How sweet are flavor concentrates?

OK, first test run done: 4 empty containers (empty plastic "mini-bar bottles) each with 2 ml VKK. Mixed berry, lemon and chai tea... 6 drops each. Last bottle apple pie 6 drops, pumpkin spice 3 drops, graham cracker 3 drops. After a few days "steeping" will try just a bit of each on the rda (fresh cotton for each one) then just for kicks going to mix them all together (I do crazy things like that) Oh, almost forgot... after trying the apple pie combo, going to add some premade green apple juice also.
I will not be surprised if your "everything at once" has very muted flavor, but best of luck with that.

I understand about muted flavor, but also have looked at many recipes that use similar combinations already. Doesn't matter, total combo will be less than 8 ml so don't care if it's a waste. I know it's silly to smell flavor concentrates, but I did notice the graham cracker was more like a cereal than the "buttery crust" version... should go well with the apple pie, just hope I didn't overdo the spice. The chai tea smelled great (I know... all meaningless) I already have some VG, so just need PG and some nicotine and will start over correctly... step by step. Gotta go shake my little test bottles (going to wait a couple days... I know I need to be patient, but need a quick preview) You probably thinking... darn newbie, doing everything wrong!

Haha, no worse than me. I still do things in a slightly unorthodox manner from time to time. And no, smell tests aren't useless, completely. Knuckle tests are good too, for things. The nuance of what give what valid information will become more and more apparent.
You should taste your juice right away too.
Have you input your flavor stash into ELR yet? The "what can I make" button is fun, and you can allow for a missing flavor or three, to see what you might like to pick up next.

Is this so I can make changes (if needed) and then steep? Actually playing with the quad flex kit right now... will test juices tonight.
More data is always better than less. If something is capable initially, but "sours" over time, that is valuable Intel.

When I first install the clapton coil that came with the kit I'm suuposed to do a couple "dry burns". How hot should I get the coil (red, orange, yellow)? It's hard to tell from watching videos... camera works different than out eyes. Also, When I re-wick should I do a dry burn?
Ideally, no more than an even glowing red. That will take patient, low wattage pulsing. Think electric stove top, but not even quit as red as they can get., But close.

Got it... short even pulses of red hot, but not more. I'm a photographer, so know about the differences between camera and eye perception... can be very different. No need to "cook it" too much.
It's been quite a day (too much to explain) but don't mean to delay (how ironic... I guess the samples got to steep a bit anyway)

Could be. I had a bit of a day too. Only real vape related portion is, I think my cat took my quad flex. So I have to locate that before continuing my MTL ventures.

I did stop by a vape+ shop, and picked up a custard. Not Vaptasia, but one I sampled that they had in 0 nic that I find quite pleasant. If not a tad sweet, but to be expected to allow butterscotch to taste as it should.
It's by pour house, which is an offshoot from bread. It's called butter bean, but also has a cinnamon note too.
My suggestion for you, when you get PG/VG, make small bottles of SFT, then add a few drops of Vaptasia. I've forgotten how over flavored commercial juice is. It takes me more than several squonks to clear the wick of this stuff, when normally it's a two squonk situation.

Oh, and apparently FA guava and this custard make sweet smoked paprika flavor. Go figure.

I wish I liked custard vape... I loved custard as a kid, ate gallons of it and likely set myself up for the lactose intolerance I have now, soya custard doesn't get me there somehow. 8(

I've tried it a few times, after the last trial a year or so ago that still resulted in a yuk response I tossed the coil & cleaned the tank with alcohol several times but could still smell it. I have the tank in a ziplock now and don't open it. Or maybe I tossed it, I don't want to look!

What the hell is in custard flavourings that make them so cloying?! Is it a cream or vanilla perhaps?

My suspicion, after enjoying several commercial custards, and despising most of them, as well as sampling more than a few flavor concentrate creams, custards, vanillas, milks, avocado, soy, rice, and anything else in that profile, is the vanilla, and some milk notes. They seem to have this acetone quality that, unless blended properly with similar notes, and smudged under other flavors, such as cinnamon, can be abrasive, and potentially repulsive, if the pallet isn't sufficiently fooled.

Have you tried rice milk custard? As a lactose free food? I would think that that would be, if made properly, quite delectable.

ETA: @stratus.vaping it could also be settings related. These flavors generally require specific temperature range, so air flow and wattage could drastically alter things too. But if the knuckle test is replusive, then I doubt the vape would be better.

Sniffing the bottle or on the hand is indeed repulsive. I'm inclined to agree about acetone, there's something there for me that shouldn't be. Maybe the vanilla.

I tootlepuff DTL at 10-15W sometimes 20W depending on the setup ofc. Do you think that would emphasise the nasty notes whilst muting the others?

I'm not going to try it again btw!

Rice milk... I have made almond milk custard, not very good for me, maybe I'll try Rice, thanks!

The wattage is far less a factor than air. If it's a restricted, cartomizer style air, potentially too hot. If the smell and knuckle test are off, than I doubt it'd be better in a vape.

Very open DTL, always in rotation are a Cubis Max with an Ultex T80 and more recently a Pico Squeeze 2. So usually lots of air.

I won't bother to try again, not on one of my devices anyway. Thanks for the help.

Hmmm, I find they do best in the 430-480°F range. Not sure how to achieve that in a disposable tester.

About custards... I actually love Vapetasia because of the vanilla. I have this other one I got from subscription that has a "pecan" flavor, but just tastes like butterscotch to me (and it's got too much PG for me and bothers my throat) I guess everyone does has a different palette. It's kind of like those 99 proof flavored booze... banana, berry, peppermint, cinnamon. Most people like the banana, but I like cinnamon (although it's overpowering) but would rather just have a subtle amount in a vape juice. With fruits I like "real" fruit flavors (not candy) so even though I love watermelon, green apple and cherry, I don't like the "candy" flavors. I want to try a juice called black and blue (berries) that is supposed to have a real berry flavor... forgot the brand though.

Cap vanilla custard, both v1 & 2, TFA vanilla bean ice cream, and other flavor concentrates of the sort, are quite distinctly chemical vanilla. This tends to fade after a month+ of steeping, but once you know what to look for, it's still detectable.

Also, found the quad flex, cat didn't get it. I still can't work single wire 28ga. I did get a double coil MTL build in it though.
