OP'S battery in 1st post looks rusty on bottom, IPVD3S did not cause that damage. Maybe he got drunk and someone battery swiped his good one, or he is not telling the truth or just trolling.
I see no rust... at all...:rolleyes::rolleyes:o_Oo_Oo_O He isn't trolling, he asked a legitimate question and got legitimate feedback.

Build a coil over an ohm or two with way too many wraps to over heat.

Then rig the button up to fire continuously.

    Place it somewhere fire proof.

In a cinder block on a concrete patio would be ideal.

You most always make a lot of sense.
Whenever I've recycled batteries I try to discharge them as much as possible by vaping with them. Never really get them to where I think they should be. Duh. So from now on I will do as you have taught me. So easy peasy that I'll give myself another duh.

But just for fun I went looking on Amazon to see if an official expensive la-ti-dah battery discharger exists for Li-On batteries. I saw many for Li-Pos but none (I probably didn't know what I was looking at) for Li-Ons. Is there a reason for that?

When I am discharging to dispose of I use and led light setup. If it won't light up an led it is pretty darn dead. Or I hook a battery sled to my RC charger and set it on discharge. It can discharge at 1 amp so no risk of pulling to much amperage and it is pretty dang dead when done.

    My thoughts...

    1) these cells still aren't made for consumers.

    2) no market for it yet.

Just look at how many people are curious here. Nearly zero.

It will be on the market eventually.

But not until curiosity is enough to at least support R&D costs.

Even if you use a hobby charger, you'll have to solder 4mm bullet connectors to an 18650 battery sled.

Soldering a 2 to 5 ohm, 12 volt resistor to a single 18650 sled would be a good idea.
