My gf, her son, 3 of her nieces and I are on the road right now heading up to a cabin for the weekend. About 45 minutes ago we got pulled over for going 75/70. There were two cops coming up to the car and in my lap was my itaste mvp with my protank on it along with my cellphone (I'm in passenger seat). The lady cop shines her light in the car and asks me what "that thing" is, pointing at my mvp. I explained it in layman's terms, but she took it from me and my license, even though I wasn't driving.

So they both go back to their patrol cars with our info and my ecig, which honestly at this point was in dire need of a vape. 30 mins later... Yes 30 mins... They come back and make me explain my device thoroughly, which I oblige. She asked if I had a bottle and I said yes and showed it to her. She didn't like that there was no label (I fill a blank bottle from a 120 ml) but I told her if she simply smelled it she would experience raspberries, lol. After a few minutes she finally mustered the courage to smell it and she's like "hmm I DO smell raspberries". They let us off the hook, and told me that people use devices like mine with illegal substances (is that really a thing?) so they hoped I understood. Weird night...

TLDR: if you get pulled over, hide your pv.

I wanted to make this longer but I'm typing it on my phone since I wanted to share this immediately. Haha

Unfortunately there are devices out there for illegal substances. We can't talk about those substances here.
Look at it as you've just educated a couple of police officers. I vape openly while driving, if I get pulled over great. I have all the time in the world to deal with it. So far several officers have seen me vaping and don't give me a second look.

Like a lot of people, I do my share of Internet surfing, and I have yet to come upon an article that shows "a device like yours used with illegal substances".
Where are these articles? Someone post a link to one, please. I'd really like to see a device like my Zmax used to smoke illegal substances. I guess maybe I should throw it away and turn to something legal, like analogs--you know, something approved by law enforcement.

Don't have a link, but you can walk into any "smoke shop" and many vapers' B&Ms and see them. Here in California they're willing to discuss them pretty openly with you. The ones I've seen look similar to many of the mods I've seen on vaping websites.

As long as you're not "riding dirty", you've got nothing to worry about except wasted time, both yours and the cops. And yes, you did educate them.

I'm really getting sick of hearing the term "hookah". Been hearing it more and more lately. It's not a hookah. From what I remember a hookah being, it was a pipe with four hoses extending from the top. What I vape does not look like a giant pipe with four hoses extending from the top.

I think we have more to fear from the "illegal substance" people using e-cigs and constantly making references to them as such, than ANTZ and the FDA. It's those people who're going to slander this the most. Grrr.

Not really.

It is extremely, EXTREMELY rare that anyone would carry a PV for illegal substances.

This kind of thing doesn't surprise me though, in the USA we are pretty close to a police state unfortunately. It gets worse and worse every year.

That piece on Faux News about Hookah Pens is just going to make things worse.

There needs to be a stronger effort to educate the public about PVs, and ecigs.

It is propaganda. I can't believe people in these forums are buying into that.

I also vape openly in my car, and I have been worried about what people might think. I worry someone is going to think it's illegal and call the cops on me. I have convinced myself that at least I would have a chance to educate someone. I was sitting my car tonight, while hubby ran into 7-Eleven to buy a lottery ticket. I was vaping. A woman standing outside the store SMOKING was staring at me vaping, like I was doing something illegal. I wanted to go up to her and offer her a try! I mean, she was shooting me these dirty looks! I wish there was a card or something I could give to people. Oh, shout out to Mt. Baker Vapors for sending me some of their cards with my order....looks like I'm gonna need 'em! :)

Unfortunately, it is going to be that way , at least here in the States (not sure how it is elsewhere) for at least a few years, hopefully not a decade!

The reason being is because 1) The war on drugs has everyone paranoid, 2) How the USA has become over the past 50 years (as I mentioned in a post above), and 3) because of how new ecigs are 4) because of the propaganda put out by those with opposite agendas (they don't want ecigs cutting into their profits/being unregulated)

We have a battle on our hands, and an INFO campaign, and spreading awareness is our only real tool

ECF has cards, I just don't have the link handy, use search to see what's involved in getting some.

My wife works at the sheriffs office and so far ive converted 2 people to vaping, one detective one jailor! Now if I could just convert the wife but thats another story. Anyway, I carry a pistol so I'd imagine if I were pulled over they'd be more interested in that than my mvp but I will now carry a backup PV though in case mine is held for questioning! ;D

Sorry your experience was negative, you must understand that police are lied to constantly and have heard all the excuses, you can imagine why they might be suspect of you and your "vaporizer" filled with "oil"... cheers and happy vaping , hopefully the next vaper they pull over will be treated not as a criminal!

It's easier to educate if we have our own facts straight. The piece on Hookah Pens wasn't on Fox News. It was on a local Fox Broadcasting channel. You know, like NBC and CBS have local channels that cover news. Fox Broadcasting does, too. It's not the same as Fox News. There is nothing about hookah pens on Fox News channel's website. Your local NBC station isn't the same as MSNBC and your local Fox station isn't the same as Fox News.

Well outside of the time involved I don't see this as an entirely bad experience though we may be getting the abridged version of things (get one of those smartphones that tablet sized and will never fit a humans pocket so you can type more).

I can understand the cop being curious. especially if they have been told that PVs are used for "other" recreational activities. But really half an hour seems a bit much. Sounds like ya stayed cool and we able to educate some people which is cool.

Every time I vape on the street and a cop drives by I notice that cops slow down when they pass me by. I had one good experience with a local officer, but the cops around me have a reputation for being on the "giving cops a bad name" side of things so we will see how it goes in another one stops me in this area.

I am sure there are some people who have found ways to use PVs creatively, and it's something we we have to look out for as we fight for our rights to vape.
