I've traveled by plane a couple times with my box mod, just put them in your carry on and pack the batteries separate in a safe container, I've never been hassled by airport security doing this.

Also, it is a good idea to remove your batteries from your mod when you're flying even though the FAA doesn't explicitly tell you to do so. There is always a chance, however small, that something could go very catastrophically wrong with your mod and an airplane is one of the worst places for that to happen

Liquids Rule

The TSA rules on liquids also apply to e-liquid.

As for the mods, take the batteries out (or if fixed, ensure it's off). Toppers, if empty, nothing needed. If you're carrying them with liquid in 'em, leave room for liquid expansion (putting them in a ziplock bag is probably a good idea, just in case).

I'm not talking about the carry-on. I am concerned with what I put in my checked bag. Since I am going for a long time, the tools are needed.

I was looking for someone who had put items (vaping) in their checked bag and what their experience was. Not an opinion. But thanks all the same.

I carry a small rebuilding kit in my checked bag (scissors, wire, coiler, multi tool, etc.). About half the time when I unpack, there is a notice from TSA that they opened my bag for inspection. Never had anything missing. I've also packed juice in my checked bag without issue. The only thing that I'm aware of that is strictly prohibited in checked bags are batteries. Good luck on your travels.

BTW: I fly about 12-15 times a year, and have been carrying my Vape gear with me for 2-1/2 years.

Just back from Dubai. Brough an EGO Battery in my hand luggage and several clearomizers in my checked bag along with the juices all in my toilet bag (in ziplocks). In Dubai I bought an Istick Pico and some more juice. Traveled home with the batteries in my carry on and everything else in checked luggage. No questions asked anywhere. Several others who attended the conference brought ecigs in carry on travelling from Belgium and France and they also walked straight through. One of them was even vaping away at the luggage belt i Dubai :)

Ah, so the mods by themselves are also prohibited?

From the way they worded it it I would say yes, keep them with you for security reasons. Anymore you could get held up for hours for no good reason if you pack them in your checked baggage.

Alright. Thank you for the replies. I'm just worried to have anything taken, as it's certainly not cheap! I'm going to Alaska and that's the main thing I'm worried about. Alaska is a bit more strict with ecigs so I'm just a bit on edge.

I have always carried my batteries in battery cases in my carry on. I have put devices in my checked baggage but never any with batteries in them.

I use to travel a lot internationally never had any issues except for once, I was told to take my device apart, reassemble it and vape it.

I had two friends that were not allowed to take their batteries with them because they didn't have proper cases to store them in.

So when bringing my batteries through security it's required to have them in a battery case? (I mean, that certainly makes sense for safety reasons.)

I can't say for certain that every airport requires it but JFK and Duelles do check it. Batteries stick out big time on X-ray machines. 99 cent case can save you a huge headache :)

I wouldn't have time to order a battery case, so do you know anywhere that sells them? I mean, vape shops obviously but do you know if places like Walmart or anything of the sort sells them?

a mod with no battery is just a box which is of no interest to security

'These devices are battery powered and have a heating element that vaporizes liquid (that may or may not contain nicotine). These devices are prohibited in checked baggage and may only be carried in the aircraft cabin (in carry-on baggage or on your person).'

This applies to the mod plus the battery imho. I dont see how it could be interpreted any other way. Much of this wording and the regs themselves is/are outdated and apply mainly to cigalikes etc I think...For many airlines, any batteries have to be installed in the device and the device switched off for example...Spare batts in a proper case should be fine.

When I flew from Puerto Rico to the Dominican Republic last week (19 June 16), went through US customs and TSA - no problem. However, returning today from the Dominican Republic (DR) - security confiscated my MVP and clearomizer. They said that electronic cigarettes were not allow to be on a plane leaving the DR. When I asked the supervisor to define electronic cigarette - he couldn't or wouldn't give me an answer. I told him that I did not have an electronic cigarette because I did not have any cigarette substances in my vape. My device does not have any nicotine - just menthol for my aroma therapy. And that the battery was just that, a battery. I showed him the USB port and the output switch that I used to charge my cell phone - which also had a battery in it. I did tell him that if he wanted to confiscate the clearomizer, I would not have a problem with that - they can keep the 3 mils of the menthol only juice. But he would not budge so - he kept everything. I really wanted to break it so no one else could use it - but he wouldn't let me - so I accused him of stealing from me without proper authority. My wife grabbed my arm and said to leave quickly before I was thrown in jail. So I would say - if you want or must go to the DR take the cheapest disposable vape gear with you - knowing that you won't be able to leave the country with it. Don't plan on buying it there - it's way too expensive.

Looking for any update/experience on this for travel inside the U.S.

Reading this thread, and others, I currently understand that everything goes in the carry-on. But,

- batteries are removed from the mod and stored in a plastic battery case
- Any extra batteries are stored in a plastic battery case
- No juice in toppers
- Max amount of juice in carry-on and in labelled bottles is ????.
- Mod and toppers in zip-lock bag or separate bags ????. I will have 2 mods and 4 RTAs.

I will have new new coils in each topper, but wick will be in toiletries bag since they look like make-up application pads. Mini scissors and Kanthal wire will be in checked bag and separate from each other.

Thanks
