I have a friend (older lady) that was told by her doctor to quit smoking. She just recently got out of the hospital for another round of treatment for pneumonia. When we were talking, I was telling her I ordered a pv and going to try to get off analogs myself. Now she wants to get a set. I have no clue what to recommend to her, so I'm turning to you all to help me find something for her. From all that I know about her, I know that she would have to have the 2 piece system. Her mind wanders quite a bit, so taking care of an atty might be too much for her to do. I'm willing to help teach her and her family, if it comes to that, how to refill carts, since I figured that out with my first pv. But beyond that, I'm not sure what kind to get her. The ones that are being sold around here are crap IMO. When mine shows up, I plan on taking it over to her and seeing if she could handle a manual vs an automatic. Though I think her having an automatic batt will be easier on her.

Can anyone give me any ideas what would be the best pv out there for my friend? I would refer her to come to the boards, but she isn't very computer savy and checking her e-mail is a minor victory for her.

The best 2-piece starter model is the Kr808D-1. They do come in auto or manual. Obviously I recommend manual for user control and durability, as most people do, but since cartomizers don't tend to leak as much as atties do, at least the chances of her killing the switch by flooding the battery are low.

You can buy prefilled Kr808D-1 cartos in a variety of flavors from Vapor4Life. It does get expensive, obviously, but if she had some of them around for times she didn't want to refill maybe that would help her switch. But the cartos can be easily refilled by dripping juice into the hole in the bottom of the cartomizer. I usually drip 4 drops, shake, 4 drops, shake, 4 drops, shake. Takes 10 seconds.

Kr808's also have pretty good battery life considering their size. The Kr808 is pretty much the same length as the 510, but since the cartomizer is shorter than a cart/atty together, the battery can afford to be longer while keeping the same size profile. I get 4-6 hours out of my Kr808 batteries.

You can pick up a kit for around $35, and a pack of 5 cartos for $7.

I agree with Mrs Nomad about the Kr808D-1 type cartomizer system but disagree about finer points. If her mind wanders she must not be allowed to handle nicotine. She could very easily spill it on herself and not wipe it off etc. and as you know nicotine is very poisonous even through the skin.
If she can afford it - a few of my friends (I am elderly myself) like the smokestick type plan where they pay a premium to have a lot of pre-filled cartomizers and batteries sent out and all they have to do is change the cartos and vape. If she can not afford that then a friend or relative needs to give her pre-filled cartomizers that they fill and retrieve for refilling themselves. She will probably prefer automatics. I prefer the control of manuals but on days my arthritis is acting up - the button is beyond me and most people my age prefer automatics.
Most younger people don't realize how very hard the act of filling a cartomizer or cart is to someone my age - even one who mind is still sharp. I would also suggest that if you or someone in her family mixes the e-juice they use a lot more flavoring then they themselves use. If they buy premixed just add a lot of a complimentary flavoring. Old people lose their sense of taste - especially old smokers. I mix my own -I hate doing so - I dislike the smallness of everything - I can barely see what I am doing and it is all hard to manipulate. But I was unable to buy pre-mixed e-liquid that I could get any enjoyment from the taste. the only flavors I could taste of the pre-mixed where the stronger menthol tobacco ones - and if you buy cartomizers for her instead of filling yourself - I would suggest those - all those great desert and fruit e-liquid flavors are a big disappointment when you can't taste them.

just think simple but effective... I ordered a 510 cartomizer kit for an elderly guy I know.. he doesn't have a computer so he uses the wall charger and all he has to do it pop the white cap on the cartos and add drops till it is moist. When that carto dies he'll grab another.. He just wanted tobacco flavor so 18mg USA blend and he was set.. I did get him a extra battery.. If he needs something he calls..

I'd probably recommend a battery that would last much longer than a few hours before needing to be recharged. She's not gonna want to be recharging batteries two or three times every day. I like tinman's and bbl's suggestions. The majority of people here (except those who are into the flashlight-sized mods) seem to agree that they prefer the 510 cartos and the eGo batteries. The eGo batteries can be bought individually, without having to pay the higher price for a starter kit that includes atomizers and cartridges. Cignot has individual eGo batteries and chargers. Madvapes has the 5V 510 passthrough (which I love because it runs off from an AC 2amp wall adapter, and it works all the time, as long as you have access to a wall plug) for $17 each. I think it will depend on whether she's on the go a lot or stays at home most of the time -- and the size of the battery that she would prefer. An eGo is about twice the size of a regular cigarette.

I think another reason why more people are buying eGos and similar 510 batteries is because the 510 parts are easier to find and buy than the KR808D-1 parts. I could be wrong about this, but I've seen more 510 parts at the suppliers' sites I frequent, compared to KR808D-1 parts. 510 refers to the type of threads on the batteries. KR808D-1 batteries would need adapters to work with 510 cartos and KR808D-1 cartos would need adapters to work with 510 battteries.

I ordered two KR808D-1 passthroughs from litecigusa.net, and when I received that order yesterday, they had cancelled the two passthroughs (wrote on the invoice: refunded $21.90 and no other info or email sent to me to explain why), but they sent the 3 boxes of KR808D-1 cartos I ordered. Now I'm stuck with 15 cartos I can't use because they must have no KR808D-1 passthroughs in stock.

Just call Shawn at (570) 220-9861 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. EST and he will take care of you promptly. I had a problem once with an order and it was resolved within 2 minutes on the phone.
