Another product recommendation...

Being vapers, we are all used to working with and having 18650 batteries and chargers. Here's a flashlight I bought early this year that takes 18650s and it has been an excellent purchase. I bought a 2-pack (it cost only $3 more than a single). It uses both regular AAA batteries and 18650s. I use it with 18650s as I have tired of eating up those little expensive AAAs. This thing is bright and I like that I can change the beam diameter. Solidly built for the $$. I got the one with a magnet on the .... end for sticking to metal stuff. Handy when working on the truckster and many other things. They make many variations. This happened to be the one I wanted. Lots of good flashlights out there these days that run on rechargeable 18650s.

That would work too. Just gotta match the dowel width to the hole. Not many people have dowel rod around but they do have toothpicks. :) But yes, a dowel would be even better.
I use wooden matches. Just stick them in, and break them off at the end of the hole. I have boxes sitting around for the fireplace.

It was dry enough to use the mower for an extended time. I wish that I had eliminated the that RIO switch nine years ago. It is a great fix, give it some thought. It makes the machine much easier to use.

He, he ... I was thinking about it today. My property is 3+ acres with lots of tree to mow around. Every time I pulled the dang switch I thought of your post.

That was one of the prime reasons that I did it. Lots of trees led to lots of frustration.

I have a question about using Tarus. Our house has a roofed deck/porch around about 3/4 of it. The deck is is around 15 - 20 feet elevated. Should I use the perimeter of the porch to trench or use the foundation of the house for the trench? The deck supports are set in concrete and a roof covers the whole thing. There is a French drain under the deck, no gutters. The rest of the house has gutters.

The AC went out again and they won't come out for over a week. Also, the above ground pool wall collapsed so I need a new pool and they can't install for 2 or 3 months. I had guests for the week and, of course, the pool went phooey in the middle of it. Sigh.... I wish I could fix stuff.

Yeah I imagine hvac folks are pretty busy. Even though I have the highest level service plan it takes my guys over 24hrs to come. Then they diagnose and never have the parts they need in stock so I wait a week for delivery and fix. I broke down and purchased a portable ac unit now for backup. Even tho they just got mine running in time for the heat wave I ran the portable also and it was nice in here. Hope you get fixed soon.

Thanks and would you believe I sold 3 portables when I moved cross country? Didn't think I would need them but I think I will buy another one. In reality, I could go upstairs where there is a separate unit but I don't have anything to do up there except read and I just haven't done it. May have to as the dogs are miserable.

Go around the foundation. I would also trench around the concrete supports. Post a picture if you can. Gives a better idea.

That's a good idea to have a window unit or portable as a backup. I have one too. Knock on wood I haven't needed it in 20+ years but I did before that and it was a godsend. At least I could keep the bedroom cool for sleeping.

We got a lot of rain yesterday and of course the gutters were clogged. I clean those at least four times a year but I could do it 25 times a year and it wouldn't be enough. Been wanting to do gutter guards for years but never had faith they would work unless you paid $3,000 for the gutter helmets. But recent research is making me feel more confident in some of these DIY designs including the ones that were recommended on this thread earlier. I would have installed them by now except I refuse to work on the roof in this ghastly heat and humidity.

Does anyone keep and inventory of parts in stock, I am beginning to think not. "Just in time" delivery has taken over but it's rarely just in time for me.

They keep some of the basics in stock. Of course wiring and connectors and even capacitors in most cases. Some have compressors they keep in the shop for the more popular models. Beyond that they don't have crap.
