I quit smoking not for health reasons, but because it was taking away from my savings. le sigh. yah that's what happens when you grow up and try to be more responsible. lol.

I budget my vape equipment (mechs, rdas, rebuilding supplies, batteries, etc.) on a yearly basis. (first year's the hardest spent $700 on equipment, stuff kept breaking, or I'd give away an ego to a friend to get them to quit cigs...) This year I budgeted $100 to $300 for equipment for the entire year. My new rule is to only buy when something breaks.

My juice has a separate month-to-month budget though. For my first year I spent $45-$60 per month on juice. Now that I know more or less what kind of juices I like (I am super picky) I am taking the big leap into diy juice so I am going to cut that down to $20-$30 per month (not including initial start up costs for a DiY starter kit). So I figure I will most likely spend around $400-$500 for 2015.

Even though I spent a LOT of money on vaping during my first year (between $1400-$1500). It would have cost me TWICE as much money to continue on smoking cigs for that year. I feel absolutely better health wise after over 15 years of smoking, I can go up a staircase and not heave and ho. This year my goal is to cut my vaping budget in half once again. My goal is to spend between $600-$800 this year on vaping.

Sorry this is such a long post, but I see a lot of folks on this site get shiny-itis, and with so much gear that they could have bought a nice car with that amount of money. If you can afford it, more power to you, but if you are going to spend your paycheck on gear, make sure you do it informed!

cheers and great thread! :2c:

I broke down how much I spent on tobacco (cigs, cigars, pipe tobacco, supplies) over the last 22 years and averaged it. Came out to nearly $3k a year, so I set my budget to that for the first year for hardware and liquids. I plan on knocking that down $400~500 a year for the until I stabalize at $1,200 a year.

In this first month I have spent about $1,500 but that includes mods (2 eVic-S, eGrip, Tesla VV/W), tanks (2x nautilus, 5x nautilus minis, 2x Delta 23, Atlantis, CoV Stratos), pile of coils (like over 100), DDA (over 30 of different brands), RDA (authentic Plume Veil, authentic Patriat V2, CLT V2+, X-Pure, CoV Aris, Octopus), rebuild material (organic cotten, Ecowool, wire in different gages, ribbon, tools, tester), power (stack of VTC4s, Nitecore D4 charger), DIY (100mg nic, gallon PG & VG, 40 flavors, addatives, sweeteners, menthol, koolada, bottles, etc), and 500ml of premium juice. Oh, and storage (pouches, cases, sleeve, pack).

My wife is a drug research scientist so I am getting my lab gear for "favors". I got over $1,500 on my "Want to try" list of juices though. I also want one of those not yet out Kanger Subtanks.

I actually spent more on tobacco in the last year since my average includes years before the tax spike and when I couldn't afford good cigars and pipe tobacco. So even if I spend a little over my $3,000 for the first year I am actually spending less money then I have been on tobacco. Now to get rid of the couple hundred bucks worth of cigars I got.

I'm coming up on 6 months now and have not kept specific track of what I have spent getting started and staying with it. Having said that, I am quite comfortable saying I have spent enough less then smoking that I used the savings to buy a fog machine for Halloween and virtual Santa for Christmas. And I still have a couple extra bucks burning a hole in my pocket.

What could be better then that?

Oh, crap! Disregard this prior message........

So I stop at my vape store (I only get there every couple months) to stock up on juice and that "couple extra bucks" got me in trouble. I got my juice and then some......and an Aspire Atlantis......and a ZMA 50 to put it on......and a couple 18650 batteries......and a 4 bay charger......and 5 extra coils. As it turns out, I have probably spent all the money I saved not smoking on vaping! The fog machine and virtual Santa are on me, but that's OK. I can consider those expenditures as a celebration of my 6 month anniversary for quitting the cigs, and I am good with that!

Good thing I am not going back for a couple months! But for now, I am a happy :vapor:

Hehe...I feel your pain. I thought I was done for a while after buying the Atlantis, Skeleton Key Clone, Batteries, D2Nitecore ect...at the local B&M a few weeks ago. However, stopped in Tuesday for a simple 510 connector for my ohm reader and got to talking to the b&M owner. Bad Idea. I mentioned I liked the Reo Woodvil, he mentioned he had one he doesn't use any more. Anyway, we agreed upon a decent price with the matching topper, lol. I just couldn't pass it up! My husband is either going to love me or hate me after this.

I'd spend a LOT less if they quit making new stuff!

But seriously, a few months ago I got a prepaid card JUST for vaping, I put $25 a week on the card, and then TRY to take a good, hard look at what I really need to get.

The release of the DNA40 and the Provari 3 did NOT help me stay on track. Please note that I said "try", lol.
