I bought some LG HG2's off of eBay and although they are wrapped with the typical brown wrap the battery info is on a label stuck to the battery. This is different then all of my other HG2's.

Secondly, My D4 says it's fully charged, so I put it in my mod and although it displays fully charged, when I hit the fire button the battery display goes blank. or empty. Unlike my other HG2's, When fired the display goes down, but not blank...

How can I tell if these are true LG HG2's and not just wrapped in a brown wrapper?

The guy seems to sell a boatload of these and was a 99.5 positive seller....

You kinda have the Big 3 when it comes to a Knock-Off products.

1 - Purchased from a place Known to sell Many Counterfeits.
2 - Branding that Doesn't quite match a Genuine Product.
3 - Sub-Standard Performance.

I would be Leery of using those batteries.

I considered this, however, 99.5 Positive feedback says a lot of an eBay seller...Especially when he has like 13,000 Feedbacks....

It may be the D4, I have had it plugged into the usb charge cable now for 2 hours and it seems it be fine.

The Problem with e-Bay is that Many Times the Seller believes that He/She is selling an Genuine Product. And if they Felt/Knew that something was Fake, they Wouldn't sell it.

But they Don't Know. Because someone Scammed them when they sold them a Case of Batteries.

I'm not Say'n that this is what Happened. I'm not even say'n that the Batteries you have are Knock-Off's. But from what it sound like, it sounds like they are.

I don't know of a any Fool Proof way to tell by just looking at it. Because for about Anything that an OEM does, there will be a Person who can/will Copy it.

It is Easier to ask if a Battery is Probably Fake vs. Is a Battery Genuine.

If I got a Battery Off e-Bay, and the Branding Looked Different from what I believe is Genuine, and when I used the Battery, Funky Things happened, then I would think it is a Very Good Case that the Battery I have is an el-Fake-O.

I'd say just from how you describe they react in your power device they're used, harvested from power pack re wrapped or fake.

LG HG2 are good 20a CDR batteries & should not react like yours did unless you are over stressing them or they're not what they appear to be.

The best way to avoid sub standard batteries is to only buy from trusted reliable vendors/ dealers.

The only way to tell for certain after you receive them is by testing which will at least reduce their useful life if not render them useless or by sending them off for chemical source testing which will render them useless.

The HG2s I bought from reputable sellers (RTD and IMR) also have stickers with info, that cover the printing on the wrap.

Every single one of my Sammies, LG HE4s and HG2s (all from reputable vendors) has had one variation or another of that large print spec sticker over the MFGs wrap printing.

I have no idea at what stage of the supply chain it materializes, or what purpose it serves other than reduced eyestrain... but it's standard and normal.

I got tired of peeling them off after the first few. :p
