how many pulls until you feel the effects of the nicotine? Or do you?

I swear I haven't gotten a "nic buzz" since 7th grade. Even after the strong Newport I bummed from the first smoker I saw after having abstained for 2 1/2 months while mountaineering on Outward Bound (yeah I was a dumb kid).

I used to be able to get a nic buzz after going a day without one. Like fall down, head spinning, heart pounding, buzz. And that was with an ultra light!

Honestly, and this is just 'me', but I don't feel ANYTHING at 12mg. 18mg is "okay" but I go through juice like crazy. I "need" 24mg to stave off my addiction and "feel" what I need to feel. (Plus, I get nice throat hit at 24mg regardless of how the juice is mixed PG/VG wise).

Next time you order juice why don't you try one of those places with the little 3ml samples? Try some different strengths and see if that helps you.

Addiction is a strange beast, just because you quit doesn't mean it ever really goes away. Once you start again you will shoot right back up to your old tolerance very quickly (this is more noticeable with alcohol and 'hard' drugs, but it still holds true.) This is why once people "go back" to smoking (or drinking) after a period of not, they are RIGHT back where they were within' a few weeks (or in some cases days).

I have to ask though, if you're not getting the "buzz" ... are you craving? Do you have withdrawal?

So here is what is unusual about my situation. I had been nicotine free for three years. I had essentially quit. I was not over it (I never will be) but had quit and was doing fine.

I was recently diagnosed with adult ADHD. No problem. I have a successful business and generally have dealt with it successfully for over 40 years. In my research, I found out that there is a direct correlation between people who have this condition and smoking. People with this condition generally like smoking and have a hard time quitting. They have also found that nicotine can often help people with this condition focus which is why they do it. I became obsessed with the link between smoking and my condition. As a side note, about a year ago, I had purchased a couple of ecigs to use with 0% nic because I still missed the sensation of smoking so much.

Fast forward to last week. I already had the hardware, now all I needed was the juice with nicotine in it. As I said, I HAD to try it. I felt like it might really help me in times where i find it difficult to concentrate and get through certain projects.

I went out and bought juice that had 6%, 12%, 24% and 36%. I was afraid to use more than the 6% because I did not want to OD after all this time. I have used the 6% with a couple of drops mixed in to make it more like 8% but have been afraid to do more. Of course, it was at this time that I realized that I was not getting that typical buzz that I used to get and that led me to ask the forum the questions.

In terms of withdrawal, I am not really having it. I do have several times throughout the day where I want to vape, but the cravings are not super in intense. I am probably still not using a high enough mixture.

That is where I am at. Any additional advice would be great. Thanks for listening.

I think there are two reasons we don't feel the same "buzz" that we got from cigarettes:

We aren't inhaling any carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide binds to the red blood cells and blocks oxygen from reaching the brain. This makes us feel a "rush" or a "buzz" similar to holding your breath.

Nicotine absorption is slower with vaping than it is with cigarettes.

Even with using higher voltage and higher nicotine, the "buzz" might only be slight. I don't think you'll ever get the exact same feeling from vaping that you did from cigarettes.

This is the answer. I don't "feel" nicotine until I get sick from it. I know I'm getting it, but now I enjoy vaping so much that I cut my nicotine down again so I don't have to deal with the effects from over-doing it.

It was a sad day for me when I realized I was really addicted to carbon monoxide, or depraving my brain of oxygen

It seems like I take a pull every 5 to 10 minutes if I averaged it over the course of a work day. I'm using 18mg strength. Sometimes there will be hour(s) between pulls and sometimes I'll take 5 or 10 in a row.

I don't really feel anything except for that I don't have any cravings or such.

Riggs-

+1 with Riggs....only its never a few hours between pulls...maybe an hour....maybe... but everything else to a T.

Many times when I take around a half dozen back-to-back tokes of 36mg, I get a headache. And with 36mg I've found I can't vape the whole trip while I'm on a 15-minute drive to work...I have to put the ecig down. This is a lot different than my experience at 24mg, which I constantly chain vaped while driving.

Most of the day I just keep my ecig hanging from my mouth though not actually vaping it. I just get the flavor of the juice. I don't need auto-batts because of how infrequently I actually take a drag.

I'd love to give my opionion about all this. But I really am trying to stick to my experience. Even though I sometimes don't.

Have a great weekend everyone. Be sure to sit outside and get some sun while you vape :)

HTH,
Dave

Yes thats fair. Definitely more often than I smoked and that's partly due to the fact I generally can vape anywhere but also because the nicotine uptake/absorption is less than with cigs. Thats why ammonia and some other additives are in them as far as I know. Also missing the other alkaloids found in tobacco besides just nic.

I vape whenever I can, but it doesn't matter if I go many hours without doing it. Nicotine addiction is like caffeine addiction once you're past a few months of not smoking.

My neighbor has adult ADHD, which wasn't diagnosed until he was in his 40's. He was using Nicorette gum secretly for years, but now he is vaping instead (he likes the social aspect). He said that he can go days without it, but when he really needs to concentrate or feels frustrated, he vapes and it really helps. He also said he doesn't feel addicted to nicotine at all, it's just something that he knows helps him.

Ob,

I vape easily 4 times as much as I smoked. I was a light smoker, only 12 a day. I vape 12 mg now but started at 18mg. I have gotten a buzz when I vaped 24mg for a few minutes. I didn't like it because I don't like the room spinning LOL! I did carry a bottle of 24mg with me the first 3 months for those "911" times when you filled with panic and getting the urge to bum a ciggie off a co-worker. Two tokes off 24mg and it would calm me right down and the panic would subside.

that is exactly what I am trying to access right now. I wonder what strength he uses? My issue is that I will become addicted to the nicotine again inevitably.

Very interesting point the OP brings up. When I first started vaping, I was surprised by how big the difference in nicotine delivery. With cigs, you get a big nic rush, then it quickly fades. With e-cigs, it comes on slow and wears off slow. You can actually get too much nic before you realize it, then it takes a long time to wear off. Only occasionally do i feel a nic rush with vaping. Usually, it only happens when I haven't vaped for some time. That's unlike cigs where you feel a nic rush almost every time you smoke one. No complaints though. I have no problem with the nic delivery from vaping.

He uses 18 mg. I am making his juice for him - he only likes a little bit of menthol and lemon, not something you can buy easily. I really don't think that you will get addicted to nicotine in the same way you were addicted to cigarettes, it will be more than you will want nicotine at certain times because of how it helps you focus on something. If you catch yourself wanting to vape as soon as you wake up, then it's time to worry about it and adjust your nicotine level or whatever.

My neighbor also vapes when he's drinking a beer with smokers or other vapers, but I know he's only doing it because other people are because he doesn't remember to pull his PV out of his pocket unless someone else is doing it.

He must have never really been addicted to nicotine :) I was not ever a social smoker. I smoked because I loved it!

No, he wasn't, but that's because he never smoked. What I mean is that you don't need to worry about being addicted to nicotine in the same way you were addicted to smoking because when nicotine is separated from all the other 3999+ chemicals, it doesn't have the same "gotta have it right now" driving force. I think many of us are finding out that we weren't addicted to nicotine as much as we were to carbon monoxide and other chemicals that accelerated nicotine into our system.

Thats probably true... I havent had that kick me in the head I need a grit feeling for a monthish.... course I aint been without my vape either

That was me, and then I cut my nic down twice - the last time by another 6 mg and I didn't notice a thing. I used to think it was crazy when I read about people vaping 6 or 0 mg, but now I can see how it's possible.
