For absolutely new, like just getting gear, I'd spend $12 on another 30 ml of liquid before getting the backup battery or charger. Just at the start, figuring out what strength, and having enough of that strength, is critical.

The thing is at months two or three, you should be seeing "payback" since you aren't buying cigs. Instead of going juice-crazy, make the effort to pick up that spare battery or charger instead of yet another liquid sample. A lot of people have significant taste change over their first several months, so try to just get more of whatever liquid is "good enough", & put a few $ into the backup hardware.

After that, a base supply of the good enough liquid, plus backup hw, start trying some other liquid, especially if you are hitting the expected taste changes over time.

$20 - $25 gets you a spare batt and charger, or pt and power supply.

I could always vape liquid that was less than perfect at month three, but would have been toast without a working pv.

(then again, what do I know, I'm just an aussie shepherd :) )

I spent my weekly vape budget on a variety of juices today and I'm having a little remorse that I didn't get a backup PV instead... I was going back and forth and I guess juice is more important than a backup... I don't know, I figure if I don't like some of the juices (which is bound to happen) I can PIF or swap...
My question is this, I have two friends who will soon be vaping, should I have them get a small supply of juices first or a backup? Which do you think is more important for a newbie?

For sure have them get a back up charger (if nothing else) right away.

Yeah, I see what you are saying Mark. Maybe a 30ml from Vapor Renu (avoid all cherry flavors there, trust me!) AND a spare charger would be a good plan.

If you and your friends are close, and use similar gear, you can divide and conquer, too, early on. One reason I recommend common things is that one backup charger, one spare battery, can cover several people early on. You buy battery, friend buys charger one month, flip it the next.
If a buddy loses an xl battery, he knows I can cover it short term, until the next good sale when it gets replaced.

I just started a few weeks ago and am still trying to learn...I bought a Riva 901 and like it very well so far. Still getting the hang of things and trying a few juices hoping to find something I really like...I have no backup at this time....Thanks so much for this...just awesome...BFB

Oh, the low resistance 901 atomizer is a beautiful (and leaky) thing! :) I always flood mine, but I love the flavor and hit from it when I do manage to get it right.

I've got your entry noted. :)

It seems we are progressing to a backup juice vs. backup pv so I will throw my hat in the ring with you should absolutely , positively no matter what have a backup it depends.

It depends on which is ultimately more important to keeping you from going back to analogs if possible. In my case it happens to be juice right now. Snus and other NRT's are not available here and I have enough electronic parts on hand to probably rig something up in a pinch to function as a PV. Plus my best case scenario is 2 weeks to get any of anything down here.

On second though my advice would be to blow you budget and make sure you have plenty of whatever is needed. Although I will also add the caveat that for most it is usually easier to predict when your juice will run out than when your PV will crash and burn.

IMHO they should invest in a decent starter kit that way they get some juice and at least 1 backup battery. I PERSONALY recommend Volcano as they have a 1 year warranty on the batteries. Also with a starter kit, there's no huge investment if they find that vaping just isn't for them.

I have one ego-T, only one battery for it, so while that battery is charging I have nothing to smoke.
My battery typically lasts a full day off of a single charge so if there is anybody more deserving by all means let them be the winner. Thank you :)

Your entry is noted, thank you. :)

Make sure you check out Amazon and e-bay for batteries and chargers. I have got some great combo deals there.

Agree with this. :) (for mod batteries...and always make sure they're protected!)

One Charger, manual 510 battery and one cartomizer (prefilled) for 10$

A full backup kit for 10$.
Manual 510 Starter e-Cig Kit

not a disposable, just a mini-kit

Nice find!

OK, I'm closing this thread. We have many entries and only two prize packages. The winners will be announced this weekened.

Thanks go out to everyone who made this possible, Marcielynn especially, and to all who took the time to find some great back up kits/devices and post them here and all who gave advice. I hope this contest thread will not only greatly help the two winners, but many more vapers.

WyattDerp and moonlessnight!

I'm going to let you two figure out who gets the green or the blue...and there's also the juice, who gets the Tobacco and who gets the Menthol. Y'all work it out and let me know. I'll need both your addresses, so PM those to me.

Congratulations you two! :D

Thank you again Marcielynn and my fellow PIF mods for the prizes and special thanks to all who contributed to the thread and entered!
