Excellent mod Scotty.....

Been using this method for a day... very impressed. :thumb:

Thanks!

This method should be stickied!

...................................................................................................

I'll try your spring trick with a piece of blue foam next.

I used to only drip, but I think the days of "only dripping" are over now.

The ease of the draw, and the amount of vapor I get compared to dripping, is just short of amazing!

I had been contemplating on purchasing some e-dobits. No need to now!

"I'll try cutting a spring 1/2 - 3/4 the length of cartridge. Place the spring, length-wise into the cartridge. Then apply a single layer or two of blue foam pad on top. That would keep "slight" pressure contact with the atomizer wick to the pad. Perhaps this would work like an automatic e-dobit?"

Just tried this method also. Seems to work pretty good. Had some trouble with flooding using one layer of padding...gonna try two layers.
Once I figure out the correct spring length I need, all should be good.
Anyone else try this?

I have only been exclusivly vaping for 14 weeks this next Tuesday, but what is wrong with cutting the spring to about 2/5ths of it's length and just dropping it in the center, and then adding a square of fish-poly, and tuck the corners? It's like a poly spring loaded polly pusher to the bridge.

After reading the posts, I tried this, but I am unsure why this was not mentioned, nor referencing any other older versions.

I didn't mosey on to any posts about cart modding until now, sorry if I am mod-ignorant... hehee

(I tried to upload, but am having trouble with uploading png and jpg files now.)

actually cutting the spring length wise was my first intention but my spring out of my clicky pen was to fat to go in the chamber cause of the lips Im sure either method would work just as good;)

thanks for the replys and pm's pepole I had no idea the mod was going to take off like it did... especially since Ive only had a e-cig for a little over one week, Im actually the biggest Newbie in here:D just remember not to knock the newbs as the more we get the more idea's you will start to see.. again thanks for all the kind words I wish I could reply to them all but in 2 1/2 days this thread is 7 pages long and Im working on a how to video now.. vape on pepole!

I've tried something similar in the past, but instead of using the string in a horizontal position, i put inside the cart material from a copper sponge.

The copper sponge is a perfect material that doesn't take much place (almost nothing) and is a perfect heating element.

Then I put the poly fiber on top of the cart as a cap, that would serve both as a retainer and as a diffuser.

But I'm still trying to improve it.

On a 510 cart, you need a thicker cap than on a 901 or 801 cart, because when it flows, it flows, and the 501 atty needs less drainage than a 901 or an 801.

It's also interesting to notice that the older the poly, the better it becomes, since the thicker it gets, thus better retention.(at least for a 501)

I really encourage anyone to try it and to improve it...I don't have much time right now to work on it, but it is worth a look.

Thanks so much Scotty! I just recently started dripping exclusively because I was fed up with VG fluids not wicking properly. But dripping doesn't last as long as I'd like ...

This is a perfect solution! I tore the house up last night, muttering like a madwoman in the quest for clicky pens. I applied your mod to 9 carts cut from just 3 springs. * I like to keep half a dozen or more flavors loaded at all times to avoid flavor burn out *

So far I've only tried this on 510 carts. I've pretty much shelved my 801's out of disgust and frustration, so I'll be trying those next as soon as I can get my hands on more springs.

Thanks again!!

Been using this at 6V for about 20 minutes and havent had to to do anything but puff, my head is swimming a bit. I am not sure if the atty's had much cooldown time. The one thing I worry about is burning up this atty, it seems to wick the liquid fast enough to keep up with 6V.

In the 801/penstyle cart, I put the spring in the narrow indentations of the cart, about 1/3 of an inch from the rim of the cart. I filled the cart with 30 drops of liquid (up just to cover the spring). I cut the top part off of a stock blank cart, and topped off the cart with that, and dripped a couple of drops onto the filler to get it wet.

I'll try this throughout the day and report back, but so far, this is working great at 6V on a 801/penstyle.

The inexpensive suppliers of springs that I found on eBay were in China so I found a website that sells 'em for 15 cents apiece.

Wood-N-Whimsies

I ordered some for replacements and to modify my 801's gathering dust. Can't wait to try this on them. If it's anything like using it on the 510 I'll be a verrrry happy camper!

Great video, Scotty! I had to look at what state you were in when I heard the crickets in the background. I'm just glad I didn't hear banjo music!

You gotta watch those springs - They're slippery little suckers!! One false move and the little bugger can escape clear across a room. But I found the little devil and made this mod for an 801. I'd pretty much begrudgingly shelved them as PITHs more than a month ago.

Result: my 801's can now be reincarnated as useful PV's with a heck of a large "drip tank" size. Wonder how long it'll take to empty this bad boy!?

Bear in mind, I'm using VG-based fluid, but it isn't leaking - yet. The draw is much lighter. No more sucking so hard your cheeks cave in. Fantastic vapor and the flavor is better than the mod on a 510. I have one ADM mod on a high bridge and one on a low bridge. The spring height seems to adjust quite nicely. I'm bridging the spring across the narrowest part of the cartidge as the OP did with the 510 cart.
