Hi, i am new to this forum and want to congratulate you all on fighting the fight and spreading the word!

I have been a pack a day man (at least ..heh) for 30 plus years and most definitely an nicotine addict. Obviously over that period of time i tried quite a few times to quit and on two occasions i actually did for over a year (cold turkey...gee, thats really hard as you all know so well).

But heres the thing.....i started up again..even after all that time the cravings were still with me and just one moment of weakness ( it was a wedding and demon drink was involved..grin, you know how it goes..och okay then just the one...mmm that was great, gimme another..hic..well i cant bum of you all night so i'll just buy one pack....you know the rest).

Crushed!! Felt so weak, such a fool giving in after that period of time, the dissapointment of family and friends etc. Thats when i truly realised that i had an addiction.
Tried a few times again to quit, (i havent met a smoker yet that really, deep down doesent want to be free of the cancer stick) using all the usual prescribed methods whether it be the latest pill, patch, gum, inhaler, electric shock therapy...lol..not really, i made that last one up though was considering it at one point..heh.

Needless to say, i failed miserably as do 95% of people that try those methods.

So, there i was putting it off and dodging bullets. 3 weeks ago i came down with Bronchitis ( again) but man, this time it was REALLY viscious, coughing up a lung so hard that i was nearly passing out..no kidding,it affected my vision and my whole body was tingling, thought i was gonna pass out. So, i'm sitting up in bed hackin and coughin(no way could i lie down) thinking to myself, buddy, your coughing soo hard that your are gonna have an anurism and a stroke.

After the visit to the doctor for the antibiotics, check up for pneumonia and yet another clear chest xray(thank god) i made up my mind right there and then....I HAVE TO QUIT!

As soon as i got home i googled for the latest anti smoking fad thinking here we go again and eventually i found this forum.

It was a revelation!! What??!! A device that i can have my nicotine fix safely?! It delivers like a real cigarette?!! Man!! Was i excited..an answer to my prayers...i knew i could really quit with this wonderful alternative!!

I mail ordered right away..settled for a V4life 8081 for now and went into the mall next day(aye even knowing what a rip off they are) and bought a 5082 just to keep me going until the good stuff arrived.

Suffice to say although i have only been vaping for about a week but have not had an anolog for coming up for three weeks now(love that term..analog..lol) and i KNOW i'll never smoke another.

Still trolling the forums and learning, this is a wonderful site btw and awaiting my first batch of liquids...excited!

Thank you all so much and keep fighting for the right to choose!
This is one life that has been saved thanks to vaping.
God bless ya all.

DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS!
awesome! so glad you put down the analogs. i relapsed back to analogs in the past year but am back strictly vaping and do no ever want to smoke an analog again. only reason i relapsed to analogs is because i ended up with a boneyard of dead atomizers and went out to get my nic fix with analogs, and never ended up ordering new attys.
there is really no reason to smoke analogs, with ecigs here. they serve the purpose of physiological need for nicotine and the psychological need for the hand to mouth action. plus they taste better!

What a great post! Welcome! Like you, I felt like a failure every time I gave in, and felt shame around family and friends when they would give me that *look* when they saw me once again smoking. I came here and for the first time in my life felt understood in my inability to break the cigarette habit. The thing that my friends and family didn't seem to understand was that while they were happy with my abstinence, I, on the other hand, was miserable.

I knew the first time I tried an e-cigarette that my life had changed. That was over 7 months ago. I can actually sit here and honestly say that I don't want a cigarette, I never, ever thought I'd be able to say that.

I know it did mine....if not saved, a complete turn-around from the brink!
Stopped coughing, stopped heavy choking on every puff, which I had no control over anymore....nothing quite as frightening as not being able to breath. Then, I stopped the tar and the CO2, and the smell, and the carcinogens, while cutting way down on nicotine as well.
Pretty good day, the day I started e-cigs!
Welcome!! Best of luck to you

Congratulations! I can't tell you how many times I've turned to my husband and said "This is just amazing. I can't believe it."

Also a bonus, I can turn to him and say that on the couch, in our house (we didn't smoke in the house) while we watch a baseball game on tv. The downside is that we have a dvr, and our "smoke breaks" were a way to build up "skip time" on tv so we could skip the commercials. I'm fond of saying that in life, there are always tradeoffs. This isn't a bad one as far as tradeoffs go. ;)
