Nico, and I wasn't referring to you either, other than in my very first post on this thread. And that was just intended as a counterpoint to your post #5, as it stuck me as a bit extreme. I understand where you are coming from, and even said that originally.

It was only the heavy-handed (IMO) response to my post(s), not by you, and then questions by Moon, that caused the continuation of this discussion. I'm done with it now.

So does this mean we modders cannot post mods which use unprotected cells ?

Do we have to run it past you first ????

Are you gonna delete every mod that uses an un-protected cell ??

What about Janty products that use un-protected cells and probably others ?

Are you moderator of the whole modders forum or just the newer sub forums ??

Let's not get into the nanny state on this forum , we're all adults and tbh if you don't know what your doing then you shouldn't be modding anything, and that doesn't just go for e-cigs.

Apo, I agree with you wholeheartedly that if you don't know what you're doing, then you shouldn't be modding anything.

Unfortunately, from the numerous posts that I've read that show people's absolute ignorance on the most basic principles of electronics, it is evident that people are still going to go out and try to make these and other mods. (aka, the Shortcutters Disease)

So, while I would love to blatantly tell these people to go spend a little bit of time educating themselves on basic electrical theory and wiring, I'm not convinced that it would do any good.

Therefore, I absolutely agree that any and all safety precautions should be used and addressed here. As it has already been stated, if you choose to ignore those safety precautions, that's your individual decision. Darwin's theory of evolution will take over from there. :D

I understand this thread was deleted but I have received questions about postings regarding protected vs unprotected batteries....so I am answering here. I think this should pretty much be handled the same way any other possibly "dangerous" method is on this forum.

It might be wise to post something such as SJ did about nicotine here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/1783-read-first-2.html#post29328

This means SJ is emphatically promoting caution when using pure nicotine but he is not banning conversations about it. It is the same with using potentially dangerous substances when cleaning atomizers. I see warnings have been issued there similar to this one in regards to safety.

I think the same should apply to the battery issue. I think it's pretty clear that some (or maybe even most) modders would advocate using protected batteries but that obviously should not squelch conversation by those who do not.

So that being said, the response to AP's question: "So does this mean we modders cannot post mods which use unprotected cells ?" would be "no".

Again, Sun may want to post something similar to what SJ posted about nicotine. With that, hopefully the mod threads will not get bogged down with banter about the safety issues...and hopefully I answered those who wrote to me here.

Ok so here it is one more time. This is a tutorial thread and the OP, as well as this Forum advocates in this tutorial, as well as any other tutorial, the use of safety. In a tutorial thread, safety must be advocated . This thread is not about posting a Mod–it is about building one––There is big difference. People are free to post whatever they like when showing their Mods, but when a Member here enters the arena of tutoring and advocating building a Mod from A to Z–Safety is number one.

As was stated previously, we can only advocate safety such as the employment of protected batteries, kill switches, proper wiring and amperage, etc. That is what the OP wanted to advocate in this tutorial thread and, although this Forum can and will not be responsible for anyone trying to build this or any other Mod, this Forum can and does stand behind advocating in the name of safety.

This Forum will not be held responsible for any injuries or damage that may arise out people trying to build their own Mods. There are inherent risks associated with the use of wiring and Lithium Ion Batteries and anyone attempting to build their own Mod does so at their own risk.

Again we hold to the position, as the original OP stated here, that the use of Protected Lithium Ion Batteries are, among the many other considerations when building a Mod, paramount as they employ a circuit that should terminate current in the event of a short. —Sun
