I agree with what Fido says. My experience mirrors this. I still go to the "smoking pit" at work to Vape because of the social connection and the need to get away from my desk. But, I really don't want a cigarette and am annoyed by the smell. When I started with my e-cig, I had an open pack with 15 cigs in it. I think in that first 24 hours I smoked 2. And, then over the next few days I had 1 every morning. Then it went to 2 days between having one. Then 5 days. Each time I smoked a cig, it tasted nastier. Anyway, on April 15 (two weeks after starting), there was 1 left in that pack sitting on the kitchen counter. I started to throw it away, but thought "No, let's try it and see how bad it is now?" I took three drags off of it and each one literally gagged me. That's it! I'm done with cigarettes. I do admit, I had two unopened packs that I threw in the freezer for "just in case." But, I know I will go buy a disposable e-cig at the convenience store now before I will get into those in the event I somehow find myself suddenly without access to my e-cigs.
There have been a few instances where I think I want a cig, but I realize it is not the cigarette I want, but the scenario. For instance, I thoroughly enjoyed sitting on my back porch at night after the kitchen was cleaned up and all other chores were done and smoking a couple of cigarettes before going to bed. That was my wind down routine. Now, I just use the e-cig while I listen to the crickets!
I was a pack a day, 30+ year smoker. Every previous attempt to quit smoking lasted less than 24 hours. The fact that I was able to get off cigs so fast with so little discomfort still amazes me. I went to my doctor on the day I could honestly say it has been 2 weeks since I had smoked a cigarette and she was thrilled. She told me I was her 5th patient to report that e-cigs had successfully helped me quit and said she would now start offering that suggestion to her other patients that smoke.
Hang in there! You'll make it. And, congratulations!
