How old is too old for flavorings?

So some time ago I was able to purchase some TFA flavorings from a B&M (everything he had) and shared with a friend some of this large hall.
He had the same good fortune recently...local guy quit making juice and sold off everything he had to him. SO he shared with me.

This time everything is FlavorWest flavors.
I have read the FW thread and know that most people mix in the 12-15% range.

Some of the flavors born on date are from 2013. AND I realy have no idea how this person stored or cared for his flavors.

Long story short, made a small batch...14% butterscotch 7% Irish cream and it actually taste rancid!
Neither of these flavor smell off in their bottles.

I really was hoping to play with these as I aquired some new flavors I didn't have.

Should I just throw out if they are older than say 1 yr... ???
I am using older TFA, and just finished off some nic that was a yr old in Feb. Have never had anything before taste this OFF!

Flavorings are not just for the young. You will enjoy flavorings even if you are 110 years old, unless Alzheimer's has robbed you of your sense of smell.

I have many flavorings as old as 3 years and there still good. Natural flavoring are the exception. I would say no more then 6 months on those.

I have some TFA and FA from early 2014, still using with no problems.

The thought of these going to waste/trash makes me crazy. I really hate to throw things away that could be used, and if not by me...somebody.

This lot was mostly 8 and 16oz. bottles, of course most had been opened and used.....but some were FULL!!!

I guess I will just try smaller than usual for me test batches and bite the bullet and trash what seems off.

I've got some 3 year old flavors....they got that old 'cause I never use them. If I like a flavor a bottle doesn't last me long enough to spoil. My tobacco extracts are another matter six or seven months tops.
But I'm still learning this craft, and maybe I should look at whether my flavorings are Alcohol, VG, or PG based. I'm pretty sure that that would make a big difference in shelf life.

I have some NET tobaccos from GoodEjuice, and they still taste fine after 14 months. Their method of extraction is somewhat different from others, one reason they clog my coils less than others. Also had NET's from Heather's heavenly vapes, and they tasted fine after 12 months.

Most manufacturers say 6 months to 1 year but no matter the age if it taste rancid I would not trust it.
I think you are right and it depends on a lot of factors other then the age, like storage and contents of the flavor - natural versus artificial.
I always transfer mine to glass bottles because I found they had much shorter shelf life if left in the plastic ones no matter who the mfg was of them with both the natural and artificial flavorings and I keep them in a cool dry dark location. I have artificial flavors that are still good well over a year later.

Its such a catch 22!
When I purchased my lot from the B&M, it was all moslty unused, in glass and still in the box it was shipped in and 30ml sizes.

These are HUGE for me....8 and 16 oz. I will never need these amounts for personal use.
Plus I have NO experience with FlavorWest flavors.

BUT I started to DIY so that I knew what was in my juice and had control....I have no idea how these were stored or if cross contaminated.....UGH!!!
Its the throwing away/waste factor thats making me most crazy!!!!

I use a lot of FW and I find 12% a good place to be on a lot of flavors. I am not one to like a big crush of flavor in my juice. By any chance did you get any Kahlua, Butter Pecan or French Vanilla?

No, none of those flavors. Actually I do have some FW experience....just started making my Mom some Butter Pecan single flavor mix at 17.5%...I forgot about that one, she uses so little I don't make it often. But I think that is the only FW I used besides FW creame de menthe. I liked tfa CdM better.

Kind of funny, I have about 25 FW flavors and the only one that is on your list is Peanut butter and I hardly use it. I tried the banana nut bread but liked TFA better. Oh, actually I have the coconut and just mixed it once or twice. I just mixed it with some sweet cream and a little custard. That was pretty good. I have the regular caramel and I will mix it with some hazelnut and cream for a nice blend. I have a couple of friends who use the FW butter pecan as their ADV. Usually 12-15%.

Well like I mentioned above, this was a shared deal.
My friend received many more flavors than I've listed and brought me the remainder to go thru. By no means am I looking a gift horse in the mouth, I am very appreciated he shared anything with me.

Heres hoping I can use and not waste and share juice with friends.



Oh yeah, my Mom loves the Butter Pecan...started at 12 and moved to 15 and she settled in at 17.5%
She purchased a seasonal Butter Pecan from a b&m last fall and the only butter pecan flavor I found was FW, but everytime I tried to order it was OoS. Finally got my hands on some recently with an order. Was really hoping he had a bottle of that flavor
