I want to jump into this one, but in a diplomatic way, not defensively. How would you respond?

From a friend on FB (who doesn't know that I smoke/smoked/vape)

vaping is sissy smoking. Either quit smoking or smoke real cigarettes. Ideally, don't hipster vape near me outside of Starbucks while I am literally reading about teaching patients about risk factors for chronic lung disease and lung cancer. I do not understand vaping AT ALL.

Unfortunately you can't argue with ignorance, it will fall on deaf ears. These people only see what they want to see and no matter what you say they will swear it's just as dangerous as cigarettes.

I refuse to waste my breath on stupid people or else their stupidity may rub off on me. :w00t:

My only response would be the "hide post" option. Someone making a statement like that doesn't want to learn and any effort to educate them would fall on deaf ears.

Or, if you feel like you HAVE to say something, you could just post a link to this forum and tell them to educate themselves a little bit before running their trap.

I would be concerned that your friend is reading about how to educate people about lung disease whilst holding the view that people should continue to smoke rather than vape.

Exactly! Luckily I was not the only one to jump in and defend vaping as harm reduction. She's backed down a little bit. I can understand the irritation of someone chucking clouds in your immediate vicinity, but to say that she would rather people smoke just baffled me.

Someone at Starbucks is calling us "hipster" o_O
I have a friend who's an RN, former smoker, presently vapeing. She's also converting her fellow nurses, many of whom smoke. She is well educated in the medical field and clearly sees the benefit. But then again, she doesn't spend her time sipping over priced coffee and criticizing what she clearly doesn't understand. Just MO, ignore it, move on. You have to pick your battles, and life's to short.
