My dad has been smoking for most of his life and is definitely paying the price for it he has severe asthma and emphysema and to prevent further damage i wanted to ask a few questions.

1. Will e-cigs cause his asthma to trigger more often since he is taking a standard inhaler and a emergency inhaler(He uses the e inhaler a lot) also when he tried one of my e-cigs he nearly coughed up a lung.(He was vaping a couple pink spot juices honey tobacco and juicy vapors ecto plasma no dye)

2. If it is a good idea for him to make the switch like me what would be a good juice, PG/VG ratio and Nic strength to start him off on voltages carto's etc...

Thanks for any help you can offer also he doesn't like menthol and rolls his own filtered cigs . He also is about a 2 pack a day smoker.

I hope i gave enough info

If he even put it up to his lips is a good sign. A lot of label warnings suggest not for use by asthmatics, but what about cigarettes? My best suggestion would be to keep him away from PG until his breathing improves. I am sensitive to PG, the most I can handle is 20 percent and I break out. Reaseach online about drug interactions with PG or VG.

Im not too sure about the Asthma issue but i can say that anything im sure would be better than traditional tobacco. Nicotine is said to be no more harmful than that of caffiene <--ok i cant figure out how to spell that not gonna lie. So i would say that as long as he has no type of heart condition it should be ok as there are NO negative side effects of water vapor pg or vg that i have ever seen. For starters I would say that since he rolls his own, there will be some considerations to take into account to KEEP him off the analogs.

1) Make sure he will be vaping something that has a really good throat hit so he knows/feels there is something there (18mg) juice is a good start.

2) Good vapor production for visual effect is always a nice plus as well and this can be achieved a number of ways
-A good Vg ratio in the juice (40/60, 50/50)
-Low Res Atomizer/Cartomizer if on a unregulated device (I.E. straight 3.7v vaping device)
-And of course the higher the Mg of Nicotine in the juice the better the throat-hit

Everything else is pretty much subjective, but if he is needing his inhaler all the time, i would consult with his general practitioner about this before taking my advice or anyone else for that matter. This could be a serious issue.

Hell I'd go even further... get some 100% VG... it's much smoother. Also, pay attention to the wattage, do the ohms law math maybe 7 watts... it'll keep the heat down.

As for how it will effect his asthma...

The cigarettes are horrible for asthma, I'm sure you know that... also you know cigarettes will KILL him.

Could vaping actually be any worse?

I mean his inhalers likely already use PG as a carrier for the medication

When I first used an pg 18 mg e juice the throat hit is very strong and becomes more subtle the more I vape. Even a friend that smokes unfiltered coughed the first time he used my e-cig. How is your father inhaling? Holding the vapor in your mouth then inhaling lessens the TH. He doesn't even have to inhale at all to absorb the nicotine, more is absorbed threw the mouth and nose. As to what voltage just start low and go from there.

Coughing is common with new vapors. Our bodies need to adjust to the vapor, just as they did to cigarette smoke (how we forget about that!). Advise that the coughing will go away after a week or so of use. Have him drink plenty of water as he vapes, as this will keep the mouth and throat moistened to prevent irritation from the warm vapor.

It is also not necessary to inhale vapor to absorb the nicotine. Most is absorbed in the mouth and throat, anyway. So inhaling as if one is sucking on a straw for a big mouthful of vapor is all that is needed. Inhale as desired, or exhale through the mouth and nose to allow the nose to assist the damaged taste buds to "taste" the flavored vapor. More shallow puffs would be advised until the coughing from the vapor decreases.

I might also recommend a higher resistance heating coil in the delivery device for a "cooler" vape, which I still prefer to this day. Something in the 2.0-2.5 ohm range, and possibly a single coil as opposed to dual coils.

I just got a friend of my sister-in-law to begin vaping. She is in her 40's I believe, has COPD and asthma, already had open heart surgery, and smoked 2 packs per day. I had showed her my setups during Thanksgiving holiday, and she decided she liked the Provari. When I saw her again over Christmas holiday, she already had bought a Provari and had cut down to something like a half pack a day. I gave her one of my unused clearomizer tanks (vivi nova clone) and filled it with one of my juices. She had only been dripping on an atty.

I'm not sure if a difference in pg/vg ratios would make a difference with your father's medical issues. As someone said, pg is used in most asthma inhalers. But more people are sensitive to PG than VG. Should you decide you need a couple of quality 100%vg ejuice vendors, check out the following. Both offer sampler packs, and the option of different pg/vg ratios, in addition to being 100% organic.
