I was hoping it would, but my spanking new computer already got a Blue Screen of Death error!! (I was going to post a pic of the BSOD, but can't seem to get it to upload, probably the cheap OS's fault)About a couple hours into reading through the forums Saturday night the damn thing just crashed and all I could get when I tried to reboot it was the BSOD. I spent all day Sunday uninstalling the Windows 7 copy I installed and reinstalling the XP clone it came with. SO far no more blue screens, so I'm hoping I just had a bad copy, and will pay the money to DL an authentic copy next time. That's pretty typical for me and computers, actually. I just have more of them right now, so more of them to fail. ;) I've always had horrible, horrible experiences with my computers crashing well before you would expect. That's why I joke about having bad computer karma.

buy a (real with a real license) MAC… heheh yea, yea, all you PC fan boys and girls can bash on me, but in the long run you will have fewer issues with the system. My wife (and I don’t have a problem with you telling her I said this as I have told her myself) was a PC killer, she kept crashing her PC then mine. I got tired of rebuilding her system and got her a MAC. It’s been over a year and no crashes / problems. I would have normally had to rebuild and restore all of her work at least twice by this point. Well worth the premium for less head ache on my part.

Corrected – Thank you cryx I don’t need to get stoned for blasphemy… I just program phone systems (Red Hat for those - That one I do know) what do I know about OS(s) other then the MAC has not crashed while the PCs in the house break regularly while keeping them up to date (including anti-virus software).

OH, I hear that! The best, most trouble free computer I ever had was the company computer I got from my previous employer. A 17-inch Macbook Pro. Never had one single error. Never froze up, never crashed. I tell you, giving back that computer was the hardest part of leaving that job. It was like giving away a baby! :(

I'm in the difficult position of loving macs but hating apple! Why can't I get open source freedom, with mac reliability and design?

Amen to that. I've had Macs since they first came out (yes I am that old). I was so amused when Windows copied them (Trash became Recycle Bin, etc.). But I finally had to cave in because everyone wrote programs for Windows then sort of slapped together a Mac version, which didn't always work as well. But now I have both... do what I can on my MacBook Pro, and the rest on the Dell.

A MacBook is something I've always wanted, but we never willing to invest in. They want a lot of money for them, for the specs. I build PCs, so spending that much on what I know isn't worth what they're asking...I just cant do it.

Agreed. Could get 2 laptops for the price of their 1. I just like the operating system, how easy/integrated they make things. I was fine for several years with just the PCs, but when I saw the MacBook Air it stirred up my Mac-lust again. But in the end the MacBook Pro was a more practical choice for me.

Lol – You must have gotten stuck with like a purple iMac. I hated the way the originals looked. It is hard to shell out the premium for a MAC that is for sure. I wound up getting my wife a 27” IMac. Seemed to be the best bang for the buck when it came to the MAC with the exception of the MAC Mini. I would love to get a MacBook Air but a friend laughed and said Apple just created the first disposable laptop because of the SSD they used. He said it would work like a champ but start dying off at 2 years if I did a lot of writing / deleting of things on the drive because Flash memory only has so many write cycles before it is not usable. Kind of like Carts, you can only use them for so long. The main difference is that Carts are cheap compared to the longer lasting Atty, and the MacBook Air is in no sense of the word cheap.

My issue with it was the lack of ports and no CD/DVD drive. Which I know is part of what makes it so light & thin, but those are something I need more than I needed portability. And saved like $300 by not going with the Air.

Well, you can laugh at your friend. :) He's right about flash's write durability, but today's SSD drives will last at least 5-10 years for most people. You'll hit the low end of the scale if you write 20GB+ every day to your drive -- if you have to wonder if you do, you definitely don't come anywhere close...
