The patch made my skin blister.
The gum only made my jaw sore.
The lozenges made me sick to my stomach.
If I hadn't stopped using Chantix, I think I would have eventually sucked a gun barrel.

To be blunt: if any of the so called preferred methods had worked for me, I wouldn't be spending good money on e-cigs, and I wouldn't be on this forum right now.

The patch gave me a rash, and I still craved cigarettes horribly. That lasted one day.
The gum is intended for slow easy occasional bites/chews... and I couldn't relax enough to achieve nice and easy and would go through more than my recommended share and still light up within an hour.
The drug I tried was Paxil, and although it relaxed me tremendously, I didn't care if I quit or not, and of course, I chose "not".
The Hypnotist left me with all the symptoms a smoker feels, but I didn't quit smoking. (before the hypnosis, I was symptom free except for the occasional couph).
The Seventh Day Adventist stop smoking classes, (my first ever attempt to quit) were gross and filled me with awareness, and I literally tried to stop smoking after their presentation. I remained a smoker, however, I discovered that cigs go better with a glass of OJ. (just the opposite effect they had in mind for me).

vaping, on the other hand, worked miracles. I went down from 2 PAD to only 4 cigs a day the first few days, and down to zero within a week. I am still to this day (one year later!!) thrilled and overjoyed by this amazing product.

I have tried the patch, the gum and the lozenge.
The patch worked as long as I wore it. Soon as it started to wean me from the Nicotine I went back to smoking. The lozenges were a total failure since they did nothing for the 'habit' and they lasted me a matter of days. Finally the gum was the worst of the three for a multitude of reasons. It helped me to stay away from cigarettes for 10yrs ... 10 years of gum addiction that cost a minor fortune. Then when I went through a very stressful period of my life I started to smoke between gum chewing and I had worked myself into 110 pieces of gum per week plus a half a pack of cigs per day. Serious addicition.
I have succeeded in cold turkey quitting 5 times but that was with the help of mother nature. Each time I became pregnant, within the first two to three weeks the smell of a cigarette made me nauseous and if I didn't get fresh air I would literally vomit from the mere smell of it. I stayed away from cigarettes as long as I was breast feeding, again the smell made me naseous. But by the time all my children had turned 3 years of age I was back to sneaking outside to get a smoke or loading up on Nicorette gum and chewing it constantly, sometimes until I was plagued with a Nicotine headache.
I tried an ecig and though the first one was also a failure because the flavors were horrible; I could see the potential. I bought an Inferno and was smoke free in 3 days. Now I have a REO and could not imagine going back to a cigarette. The taste of the juice, the satisfaction of the habit, the entire experience is amazing. I haven't touched the gum but once in a 9hr period that I was unable to vape I had 1 piece of 2mg gum to tide me over. I know that with a little effort I can now quit completely but I'm not at the point that I want to quit using an ecig.
Since quitting in November I have craved a cigarette once during some severely stressful times, but a little menthol added to my daily ejuice flavor and I was fine.
I believe that finding the right flavor and the right strength of juice is paramount to being able to put down the cigarettes for good. That and an attitude that this device is simply being used to cut back, which does away with the stress of trying to quit completely from the very start. It has helped two others I have introduced to ecigs and both have quit completely without ever expecting it to happen. They save lives and improve quality of health and life in general.
I chose "none worked"... because technically they didn't work at all either 'as directed' or 'long term'.
