So, I'm *really* having a hard time just wrapping my head around all of the aftermath of Irma.
Well, not just Irma. Harvey, Irma, and now Maria.
It's really overwhelming.
I guess when destruction of this scale happens, you can only look at getting through each day, maybe even sometimes just the next hour.

Please know, I'm keeping you all in prayer.
For me, living in IL, I'm on the outside looking in....for all of you, you're living it.

The first video is where my nephew lives. He's an eco-tour guide Oct. thru May, on Chokoloskee Island, then a charter fishing guide May through Sept. at a fly in fishing lodge in Ketchikan, AK.
He'll be flying home this coming Monday.

He's not alone, this scene is no doubt the same *all* over a lot of coastal FL, Texas, some areas of La., and much of The Caribbean. :(
His spirits are good though, he says it's just stuff, that no air conditioning will suck (lol's), but that it's all part of living on the coast, and that the good *still* outweighs the bad. :nun:

These were just filmed this week....

I like your report, Lori... but not what Irma did. Truly a bummer. My best to your nephew.
This too shall pass.

    Thank you.
Like MacTechVpr said, he's been a Floridian his whole adult life, (he's 48), S. Georgia before that, so yes, resilient.

But yes, THIS too shall pass. That's for sure. :)

Oh my goodness, you flatter me Lori. :D
Well I've never been to Spain… but I've ived a lot of places in and out of US, all over the Eastern Seabord, Central FL and many long vacations in S FL before permanently relocating here from NJ/NY many decades ago. Of these I relished overlooking Central Park as much as the trails of the Tennessee Smokies…I realized the FL of my small town American childhood really was paradise…but the place that called to me and so I've called home for most of my life is S Fl. My soul is most at peace near the sea. And I am proud to be a Floridian.

    Good luck. :)

Déjà vu. We're fixing our dunes. Again.

    IuBXbuoh.jpg

The double-dune thing we did in front of our house held where there was a big enough gap between the dune ridges and saved much of our front yard this time.

    S4DODC7h.jpg

But it failed on the north end of the lot where there wasn't as much space between the front and back dunes, probably exacerbated by the fact that my neighbor directly to the north didn't do anything at all, so that side is all sanded in, just like it was after Matthew.

Yes, this is very much a first-world problem. I'm not complaining. Well, except at some of the neighbors who once again aren't doing anything to hold the ocean back.

When you find the place that truly feels like home, I think you really know it.
I've heard many times that "old" Florida was really special.

Finally got power back Tuesday night and man is A/C nice! Most of my damage was to trees except for one that decided to come inside... poked through the roof and down through the ceiling - a lot of water made it in, but it could have been a lot worse. The tree may have actually kept the roof on.

Good luck to everyone else whose trying to recover!

Nah, place is still here. No damage inside this time. Last year was much worse.
    Hurricane Matthew
I was following the Matthew thread, so yes, very thankful you didn't have what you had last time.

Wow @Teach, scary!! Thank goodness the roof didn't go!! :nun:
