Just for the record, I'm not saying that the 510 is only e-cig that should be recommended. It's just the one I recommend.

It doesn't mean I'm right. Just an opinion.

You sound pretty sure of yourself about the 510 :p Your not buyist are you? xD

I love my 510 as well, but as I said I want the perfect PV for a 50 year old mother who smokes a pack of salem lights a day and just got a computer for the first time.

Well, I guess I'll add my 2 cents, since I guess I'm one of the "old folks" a mom and grandmother to boot! I smoked for over 40+ years.

I've spent a fortune on e-cigs, yes, started out with a SE. I know now that was a "BIG" mistake, but, I also quit smoking with the SE within 5 days.

Then I found this forum and started reading everything I could find (literally, hours of reading). The 510 "manual switch" would be the best place to start.

If you're going to buy pre-loaded carts, then an auto switch wouldn't be out of the realm of a good place to start. If you're thinking about your mom actually "fiddling" with the carts, then most definitely a manual switch 510.

I went from SE to a 510, now on to the mods (Protege (awesome) and my "Chuck" is in the mail, going to be a long weekend if it doesn't get here in the morning). My main reason for the mods (post ban) - easy to get the batteries to run the darn things!

Hope this helps!

I probably will be getting her the 510 ;) Mostly because the only thing i've ever had was the 510, so i'll know exactly how to talk her through it and I believe its easy enough for her to learn. She DOES want to quit, so I believe she'll take the initiative to go though a slight learning phase.

Well, I don't think that an aversion to all of the "fiddling" is an age-related matter. At least I hope not. I disliked the fiddling with e-cigs when I first started, but then so did my 30-something daughter. Fortunately, my tolerance for the fiddling increased along with my lung capacity.

With encouragement and support, the right e-cig (sorry, I'm not up on all the latest models) a reason and desire to quit, as well as a willingness to put up with some fiddling, we all have a chance to suceed--whatever our age might be.

These are marvelous devices. I'm glad your mother is excited. I'm happy for both of you.

I just ordered a starter kit for my Mom. I ordered a ton of cartridges for her first month along with additional batteries and atomizers.

We can all agree that we just want our parents to make the switch. The 401 vs. 510 vs. other models vs. mods is something we'll keep debating. Everyone has a personal preference. What got you to quit smoking isn't necessarily what you're using today.

Congrats to everyone who got their parents past the FDA report and on to e-cigs.

Man, I really want my mom to start vaping an ecig. Her health is horrible because of combustables. My dad is a 15 year non smoker and he wants her to get an e-cig and would completely fund her habit if she would switch.

I dig the 510 but im thinking I might have to push the cartomizer because she would be turned off if she has to fiddle with an ecig much. Are they basically just 401's with enclosed attys in the carts? I had a 401 and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesent like to mess with stuff.... You just have to fill them too much.

I started with a 510 and it got me to quit smoking. Still use it once in awhile, but I did get the manual Vapor King and I love it! The carts last a long time, they are refillable, and the battery life is about double what the 510 is.
Refilling carts with juice got a little tiresome for me. I'll still do it but don't have to do it all day now.
Check out the Vapor4Life group on the main page [ scroll way down till you get to the suppliers] I'm 53 and have been smoking for 38 years, this is the first time I can honestly say I am now a non-smoker :)

VaporKing (KR808D) gets my vote too. For ease of use and consistant taste. I got tired of all the dripping and dropping and cleaning, and since getting my VK I have never looked back. Screw it on and vape away. If you think she will enjoy the fiddling with the 510 (and some do, seriously, they treat it like a hobby) then go with that. If you think she needs something she can just pick up and vape easily, go with the KR808.

Different people have different needs, but whatever gets her off the cigs is ok in my book! ;)

:)I am 61 so I will state my opinion about your question.

Age has very little to do with the model your mom might like. Personality has much more to do with it.

I have always loved trying new stuff. Had my first computer when I was 40 and haven't been without one since. I jumped on the e-cigs as soon as I heard about them and love messing with DIY, buying lots of different models to see what suits me.

If your mom is impatient, I would also recommend a VK or similar model until she becomes comfortable with using it. Then she can experiment with different ones if she chooses. If she feels it's too much trouble, she might not stick with it. IMO, you know her personality better than anyone.

I don't own a VK but I have read that a lot of folks on here love them and say they are very easy to use. They offer many different flavors also. I believe Drew at NHaler offers cartomizers for these also.

Good luck with whatever you choose and I wish the best for your mom.;)

Your mom said not to say...
I think that perhaps people got too caught up in the "age" statement as it was presented. I am 44 myself not so much a young buck anymore but not exactly old either.

The issue was that generally people that have smoked for 30-40 yrs are not going to put up with the so called "hassles" of fiddling with carts. I myself don't mind it, my father wouldn't mind it, my mother that's a horse of a different color. She is not going to be happy jacking with juices, carts, fillers, juice in the mouth, atomizers crapping out, flooding, batteries, and that's not even teaching her about mods!

I see my mistake in the earlier post, I should have used "personality traits" rather than age as the barrier since all people are different. A 510 model would be a good choice for someone who won't mind the high maintenance of it, but it would be a poor choice for someone who doesn't have the patience for it. I wouldn't recommend it to someone who is a bit stubborn and hard headed about their cigarettes and always has been. Take for instance someone who could really save tons of money by rolling their own smokes, is retired and has tons of time on their hands but won't even try it because they can't be bothered with it, they want to just pull it out of the pack and light up. This type of person stands a really good chance of having a huge failure with a 510, m401, or 901 style.

We all have our favorites for sure but like I said before just blindly recommending something could not be such a good move it really depends on the persons habits and personality traits. Be aware of that when offering up a model for someone to try. I always try to mention a few different choices to everyone that ask about them. I explain the differences, put in my experience, and provide what info and help I can.

Oh and just so you know the VK that people have recommended is another cartomizer like the KR808D-1 just a different name.

In additonal to personality issues, there also physical issues, like diminished vision and arthritis. Sometimes "fiddling" is not physically possible for people.
