How do you DIY? Did you find formulas/recipies somewhere or do you test/create your own? Did you have to get a hundred different flavorings or do you know what your into enough that a dozen or so is good enough? I did see some info on this but it seems to get the right taste could be tricky and there are so many flavor options.
I have some science background (chemistry) so the lab work and what simple tools to buy was easy. I learned all of the rest on the DIY forum here at ECF. I'm one of a minority of vapers who prefers non-flavored juice, so my DIY job is fairly simple. You can learn everything about flavorings on the DIY forum.

This is fascinating, thanks for sharing, I can't even imagine at this point going to non-flavored juice and enjoying it, I seem to be on a kick now with sweet stuff, started out with tobacco-y juice. I am curious now how this would work for a day.

I sat down with my wife to set a reasonable budget and have stuck to it like glue. I'm not going to say I haven't begged once or twice for extra $$, but she stands her ground and I honor our agreement. Some months I spend less to save for the next month, most times we take the savings and have dinner out with the kids. I buy things one at a time, but order regularly so my supply of backups has grown considerably over time.
Another good rule I like to follow is that I treat every piece of equipment as if it were my last, regardless of how many are in my stash. I have 30+ coils for my EVOD but have been babying the original coils for over a month now. As long as you aren't hard on your gear, it will repay you in volumes.

Since January for me AND the wife:
2 Starter Kits from GreenSmartLiving $40 ($20/each) - Can't say I recommend these)
10 refill cartos for starter kit $24 ($12/per 5)
2 Smoktech Replacement Batteries $20 ($9.95/each)
10 Boge Cartos $12 ($6/per 5)
5 15ml bottles of e-juice $25 ($5/each)
2 30ml bottles of e-juice $15 ($7.50/each)
Extra flavoring $2
Misc car charging supplies for 2 cars $30
Shipping for what was ordered about $10
----------------------------------------
Total about $178 for two people in 3.5 months averages out to about $50/month.
We were smoking about $280 in analogs per month. I am happy with $220/month savings. :D

I'm not a fiddly, do-it-yourselfer kinda guy with this e-cig stuff, and I happen to like a premium juice. Even so I can get a 30ml bottle to last nearly 2 weeks, and replacement cartos for nearly that long as well.

I am not doing this on the cheap, and yet I'm still only spending roughly $7 a week to maintain. The guys that wind their own coils and mix their own juice will do it vastly cheaper than that. Either way it's still way less than buying a pack or more a day.

And I wrap my own coils with wicks for about .10 per coil vs. a $2-3 dollar per piece atty! LOVE rebuildables!

You have to look at the big picture.

For instance, in the last week I've spent:
$215 on hardware
And another $40 on juice...

Which seems like a ton of money...

But, I spent $5.50 a day on cigarettes, so in the long run, I'm still way ahead.

All totaled, I've spent about $1,500 vaping in the last 16 months... And saved $1000 vs smoking.

I also could have spent much less had I been able to convince my wife of the value of high end mods and rebuildable atomizers sooner and not had to repeatedly destroy cheaper, inferior products.

It's easy to avoid spending big bucks on vaping. Buy a good starter kit. You can easily research that on ECF. Try different juices from good vendors. Again ECF will help you with this. Don't get caught up in all the latest and greatest 'hot' vaping trends. Find hardware and juice that works for you and explore other things slowly, one or two things at a time.

I've been vaping for a year now. It's cost me at most $30 a week. If I had not made it a hobby, it would have been less.

For the most part I am interested in qutiting mainly for health reasons, but there was at one time a promise that you would also save money. There are so many vendors, products and E-liquids to try that it seems almost impossible to have a moderate budget.

I'm new to vaping too and face the same dilemma so it depends on your outlook i think. I have enough to get by, but another side of me likes gadgets.

I'm currently using an 808 with cartos and I am waiting for my vamo to arrive which will be my 'at home' vape piece. I am also waiting on additional juices to arrive as in Aus we face a nicotine availability dilemma (it's pretty much illegal to sell within the country). I can buy some juice locally (expensive as hell) so short term i get by.

As i mentioned earlier i like the gadget side of it. At some stage i will buy a few more mods probably at least one mechanical and get into the rebuildable side and will most likely try my hand at creating my own mods too. Aside from this, the main thing i try to remember is why I started vaping, which is to bin the smokes. The rest i can pursue (or not).
