I have used nic from multiple suppliers, and I have found the nic from nudenicotine.com to be the best. I buy 100mg and 100% VG. I then make a base of 36mg and 100% VG. Store it in the freezer and use the 36mg base to mix in my juice at 6mg. My mixes are all max VG, the only PG comes from the flavoring. Be very careful with the 100mg nic NOT to get it on your skin. It can cause illness or death from nicotine poisoning.

I'm not trying to scare you, but use caution.

People react differently to (ETA 100mg) concentrated nic. Personally, I can pool one ml or so in the palm of my hand and get no reaction. Some people report a mild burning sensation. I have yet to hear of anyone getting seriously sick or dying from casual contact. Or any contact at all, except maybe one or two reports of young children getting into it. Just like they get into other household cleaners and such that they shouldn't. So keep it secure if you have small children.

It is more toxic than tap water but a lot less toxic than arsenic. Some people may overstate the toxicity. Don't bathe in it, or use it as a skin emollient. Don't drink it. Treat it as carefully as you would household bleach and you will be fine. It is a good idea to use nitril gloves until you know your own sensitivity to it.

ETA: I as well as a few others here vape 50mg. I only do it on occasion, sort of like shots of adult beverages, and when I do I drip it at 10-20W. I've never tried vaping higher (no reason, 50mg is harsh enough!).

There may be some long term benefits to either PG or VG. VG because it may have less oxygen in it. PG because it is thinner, mixes easier, and has antibacterial properties. I split the difference and buy 100mg in 50/50 :)

I would suggest buying the highest concentration you are comfortable with. it is cheaper, easier to store, and takes up less space in the freezer where it should be stored. Buy tinted glass bottles (amber or cobalt blue) with polycone caps for long term storage in or out of the freezer. Because the availability of nic is so uncertain, given the inevitable and upcoming FDA interference, you will surely be shortly stockpiling like many of us here.

Another advantage of 100mg is that the PG/VG mix it is in becomes less important. And your preference may change over time. For example, if you vape 6mg and have 100mg 50/50 then you are only altering the final mix of PG or VG by 3%. If you are diluting 24mg down to 6mg then you are diluting by 12%. I came to enjoy highest possible VG mixes, so that helped to minimize the PG, most of which comes from flavoring. But if I make unflavored I can make 6mg mixes that are 97% VG. You could do the same with a high PG mix if you prefer that, minimizing VG.

I started with a half liter bottle of 24mg nic and a liter of 100mg nic. I figured I would get comfortable working with the 24mg (think training wheels). After one or two mixes I started using 100mg and slowly worked down the 24mg. The 24mg was a good confidence builder, purely for psychological reasons. Also, I was probably vaping 18-24mg when I first started DIY. You're not the only one that might be weirded out over this "highly toxic" talk.

Good advice, thank you. Think I may get two at different concentrations like you and build up my confidence. Perhaps a smaller 48 or 24mg and a larger 100mg.

It's a good idea to use small bottles of concentrated nic (regardless the concentration) for day to day working use. Then you keep only one small bottle out of the freezer, at room temps, while the rest stays untouched in the freezer until needed. Some people might break up a liter into 33 x 30ml bottles, or 10 x 100ml bottles. I do something different where I would break up my first liter into a 500ml, 250ml, and 8 30ml bottles. When the 30ml bottles are exhausted (a year or many more from now) the 250ml bottle is redistributed and then down the road the 500ml bottle can be redistributed. The idea is to minimize the opening and warming of the bottles, applying as much OCD to the process as you feel necessary :)

Just for your confidence... a lot of vape suppliers used to sell 36mg nic, which is what people started with. So a 48mg concentration is not much more than what people were inhaling all day long. High nic is now out of style, shops seemingly preferring to sell low nic juice and high wattage devices. But the change was not for any demonstrated safety issues, more like marketing issues and just customer trends. I'm trying to thread a needle to explain the relative "safety" of that nic level.
