Make my own, no question.
If I want to change gauge, or fuse, ect, it doesn't bother me to know I'm not using that spool of pre-made! Lol
That, and I find it very satisfying to create something with my own two hands.
I thought your original question was how much can be spun up in one pass, I'm between 1.5 and about 2ft when I'm feeling lucky. Ahhh the adrenaline gets to flowin when I get past a foot and the drill is a hummin!

I use about 4' of 33 ga kanthal for 6 to 7 inches of Clapton, and about 3'6" for 32 ga for about the same length. Since I do claptons freehand without a swivel/vice I don't like to go very long on the lengths as I have more difficulty the farther I get from the drill. Quick estimation says it's about 12' of Clapton from a roll of 33 or 32. These numbers are all averages, I'll use a bit more for a fused setup, and less on a 33/28 single core Clapton. I like building my own because I think it's fun and I have the time.

all the time i have vaped i have never made a clapton coil. I wonder if i even could all it is thinner gauge wire wrapped around the thicker gauge right? I have 28 gauge and 24 gauge wire could I do a Clapton out of that?

Absolutely! Your wire will be quite thick with the 28 as the outer wrap, it might be worth trying though, and if you like it, pick up some thinner wire for the outer wrap. The only problem you may run into is fitting the coil into your device due to thickness.

It will require more power to heat up as well. Not that that's necessarily a problem.

28/24g Claptons are doable. It's going to make your wire density thick AF but they'll work. Bump your wattage a bit on a reg'd mod to see how hot you like it. I personally prefer high gauge Claptons, but I barely ever use single core Claptons. 24g KA1 wrapped with 40g N80 parallel to 24g N80 was one of my recent non-fused Clapton builds, 6 wraps in parallel on a 3mm. I prefer fused Claptons (2 strands wrapped together) with 38g & up as the wrap though.

I thought you made a thread saying Claptons were overrated?
for me it still is since i vape it around 30-40watts, people who raved about it because they vape it at much higher wattages, hotter vape = more flavorful im assuming

i build it for fun, then vape a week or two and throw regular coils in there, tastes the same to me, or maybe because its my aromamizer lolz

Maybe i will pick up some 32 gauge to make those with. Power is not a problem i have a snow wolf 200watt

....Claptons are vapeable at 30-40w. Just go with a higher gauge core. I made a couple wire sticks for my buddy's subtank/subox mini (which has a .3Ω cutoff), a 30/40g fused Clapton & a 28g/36g SFC. Both were all N80. He used the 30/40g fused first and his first words to me were: "Dude I'm getting better flavor at 25w with this than I am at 50w with the coils it came with"

....so yeah I'd say a 26/32g or 26/30g or 24/28g aren't the best kind of Claptons. You're raising your wires density too much. There's no rule saying you have to vape them at high wattages. I mean, the Vaporshark rDNA40 only went up to 40w and I've built plenty of people Claptons that performed well at 40w & under.

My friend was over last month and we had the exact same question. He's an engineering major so all the math credit goes to him, I was just there for the celebrity endorsement :)

My friend was trying to figure out how much wire he'd need to wrap around the core wire for a Clapton he was making, so I came up with this equation and it works!

Yes, I'm the friend he's referring to.
Great formula. I have always eyeball ed it and usually end up with less then a foot of fuse wire.

In my experience, using any wire below 36g for the outer doesn't provide much in the way of results. 38-42g is where they really shine. The smaller gauge outers add zero to ramp up time and add tremendously to the flavor. Fused claptons like the 28/40g below open up the flavor even more by adding much more space for the juice to creep in and hide. It's the juice inside the wire that adds the magic, not just what's touching the wick. Imo :p
