Irma folks..... Help is on the way! I'm sitting in the FEMA staging area at Robertson AFB in Schertz, TX awaiting my trailer full of relief supplies for me to take to another AFB in Selma, AL. where I assume the military will take over for final delivery.

A gazillion trucks and drivers here chomping at the bit to get the needed relief moving your way! Hang tight!

Your awesome!

Wow! It's been a long time since I've been seen poles snapped like that. Please be careful out driving around. Carjacking may increase. A guy here in our little town got held up for his last 50.00.

Good morning, the Splat household rates as A.We never lost power, still no internet and I'm very reluctant to bother anyone for something so minor. To many people have huge problems, I gladly put up with whining grand children do them good to get away from electronics for a while. We have a mountain of fallen tree debris on the curb.We lost one limb in the front, those darn grand oaks I was so worried about took a real hit.Glad to say the whole neighborhood came together and everybody pitched in to clean up. I'm so relieved to see people checking in unharmed.

Whatburger stayed open 24/7 thru the whole thing. 1st responders & known helpers got fed for free. They were filling thermoses with coffee & were a huge boost in keeping everyone moving. Every place with gass stayed open to keep trucks, atvs, generators, j boats moving. They kept going until they ran out or lost power.

I'm relieved to here all of you fin people faired well in the storm. So grateful the human toll was not to great, lord knows it could have been a lot worse. My brother & his wife are in Naples. They are both State employees & had to stay & work the shelters. All is God with them as well. Their house only suffered minor damage. My parents live in Ft Myers in a retirement community. They stayed as well, because they couldn't decide whether to leave or not until Friday. Friday morning they texted me that they were going to leave. I had been watching the reports & suggested to them that by that point it was too late. They would be stuck in traffic & find the gas stations empty. They checked things out on the net & agreed. Their neighbors condo had storm shutters & the went over there & rode it out. They & all who stayed at their complex are fine with minimal damage to the buildings.

Thx for your thoughts. Sometimes the devil you know is best.

Good luck. :)

Well, electric came on at 11:15 last night after they said it would be a week to 2 weeks before it's turned on. Still no cable or internet but that isn't absolutely needed. I'm just glad the fridge full of stuff doesn't need to be tossed to the curb. The deep freezer full of venison n hog killed last year was all still frozen thank goodness.

@kross8 I would put myself as a B if it said "damage" instead of "repairs" because our structures are fine but the downed and damaged trees will easily cost us $3000 to have removed. I know that's not much in the grand scheme of things but it's a chunk of money for us.

And thank you again so much for putting all this together.

This was my first hurricane…not a fan :grr:

If this was your first, it was a hell of a first. This storm is going in the record books for multiple reasons like largest storm, highest winds, most damage and the name Irma is going to be retired and never used again.

The 3 storms back to back in '04 was bad but Irma was A LOT worse.

Congratz B on makin it. This one broke the mold on many levels. Relieved that it didn't come right up the middle of the state as a CAT4 or more. Then we might have seen the more comprehensive and substantial damage of Harvey and loss of life. We have much to be thankful for. Yes, I am pleased they are retiring the name Irma. But we certainly shouldn't forget it.

Good luck. :)

Harvey and Irma was a 1-2 punch.

Harvey hit Texas abd wrecking the gas refineries in Texas, then here comes Irma and gas is in short supply and people cant get out of the way of Irma.

I agree big wet storms can be as damaging and hazardous as tight organized hurricanes. I'm not dismissing the losses or pain. But if this is the worst that folks come to believe may happen, we haven't learned a thing. And that IS dangerous.

Good luck. :)

I'm glad your okay! Very very happy to hear the good news..

On the phone situation, heard some providers are offering free service to non customers in Florida.. not sure of the details but if your needing phone maybe someone can tell you who all is offering service to non customers.. someone is but unfortunately I can't remember who...

:) God Bless you.
Thanks, Mrs Opi. I'm glad you're Ok also.. :)
Regarding the phone, the cell service came back as soon as my neighborhood and neighborhood cell tower's electricity came back on...so did the VOIP.
(BTW, there are still a great many parts of Miami w/o power. FPL recently "hardened" my neighborhood
(replaced the old wood poles with concrete) because there are two hospitals on the supply line.
They're returning power to police, emergency personnel and hospitals first.

I think you may be referring to Comcast's offer of free WIFI hotspots to non customers
but there aren't as many as you may think... as I'm sure @Robin01 would corroborate.

G*d Bless you too.
