I have a 4nine Mod and want to SUB OHM vape with it but all my high amp batteries are flat top.

The AW 18650 IMR 2000mah battery has 10 amps CDR which you could take down to 0.5 ohms relatively safely.
I have the 2000mah you listed.. in flat top form.

AW, to the best of my knowledge, does not offer any flat top batteries. All of them are button top. If your flat top battery labels say AW then my educated guess is what you have are counterfeit AW's. Many AW batteries purchased from Amazon and Ebay are purchased in bulk from Alibaba, who is the major supplier of fake AW batteries.

"Battery counterfeiting: This is a growing problem and all APV users need to be aware of it.

This is what happens: the counterfeiters buy reject Li-ion batteries in bulk, strip the covers off, and re-cover them with labels that change them to look like popular brands. In this way they can take a cell bought for 10 cents, re-work it, and sell it as for example an AW battery with a retail price of $10. The profits are very high and this practice is growing. It means that you never really know what battery you have unless you buy from somewhere with a verified supply chain. For example, all AW batteries offered for sale on Alibaba are counterfeits, and possibly dangerous."

Just an update: I found something even better than a button adapter. It's called the ShortStop by Holocron Labs.

It prevent's hard or dead shorts between your battery and what that battery is powering. And it is reusable. This is actually a great thing to have to be extra safe when using a sub ohm build. I have one on it's way and it should work great with my Quasar clone i was having problems with.

I guess if you don't mind limiting a mechanical to ~ 5 amps that would work.

Seems buying the correct battery would be easier, IMO.

well i read that as, it will work with anything at 5 amps 'or' higher. I also read that someone else uses it for sub ohm builds and it works great for him. We shale see i suppose.

"It works by watching how much current flows through it and when it notices a large amount of current, it springs into action and slows down the flow, preventing a hard short of the battery.
ShortStop will act at approximately 5 Amperes" 'will act' as in 'springs into action'.

To me it sounds like it regulates output to approximately 5 amps, if the amps are limited the watts will be too.

Either way good luck with it.

I'll test the volt load when it comes in and find out for sure. You may be right, but i'm hopeing you are wrong for my own sake, lol. I'll let you know how it goes if you'd like. Cheers

Chipotle.
Did anything ever come of this?
Yeah, there are a few good answers in the thread. I particularly liked this one.

You need a long protruding 510 pin regardless of battery type, in order to use a 4nine. Op, but as stated above, you will need to get some new atties that have a very long 510 connection in order to use it with flat tops. A 1mm 510 is the minimum recommended, but that is still too short for flat tops, so you need something that is either 2mm or longer, or an atty with an adjustable 510.

The 4nine is a limiting mechanical for this reason ... even with the nipple tops that I use, I still only have two atties that work well with it.

Love my 4nines!

Which 4nine do you have? All of them you should make sure the center pin on your atty sits proud of the 510 connection.

There are several 4nines that are too long. All should have insulators at the top making nipple or flat fine to use with out shorting in the mod. If you have the 4nine that is made too long which I like to call a 5three (measures 82-83mm) ....that sux. With a flat top battery the switch is all janky with a long throw. You can order this to fix some of the long 4nine problems including attys with flush or pushed in positive contacts $4.44 Upgraded top cap & Magnetic switch for 4Nine Mod -. <-----also nice if you want a copper button.

I use only flat tops in mine but they are the 4nines that measure 79mm in overall length. Biggest worry of mine with low sub-ohming on 4nines ...is there isn't any kind of venting. Keep meaning to fix this by drilling some holes through the switch or something ...but haven't. Hopefully mine don't turn into a a pipe bomb before I do. =)

So I finally have my 4nine all set up. Currently running a Tobh v2.5 @ ~.8ohm in 18490 mode, though it works great with an 18650 too.

I was initially worried that the post would be TOO long, but it turned out perfect! Definitely a worthy upgrade from a protank/ego setup.

I've also got a kayfun lite v2 on the way, with a copper nano kit to top it off ;)
