At my place
I ordered some 28gauge Kanthal A-1 to replace my current 32gauge NiCr wire. Or at least to try out different things. Usually, 5/4 wraps of 32gauge NiCr wire on a "doubled twice" 2mm silica (S-shape) gives me around 2.0 ohms. Let's say I want to have the same or a similar resistance with the 28gauge. How many wraps should I do? Thanks in advance.

I wrap all kinds and sizes of coils, usually never that high in resistance though tbh. It was just a guess to get you close, there are variables that come into play. You really just need to experiment some.

There is a program called the vapors toolbox (forgot about it before). Think it's only for android though but it is pretty handy, I believe a forum member here created it. There is also a google docs floating around with coils sizes and resistance. I just saw it posted and I'll try and track it down. Here

2mm isn't much bigger than 1/16, according to the vapors toolbox you need a 4 3/8 inch piece of 28 awg wire. With 1/8 inch legs you need a 13/12 wrap. With that long of wire and that thick, it will be slow to react.

Good luck and have fun
