I've been looking at a lot of atomisers and wondering why the 510..

a. gets so much vapour
b. tastes good for 3-4 drags then tastes like burnt plastic.
c. the attys heat up SO much
d. any flavour used on a 510 atty lasts forever it seems. not in a good way. i used a coconut flavour that i hated today, and put my "super mint" flavour in, even dripped on it and topped off the cart - it tasted like a cooling (mint) coconut nastiness. i couldnt get it out. i even washed it out as much as i could (without cleaning it, which would take 24-48 hours to dry)

i SOLVED THE PROBLEM.

You know that fiberglass/polyester/etc filling under the atty? YOU DONT NEED IT. that's there to give you a little more vapour by essentially having fiberfill "under" the atty as well, or so it seems. i devised a super awesome way to get this out without ruining your atty!

(i will make a video later, i don't have any attys with the fiber stuff still in them currently)

take a paper clip, and curl out the end to make a poker. The tip of this, about 1mm down.. Bend so that it is at a 80 degree angle (slightly hooked in, like a fishing hook)
put this down underneath the coil, and "hook" as much "fiberglass" as possible. take a pair of small, needlenose pliers and pull out the "fiberglass" it will come out with ease. do this until you cannot see any more fiber in there (2-4 times should do it)
then, clean as you would normally (i use 50% rubbing alc and hot water)

i did this because i accidently pulled out some of the fill under one of my attys 2 days ago, so i just pulled it all out because it was burning. that atty just dried and it produces

MORE VAPOUR - while it seems like more liquid around the atty would = more vapour, the "fiberglass" seemed to drown the atty.. hence that *bubbly* noise you tend to get w/ the 510 sometimes.
Better taste - i've yet to experience ANY burnt or chemical taste from my 510, and flavours seems to shine through better than before!
less "retention" - if i switch carts, the old flavour isnt stuck there for half my new cart.. it goes away in 1-2 puffs. nice!
Less heat - the atty seems to take another 1-2 primer puffs than normal, but i can chain vape much longer (especially w/ no bad taste) before it begins to heat up to the point where it hurts to hold it over the atty area.
less effort needed to drag: there seems to be more air flow around the atty, and i can take lighter draws and get the same amount of vapour than before.

dripping is a bit less effective, i would imagine.. but for people using stock carts, this is awesome! i can't think of any other atty that uses a "polyfill/whatever" under the atty either.

i will make a vid once i get my webcam working (psh.. sure...) or take pics next time i do the "operation"

hope this helps anyone with the 510 harshness problem!

This has been recommended elsewhere to varying success. It's hit or miss.

I did it to one of my attys and it never produced vapor again. Others had the same experience while it worked for some. So, this, unfortunately, is not a cure. So, people shouldn't start pulling the wick out of all of their attys without fair warning.

Thanks for trying to help, though!! :)

Are we pulling the wick that the wire element is wrapped around? It gets burnt up but it needs to be there to bring the e-liquid to the wire to heat up and be vaporised I think!

Yes, those strands are there for a reason. PaulZ, if you want to do this yourself, it's fine. Just don't recommend this to others.

I'm sorry PaulZ, I should have chosen a better way to say this. I realize that I was not too considerate and I don't mean to sound like I was talking down to you. I'll try to be better in the future.

In your bushes, watching you undress
Many of us tried this when we were newer to vaping... not knowing better.

It has since been discovered that this is needed to aid in wicking properly, and in MOST cases (most, not all) it destroys the atty. I destroyed two by doing this in my 1st week of 510 vaping.

Do a search to find the correct way to reduce or eliminate the tastes you don't like (like keeping the atty moist at all times, never running a cart dry, how to blow out atty and re-prime) and you won't have any issues.

Ditto. Sometimes the cure is worse then the disease. Good regular maintenance and giving your atomizer the juice it craves is the best cure.

i have 4 attys with out the fiberglass crap... and they work great...
i have no idea why your attys died... maybe you broke the wire diigging out the filler.

I don't know why the results vary from user to user. Most have stated that this procedure had a negative effect on the atomizer. But there have been some that like you haven't reported trouble.

I personally have had the burnt taste problem. My solution was to drip on the atty and top off the cart for a couple of times and the problem went away. This issue is much worse when you run at 5 volts and higher. It became clear to me that moisture was the solution to the burnt taste problem in my case.

You shouldn't do this at all. Those fibers are there to help assist the cart wicking. The bad taste will go away with normal use.

Kevin

I agree.

A few months ago I thought I found the reason of the smell and decided to remove all the wicks out of the atty. I thought it was left there by mistake.

Took them all out, and broke 4 attys. 1 used and 3 news one. DORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8-o

I thought I was a genius.. It was the opposite.
