I had an idea this morning.

You see, I"ve only read the bible cover to cover once. I'm wanting to do it again, but I keep putting it off, something else comes up, I"m too tired, I don't have a translation that I like......yada, yada, yada.

Would any of you guys want to start a bible study group here? We would have to commit to reading say a few chapters per week, or an entire book of the bible each week, or whatever, and then we can discuss it what we learned from our reading that week, offer different opinions and learn together.

It would really help keep me motivated to read it, I lack the motivation on my own sometimes.

What do you guys think? I have to tell you upfront tho, no way am I reading Leviticus and some of the other really boring books again.

Maybe just the NT, I don't know, what do you think???????????

Pick an epistle and we can do 10 verses per day. I speak & read Hebrew, Greek & Aramaic and I still have all of my undergrad and post-grad notes that I will be more than happy to share. Not saying that anyone/everyone must agree with the notes but they are from some of the best theological minds of our time.

Ok, I didnt know what an epistle was, so I had to look it up! LOL!

An epistle (pronounced /ɨˈpɪsəl/; Greek ἐπιστολή, epistolē, 'letter') is a writing directed or sent to a person or group of people, usually a letter and a very formal, often didactic and elegant one. The epistle genre of letter-writing was common in ancient Egypt as part of the scribal-school writing curriculum. The letters in the New Testament from Apostles to Christians are usually referred to as epistles. Those traditionally attributed to Paul are known as Pauline epistles and the others as catholic (i.e., "general") epistles.

Can we start with Matthew, Mark, Luke & John? Are those epistles?

I'm game! Acts bog me down.....oh yes, and Judges......then those pesky 'begats'.......folks just kept begating all through the Bible!!

Did everyone see The Passion of the Christ? While it was at the theater, I must have seen it 6-7 times. It was like Jesus was at the mall and I just had to be there. I'd leave, shaking my heading saying I wouldn't go back, then, the next thing you knew, I'd be in line again. :)

How much can I read? And comprehend? 2 or 3 chapters at a time? At least go a full chapter because sometimes to get the full meaning of what is written you have to read the entire chapter. A chapter at a time is good for me. How are we going to discuss it....under a new thread? Will we do it all on one day or as we go? Come on Lisa, you gave birth to this baby and we need rules!!! LOTS OF RULES!!!!!:laugh: All joking aside, I think this is a really good idea. Lets start in Revelation! No?????? I'm shocked. Romans is a good book to start on.....what say all? Ya'll just pick one and I'll show up! :)

Revelation? Dang girl, you want to start with the hard stuff! LOL! I'm thinking easy baby steps here, starting with Matthew and working our way through the whole NT.

I"m not good at setting up rules, I need input from you guys! Ok, 1 chapter or 2? I'd say that we can pick one day of the week to share thoughts and ideas from what we read the previous week. We can start a new thread, or we can use this one here. Makes no difference to me.

What day of the week works for you guys?

I suppose. I've been wanting to find something a little easier than all these scrolls anyway.

You think that is bad... my back is killing me carrying around these two stone tablets

If I may make a suggestion .. I would say start with the Book of Mark since that is the "easiest" one to read and you will most likely go through it pretty quick.. picking up topics to talk about.. and you will get a better understanding of what Jesus did

Then go with John, because many will be familiar with verses in there and you will read alot of quotes from Jesus.

That's a start.... also it might be cool to do some google searches for group study plans... this is where you might find topics and questions about the chapters you chose to read... and get the ball rolling with the weeks discussion.

and in case you are shocked... I am like an onion :D I have many layers :D

Ahh...,Lightgeoduck.........will you be joining us too????? Ok, that makes enough of us to get this party started! YEAH!!!!!

Ok, so since Southern Gent points out that we should start at Matthew and work our way forward, that's where we will start.

Now, HOW MUCH SHOULD WE READ EACH WEEK????? We have to have a schedule here! :)
