I carried my e-cig gear on the plane, recently. I got searched in Nashville and then a week later in Orlando on the return flight. In Orlando, one of my bottles leaked a little into the ziploc baggie I had them in so they had to call someone else over. Their computer showed up a red screen and someone else came over and put gloves on and really checked it all out.

I had already been searched before they discovered it was leaking. I thought I was done for. I explained to the TSA agent what it was. They read the labels on the bottles and let it go. He said he had finally been able to cut down to like 5 cigs per day. I had my cell right there and I showed him this website. I had it on the screen already, because I was reading while waiting to board.

He was really nice. I wonder if he showed up here. He was reasonable with common sense.

I didn't opt out of anything. I haven't flown since all the new rules, so I'm not sure what the body scan is. I went through the thing where you put your hands on your head and stand there for a while. Then they did the pat down after that. I guess I got lucky both times. I can say they were not profiling when they selected me. I really thought it was because of my e-cig gear in my carry-on.

out of the five times I've flown since the new world order, I mean new body scan thing..... I've been "randomly selected" 1 time..... that's pretty good for a non-caucasian former Marine!

sounds like you did go thru the body scan... and they saw something, so, they chose to pat you down afterward.(double f#4ed)

As far as: "I thought I was done for"...... man, I know the feeling. Talk about a "mind F$*k". You know you haven't done anything wrong(at least criminally), but, you still get that thought/anxiety.

Looks like your post is about sharing your story, Vs. asking a question... so, I have a question:

What bottle was it that leaked and caused all this? your fault or the bottle? is that why you carry in a ziploc?(because it leaks?).

I travel almost every week. I put shampoo and such in a 1 quart bag as required. But a few small bottles like nasal spray and 5 ml nic juice I never bother and have never been questioned - even on occasions where I was patted down. Apparently despite the written policy most of the time tiny bottles are not detected or they have been told to ignore them.

I put them in a ziploc because I was under the impression that all liquids had to be in one quart sized ziploc bag. It was in the Orlando airport that the leak was discovered. I had packed things very quickly and just didn't tighten the lid on one of the bottles enough. I am a middle aged, caucasian female, from the south, traveling with my 15 year-old son. I had the ziploc, my Go-Go and my Ego-T in my carry-on.

I'm just sharing the story for the travel thread.
