I asked for an opinion, I got one!

Thanks for this thread. This is hopefully one that will be added to again and again.

Just had my yearly checkup about 10 days ago. My doctor was very happy I was now off the analogs and vaping. He even asked for a demonstration of my pv. As I waited in the room for some more tests, two of his nurses (one a guy, one a gal;both smokers) knocked and came into the room to look at my pv and ask some questions.

We are all at the beginning of something pretty big here...And pretty good, I think.

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but is it at all harmful to inhale vapor all day long?

kmets, that is not a stupid question. There are no stupid questions in vaping. Vaping is a new alternative to smoking. We don't know yet, but we believe it to be much safer that inhaling carbon monoxide and all the other baddies in smoke. Ha ha, a lot of us chain vaped when we first started. We had too, we were going through withdrawal. Don't worry, you will slow down a few months along your journey without even realizing it. Welcome to ECF.

hi. when my son-in-law was in the hospital they gave him an e-cig. they use to put a patch on you.
both my doctor and my nurse of twelve years love that I use the e-cig. when I first brought it to their
attention they both researched it some. I would not doubt that they have recommended it to some of their
other patience. :vapor:

Who are you referring to as "they." Are you talking about the lab ppl or the nursing staff or the doctors or ??? This interests me. Please and thank you.

True and truer! I chain vaped like a madwoman to begin with. Now, almost a year later, I pretty much just carry it around and "remember" to hit it every now and again. I do like sitting with a cup of coffee and vaping, and when I am playing on my game (WoW) I keep it close by. I went from filling my cartridge several times a day to maybe once a day now.

I never noticed the slowdown. I have had no desire to "quit", it's just seeming to happen naturally.

Thank you for taking the time to inquire about his thoughts on the subject. Do you know if he has any other patients who use PVs. Was this the first he has heard of them or took the time to look into it? I'm just curious because I am shocked on a daily basis on how many people have never even heard of an e-cig. I'm even more shocked at the amount of people who see my success with it and will not consider it as an option. They thnk it's a phase or a fad I'm going through I guess. But it's been a year and a half since I quit smoking.

I have had the same reaction from many I have tried to convert, and I am almost at a year. I usually give them the link to this forum, so they can see for themselves how it really isn't a fad.

Absolutely NOT a stupid question. It's one that we should be asking and that I am prepared for someone to ask me tomorrow. I've been going through various sources and located a study done at the University of Chicago. The research team concluded that vaporized propylene glycol, inhaled by mice over a period of months, actually reducedthe incidence of pneumonia, influenza, and other respiratory diseases. In moving on to monkeys in order to study effects of more long term exposure, specifically accumulation in the lungs, no long term ill effects were noted. The most interesting part of this study to me, and the most damning to the opposition groups who frequently proclaim that we are inhaling "antifreeze", is that this study was completed in...(drumroll please)...1942. So it has been known for almost seventy years that such exposure is safe. HOWEVER the info I have found does not address VG at all, or the components of flavoring. But, it is good to know that there has been some research done.

A very quick update for those that might be looking at this thread:
In a room of eleven current smokers, myself, and a thoracic surgeon...
twelve people took materials I had brought to share from various sources. Every single leaflet and business card I printed from the CASAA website was gone at the end of the Q&A. Every smokerexpressed interest in learning more. Even the good doctor took CASAA literature, with the intent of sharing it with some of his patients. I will post a more detailed summary when I get home from work this evening. I'm very, very happy for these folks! THANK YOU to all members that offered me encouragement. I got past my shyness about ten minutes in.

It was a really great feeling. My surgeon cheerleader introduced me, followed by my brief "I'm not here to try to get you to quit smoking, just to make you aware that a safer alternative does exist out there..." I mentioned my mom's reaction. Discussed the components of e-juice, and the fact that they appear to be safe-at the very least much safer than cigarette smoke. Shared my experience with my quit so far-started vaping, the analogs decreased on their own, and one morning, I woke to discover that I no longer wanted my morning smoke. We discussed the fact that e-juice has a wide range of nicotine levels, completely chosen by the user. I brought my 510 and did a brief (although secret to hospital HR-he he-so sneaky!) demonstration. I also brought two TV juices from Geoff's Mix-your-own-flavor special a couple of weeks back. We passed around a few drops of Orange Cream-Pineapple and Caramel-Butterscotch-Irish Cream to smell. One lady exclaimed, "THIS is what you "smoke" in that thing? Where can I get one?" and my smile was probably about a mile wide. I had prepared a handout to go with the business cards and leaflets which listed this website as an excellent resource on "where to get one" and how to use it, what to look for, etc. I gave my email addy so people could touch base if they wanted-and I've been overwhelmed with the response. Many of the group have already been on ECF researching. :)
