did you all see the examples of the pictures they're wanting to use beginning in 2012?

They're right below the article. Did you want to make a comment about them?

I've seen a lot scarier pictures on packs in Canada than these. Maybe the next group out of the 36 will be scary.

Good one 5cardstud. The FDA is about as useless as they come anymore. What a joke. What I don't get is why isn't the American Lung Association endorsing e cigs? $$?

You can pull their financials from their website I think Jupiter, most non-profits post them. IIRC one of their biggest corporate contributers is Pfizer aka Nicorette.

And THERE is your answer folks. To all of the "Why don't they...." type of questions. "Hidden" money motivation, and influence. It's not always obvious, but it is always there. Just follow the money.....

I heard this on the radio today. If they are going to use that rationale for tobacco then why not use "death" pictures for every vice in America.... Why not show DUI crash victims on every bottle of Vodka? Obesity is more of an epedemic than smoking is in this country; costs society more... why not put amputated limb pics and Type 2 Diabetes warnings in front of every fast food place in America?

Geez, it's amazing how patronizing our culture has become. It's not like smokers haven't gotten the memo a long time ago it is bad.

Speaking of obesity, according to this analysis, obesity causes many more chronic conditions than smoking and causes higher health care costs.

That study has been out for eight years and these companies and government agencies still have not reacted. Based on these results, these hospitals, government agencies and other companies that are attempting to improve the health of their employees and seriously reduce the overall health insurance impact on their bottom line need to alter their hiring practices and sunset some previously allowed habits of current employees.

They could allow current employees until 2012 to meet their new hiring practices as now being defined. 1. No tobacco/nicotine use tested pre-hiring and on a monthly schedule. 2. No one, based on the BMI chart, is eligible for employment in the classification termed obese. Again, BMI would be tested each month along with continine testing. The third failure of either test would be subject to immediate termination. 3. Complete medical records would need to be provided by any applicant over the age of thirty. Medical history, if deemed excessive, would result in denial for employment. All current employees over 30 would be reviewed on an annual basis to determine cost effectiveness of allowing continuation of employment.

The one bright side of these new policies is that heavy drinkers that don't fit into any of the above categories would be encouraged. They do have the lowest requirements for medical services and they actually reduce the cost of medication. That self medication with fine scotch really works.
