVOD's
2x Aspire BDC's
1x Aspire Vivi Nova Mini.
I usually refill 2 or 3 of these tanks daily(the aero tanks 2 days..ish)
Every 2 or 3 refills, i tank the coil out rinse in hot water, papertowel dry, then burn dry them till the gunk on the coils turn white, juice em up and off i go!
EDIT. I have changed coils my bad. One tank(Mini Nova) i was pulling the pin out to make contact and pulled it right out! Coil and all..of course it was full of juice at the time..so yea. And one of the Kanger Coils i was messing with the wick and broke the coil...other than that, i havent changed a coil just because it was dirty! 5 mins of cleaning if that.

Vaslovik, I was talking to the guy at the local vape shop and he's telling me I will need to re-wet cotton every 5-6 puffs. Is that the kind you have?

Errr.. no! I don't use cotton, I use stainless steel mesh. He's talking about a dripper. I don't use drippers. I tried one, did the whole dual microcoil and cotton thing, it wasn't for me, and I went right back to my genesis RBA. The thing with drippers is that they are good for only a few hits, then you have to drip more juice into them, take a few more hits, drip drip drip puff puff puff, drip drip drip, etc, etc, etc.

For me that was a hassle. I just want to sit here and vape for hours at a time, and a genesis RBA lets me do that.

This is what the coil and wick look like on a genesis RBA:

This is what a dripper looks like:

The dripper fanatics will tell you all day long about the wonderful mind blowing flavor of drippers and how they'd never do anything else. Well I tried it, and meh! They can do their thing, I'll do mine.
