What is that? I can't seem to find a real explination about it
I was curious and just looked it up -- doesn't look to bad really -- all store and manufacturers must register with the state and have about 1500 anual licensing expenses -- that really just a drop in the bucket -- the markup for ejuice is super crazy high... costs me 3 cents a ml to make at home buying supplies in small quanities -- and the b&m's sell juice for $1 a ml a lot of the time.

looks like it might limit local shops from selling out of state / non-locally licensed stuff though.

For me the most expence came from buying my mod, batteries, charger and attys (probably about £150) but that a 1 time expence really.

As for liquid i spend almost nothing, around £10 for 150ml which last me a long time.
Around £5 for a spool of kanthal which lasts almost forever, and around £2 for a bag of cotton balls that lasts almost forever too.

So after the initial outlay for mods, atty's ect. I spend very little really.

I don' t want to go through the list of how much, since I have bought quite a bit. I will say, however, that when I began, I budgeted myself for less than $40/month and stayed with it on AVERAGE. I was paying $29-$32/carton every 2 weeks... and that was on the cheap side. My initial startup was quite high, and I went through what I call "the typical route". I've found that many people follow the route I take.. first cigalikes, next ego's, next on to something more powerful. Cigalikes cost me the most, the Ego style pens reduced it quite a bit, but had a higher startup cost. For me to stay off, I'd want to go on to something more powerful, so a good VV/VW device, and that was the last nail in the smoking coffin.

from my experience, Cigalikes aren't strong enough to kick a smoking habbit, but they did turn me on to the idea of an alternative solution. Ego's I might have been able to fully quit, but I've always felt that I was missing something with them.. it was good, but not quite great. When I bought my Vamo, that was the end, and I would say I fully quit. The problem is, the mentality of smokers (including me) is that vaping gear is just too big to hold compared to a cigarette. I do remember looking at people's 22mm mods and saying "wow, that's big.. .I don't think I'll go that route"... well, guess what, I went that route...buying increasingly larger sizes as I went along.

The problem is, as a smoker, you're used to holding something light in your hand. Small batteries can only do so much, and a larger battery is truely needed. The most common battery in the ecig world is the 18650 format. Getting an ecig that requires an 18650 battery means you've overcome the "that thing is too big" syndrome. IF you can get over that hurdle, then you'll find vaping is a much cheaper alternative, and even more so if you rebuild the coils yourself.

In the last 3 months, I have bought a cloupor mini for $30, Subtank nano for $16 and juice for about $50. the three months prior, I just spent $50 for juice, and the three months prior to that, I've spent $89 for a Sigeli 100, $50 for juice, and a Squape-R. clone for $20. The further you go back, the more I've spent.. I've spent on trying one item or another. I haven't really looked at anything else since I got a cloupor mini to complement my Sigeli 100, and don't see buying any more hardware anytime in the near future. I bought Kanthal last year of varying sizes, and I am still on the same pack of organic cotton I got last year as well.

Yes, Some months I've went over my original $40/month budget, but some months I don't buy a thing. But on average, it's been under budget, and half of what I'd spend on regular cigarettes. Now, I have the gear that satisfies me, and I forsee spending even less in in the future. My advice...save and get a good powerfull enough device to keep you off of cigarettes, learn to rebuild yourself, and buy ejuice online if you're trying to go on the cheap.

Once you have a dependable vaping setup (along with a backup), your subsequent vaping expenses should be just for replenishing e-liquid . . . and maybe replacement coils/cartomizers if that is what you use. I learned to "rebuild". . . I make my own coils from wire and wick from cotton. This REALLY SAVES MONEY! A years supply of wire and cotton is around $10.

Wow, I'm still using my $4 bag of organic cotton from last year.. you really go through cotton quite a bit. :)

Part two would be the killer there

OK guys, time to fess up.
I started vaping a few weeks/months ago now. I love it. Vaping really is the answer.
I wouldn't go back to smoking cigarettes now if you paid me.
But, I am poor. Honestly poor. I live in the country on a tiny fixed income, basically other peoples "lunch money".
And its still costing me a fortune! I could have bought a 2 year supply of "Indian reservation" analogs for what I've spent so far, and I am combing for rock bottom prices all the time.
I found a wonderful, not really commercial dealer in Texas (sells off her dining room table) of all places, who treats me great!
Discounts on everything and free samples galore etc etc. So I'd never complain about her.
I am using single bottom coil tanks, drooling over twin coils, but what-am-I Rockefeller? Going from the standard 2ohm to 1.8ohm coils in a standard clearomizer makes a huge difference. If you are brand new at this try the lower ohm coils, trust me.
I made a dreadful mistake early on. I started with 650ohm batteries. These are just too small. No way they make enough vapor for anyone's satisfaction. Wasted money there. I find that 1100's at least sizzle the coil and don't cost hardly anything more. Once again if you are new and want to enjoy vaping, but not spend a lot of money? start with 1100's at least.
Some of the regular suppliers from the site here have sales!! I found a couple selling 10ml bottles of juice for 2 bucks apiece! 6 or 8 dollars for a 15ml bottle of juice just sucks!! Watch out for that. I stumbled across one I simply love. I ordered it along with some others (most of which I didn't like), and it turned out to be my total favorite of anything! Even better than Cosmic Fog's Milk and Honey, which is also great, but its very costly. I just ordered 8 more bottles. :) heh

So vapers, whenever I read the forum I keep reading buy this $200 worth of gear or that $225 and upgrade to this or that. Does anyone actually pay attention to how much money they are spending to vape? Or does it just seem like unfettered money spending from here?
Is there any really good hardware that doesn't cost hundreds of dollars?

And how much a month do you really spend? Add it up, be honest. :)
yours Scott
Mostly I use eLeaf GS Air by now, the tank is dirt cheap at 10 bucks. I spend about 100 in eliquid (mostly for stash), and 50 in heads, odds and ends. Rebuildables are a great thing, once you've made the first payment you'll be happily vaping for what it costs the wire and cotton. For newcomers it's a steep price to pay, but comparison shop. There are great mods for 30 bucks, great tanks for 10, great attys for 35, and the list goes on. Don't dispair, you can vape on the cheap, you just have to search more. For instance, on Fasttech there are liquids for 6 bucks the 50ml and so on...

More beginners need to know these things, and thanks to diligent researching, I skipped all that nonsense and began with the 18650-powered stuff. Thanks to people like you and others who drove these points home for me. Thank you.

Just started two and a half weeks ago and already spent over $500. Started with a crappy disposable fantasy ehookah and hated it. Tried a cloudv liquid with cheap lust ejuice and hated it. Got a kanger aerotank mini with ego battery and some atmos ejuice and it was getting better.

Finally got a kanger subtank mini with a kbox and some looper and was hooked. Now I have a Plume Veil clone, authentic Freakshow mini and Haze clone to drip and looper stays in the subtank.

Now I'm looking at getting some supplies for diy ejuice. Good times.

I did a lot of spending early on....chasing the "similar to smoking" experience. Once I got into an 18650 device, and started making my own juice, I dropped my vaping costs to nearly nothing. These days (been vaping almost five years) I'm settled into the mod I've been using for four years, make my own coils, make my own juice, and I spend less than a dollar (yes, $1) a month on vaping! The secret is to get to your end-game as early as possible. Try to avoid "shinyitis" as much as possible.

I haven't gotten to DIY juice yet, but I'm real close. I think it's hard for smokers to get to the "end-game" early, because the concept is just too different. I do believe in what you said though.. IF I started with a Sigeli 100, I'd be fine.

Seems like a good subject for a new thread.... I'll start one.

All of this cost about 3 months worth of smoking. It's considerably more attractive than 3 months of cig butts IMO...healthier, tastier and funnerer.
I could have about 2500 Morley Medium butts or this (inc. batteries, accessories & juice)

Provari 2.5 w with Russian 91% w*rk table mod
Subox for toss in the pocket to hike or shop or...
Ti P3 with Subtank mini end-game reliable
SX mini M class with Arctic .2Ω works great @ ~50W
IPV3 Li with Velocity .35Ω @ 85W flavor chaser

Liquid H2O with frozen chunks - hydrate or die.

EXCELLENT visual representation, @Mowgli. I love it.

And I'm at the point, still having spent almost exactly 50% of what I would have smoked away, that I could go approximately 14 months without spending a single penny.

But I've no such intentions. You used the word "fun". Yep - it sure is!
