At 20-30 watts on a .5 coil, you are almost certainly a direct lung vaper. Give 6 a try. You can go up if it isn't enough.
Having had some management experience I've found ways to motivate FT and recently 3aVape to move a bit quicker. I wait a few days and if I don't see movement (and the item is in stock) I mention that one of the convenient things about PayPal is the dispute system.
Have no intention of using it, but you'd be amazed how it seems to speed up "stuck" shipping.
Back to the topic, I'd recommend 6mg as well.

You should be fine at 6mg and can always up it if needed. My cousin smoked half a pack a day and I had to start her at 8mg on a Pico kit with .3 ohm coil as 6mg wasn't quite enough, I'm mixing her new batch at 6mg though. You can still pick up Pico kits for under $30 plus battery and charge thru the USB until you get a charger.
I started out on the Smok Stick AIO which only comes with .2something coils and moved up to the Smok Stick V8 kit, which also does best with sub ohm coils.
Managed to go straight from a pack and a half/2 pack a day habit to vaping with 6mg juice with no dual use.
Had a bad night of cravings, but that was when I was using a coil made for a regulated mod instead of the V8 stick. (Its wattage changes as the battery drains.)
So 6mg should be pretty good. Maybe a little less.

Well, I think 6 would be a reasonable starting point especially if you prefer chain vaping, but I'm imagining that you might not need to use it all the time/for long. I like the idea of a step down to 4.5, but that's just me, you may find you get to 3 m.g. fairly quickly. Welcome to ECF and I'm glad you are resuming vaping, sorry to hear about your breakup.

Might want to make sure that the site who selling the gear can be contacted by phone. I would call first and talk about what happens if the device is DOA? Does the device come with a factory and vendor warranty, how long? Who pays for returns etc.

6mg on a 0.5 ohm coil between 25-35w got me to quit smoking, 1+ PAD for 25 years. After fiddling with things for awhile I ended up settling in at around 1 ohm and 15w but 6mg is still my happy place.
actually FT is fast on getting the order out if its in stock... its the delay in Customs ( usa) that is the hold up... they will hold stuff for 1-2 weeks before releasing it ...
I rate 6mg for <30w vapers and 12mg for <15w vapers.
3mg is not much i.m.o but if you chain vape, then... maybe. Personally, I don't like the super-low stuff - not enough 'hit'.
