Unless I'm mistaken, it shouldn't affect it virtually at all. The electrical current will take the path of least resistance, and since only the top of the mod is patina'ed, or oxidized, the copper underneath it should be what's doing most of the conducting.

I guess the increased drop should only be in the <0.1V ballpark.

^Agreed. It would seem to me like mods would be designed to carry the current through the inside of the tube, if not directly through the battery(ies) to the heating unit. If the charge transferred to the outside casing of the tube, you'd probably have a few problems, electrocution being one of them.

So as stated above, if the patina affects the current at all, which is highly unlikely, the distortion would be negligible.

The patina process can if your not careful damage the threads and that could affect performance. I don't have any data. Don't have the equipment to measure things that small. If you do it right it's just an outer layer that is affected. The surface area is far less than the surface area of the contacts. But if you mess up the threads it could. So don't do that. I have two mods done. One a Copper hades and a #19. When i get some new chems in I will be doing my magneto. Tricks you can use to protect the threads are to paint them with Elmer's Glue add wash it off or peal it off later. Make sure the top and bottom are either clear coated or masked and leave them on. The paint on patinas are a little more forgiving. If you us the fume method then you really have to protect them. To sum up you lose more in the contacts than in the small amount of surface area you are changing.

I've done two brass nemesis and I don't have any added vdrop, I didn't patina the top cap BC the pin setup inside, also I wanted it to accent the tubes.

I put lots of vasaline in the threads then hit them with a wire wheel on my dremel to make them perfect.

The one on the left has a hybrid adapter and clear vinyl wrap, it's been on for a couple weeks (the vinyl) and works well but I can see its dulling a bit due to the glue in the vinyl I guess. Also you can see the seam is noticeable with the vinyl.
