Hi all,

So I've been a vapor’er for a whole day now. Absolutely loving friggin life with the RoughStack mod. Today I decided to try cleaning my atomizer (I know, so soon but I probably have OCD LOL). At my work, I have 99.9% Isopropyl alcohol and an ultrasonic cleaner, so I decided to try that.

I first blew out all excess juice onto a paper towel. Got some out. Then I dropped the atty into a beaker of 99% iso alcohol. I let it sit for a couple mins swishing it around. I decided to take it out, blow it again with a dry nitrogen gun that I have in the lab. What I noticed was that tons more e-juice came out. It was all over the place, but was not "dissolving" per say. I suppose some e-juice isn’t alcohol soluble. So I blew out the atty again, stuck it back in the 99% IPA. Again, blew it out with dry nitrogen and still more ejuice came out, untouched by 99%!! So I then rinsed it very thoroughly in water. That got all the ejuice out, dissolving it seemingly! Following that, I put it back in the 99% IPA, and let it sit for a few mins and ran it in the ultrasonic (like a jewelry cleaner but this step is not necessary in my opinion) for 5 seconds. I then blew it out once more, with nitrogen.

I then pushed the fire button for a couple secs and let go (dry burn to remove any other moisture). Did that a couple times but didn‘t hold the fire button too long so I wouldn‘t pop the delicate atty filament - be careful if you try this). I then dropped some new ejuice onto the bridge. I took some tokes and boy oh boy...this atty has NEVER worked so well!!! Huge clean plumes of vapor, massive flavor…clean burns!

Just thought I’d share my first cleaning experience. My take away was that some ejuice is probably not alcohol soluble, rather water soluble so you “may” need to use water first to break the ejuice down (I’d suggest distilled to minimize contaminants which could cause corrosion to your delicate atty filament). This also leads me to believe that using 70% or 90% would work better since the remaining 30% and 10% respectively, is water. Then hit it with the alcohol which will clear out most remaining moisture. If possible, use some sort of air compressor source to gently blow it out. In my mind, I feel blowing it out by mouth to dry it will add moisture inside the atty. To test that theory, blow down a straw a few times and look through it. Typically you will see condensation inside the straw from your warm, moist breath. But this probably doesn’t really matter because most blow by mouth. Btw, this is probably already well known info and posted all over the place here at ECF :p

Oh and…This RoughStack mod is absolutely delightful. Just nothing to complain about. The battery has been banging hard since yesterday afternoon!! The plumes of vapor are two to three times denser than smoke from an analog. 3 drops of ejuice vapes for TONS of hits…I haven’t counted but lasts way longer than an analog would.

It's exciting when you first try this stuff and it actually works! I have been down many a road with e cigs, modding and trying all kinds of variations of things. Like a geeky mad scientist... I guess I like to tinker. hehehe! I'm glad to see you having fun with your new gadget, and the billowing plumes of vapor are soooooo satisfying. Keep having fun, it's better than hearing people complaining about this or that... :)

They are like delicate pillows of yumminess, robust and thick, yet gentle and gorgeous!! I swear...how long have I been missing out on this? I have a pack of analogs in the car...don't feel like going out there for them. This 24mg blueberry juice is just like heaven. I love blueberries! Muffins, plain, over cereal...and now vapor - giant clouds of blueberry vapor...ahhhhhhhh. Someone pinch me!

that much action after one day of vaping? thats very funny :D

this is more than i do to my 2 month old attis. that you should use a water rinse ( sometimes only that is sufficent) is very old news and is mentioned in some e-cig instruction booklets.
after only one day i wouldn't even blow my attis out.
maybe i shouldn't say that, but mmy oldest working atti will have his 1. birthday in a few weeks.
blow out, water rinse, dry, dry burn, reprime every couple of weeks.... and yes i gave him a name already :D

Happy to hear your success...I'll have to object a little to the long process you went through :) I simply don't want to have to dedicate this type of time and attention.

I am hoping that simply a hot tap water rinse for the attys will flush the attys followed by air drying or even using a hair dryer. A careful dry burn might help but the LR attys are so easy to pop (I've done it twice now) and drain your battery fast.

When I was young, I waxed my car once a week and did the detail thing, too. Then I found out that just because a cloth will slide off the hood on it's own doesn't make it go any faster.

Atty cleaning is a religion to some ECF members. I might clean my atty once a month by rinsing it out in the sink under hot water for a couple of minutes, then blowing the excess out. A couple of short dry burns, a couple of drops of juice, and I'm back in the cloud business.

I suspect that you are correct about the 91% IPA.... That's what I mostly use, and it does clean quickly and works just fine. The IPA evaporates and takes the water with it, so it's easy. Kind of a dual solvent. 99% may very well be too much.

As far as frequency, I clean em when they need to be cleaned... performance determines frequency. About every other day it seems, sometimes longer. Depends on the juice too. Just blowing them out does wonders and is even easier. Good Luck!

Glad to hear you have it worked out.

LOL me too, regarding the car washing/waxing :p Now I go 6 months between car washes instead if 1 week, 6 months between haircuts versus 2 weeks...but I'm still quite the virgin with vaping...but I think I'll find that groove soon enough! :p

I have to say...I took a piece of advice from 50 posts regarding cleaning...so by doing it for the first time, I can see that it was probably a bit much, the way I cleaned my atty.

I can say, probably the best advice I saw here, was keep those attys wet. Even if they are vaping good, physics alone says don't let a small wire get too dry and hot. Also, something I was pondering today. I have a feeling waiting to drip on your atty until it cools down a bit will help. If your atty is super hot, and you drop room temp juice onto it, I would imagine it will thermally shock your atty filament some...that has to shorten it's life...wouldn't you say?

You cleaned your atty after your first day of vaping. Wow. Are you like one of these OCD (Obsessive compulsive disorder) people that scrub the doorknob after somebody knocks?
No, of course not. Just kidding.Nevertheless, you may get by the rest of your life with one atomizer. Should pick up a spare just to be safe, but I can't imagine you ever burning one out with that level of fastidiousness.
Welcome to vaping :)
